PERU: TALK SHOWS TAKING PERUVIAN TV BY STORM
Spanish/Nat
Talk shows are taking Peruvian television by storm.
Over five domestic talk shows are already competing for viewers with the successful formula that has made these shows so popular in other countries.
But social groups, like the Catholic Church are concerned claiming the shows are glorifying immorality and perversion.
Hablemos Claro or Let's Talk Clearly is one of the more than five locally produced talk shows that have viewers glued to their television screens every day.
Like many talk shows in other countries, it has turned human misery into a high-ratings spectacle.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
I've had all sorts. I've had prostitutes, homosexuals, women mistreated by their children, girls who have been raped, and sometimes I make it lighter with issues as the one today, which is very relaxed, about girls who think they are beautiful.
SUPER CAPTION: Monica Chang, hostess of Hablemos claro
Intimidades or Intimacies is another of the top rated chat shows spreading throughout Peruvian television.
Hosted by actor Jaime Lertora, the show mirrors America's Jerry Springer Show well known for the almost daily outbursts of violence from the guests.
Lertora, however, claims that his show is not trying to use violence to obtain higher rates.
SOUNDBITE (Spanish)
I'm not interested in that. I have apologised to the public for what they saw and I'm not interested, but the media steps in immediately to see what's happening and the ratings go up. We could do this easily (more often).
SUPER CAPTION: Jaime Lertora, host of Intimidades
Talk shows have replaced the more traditional news programmes, sitcoms and soap operas which have been the staple of local television.
This has raised concern among social groups, such as the Catholic Church, which claims that the talks shows are glorifying immorality.
SOUNDBITE (Spanish)
The exhibition of vice, corruption, sexual perversion, intimate problems that should be solved in the privacy of the home, and instead, people who should not be showing all the corruption and perversion they carry in their lives are becoming artists and TV stars. That's a matter for concern.
SUPER CAPTION: Monsignor Luis Bambaren, Secretary of the Episcopalian Conference of Peru and Bishop of Chimbote
For the hosts and the producers of such shows, the popularity reflects the new opening up of Peruvian society.
SOUNDBITE (Spanish)
Peru has learned to talk, to comment on things. They want to talk, to solve their problems and although these programmes are not going to solve your economic problems, nor the fact that you don't have a job in many cases, they (the programmes) are going to let you get your problem out, and people talk.
SUPER CAPTION: Monica Zevallos, hostess of Entre Nos (Between Us)
Competition is tough between local talk shows to the point that they're making headlines in the daily newspapers.
And if their sudden success is anything to go by, viewers in Peru could be certain that they'll have plenty of opportunities to get their problems off their chests.

Sandboarding in Lima | Tour Sandride Experience | SANDRIDE LIMA
Looking for unique excursions in Peru? sandboarding was definitely one of your highlights¡
It`s not snow..... It`s sand
The city of Lima is a geographically desert city, offering one of the best scenarios for the practice of sandboarding. Sandride Experience is an original tour that uses a 4×4 truck to reach the most suitable dunes for professional sandboarding.
If you are in Lima, you have a day off and do not want to travel 4 hours to Huacachina, you can enjoy one of the best tours in Lima, doing professional sandboarding like in the best Ski Resort in the world. You can enjoy a day in the desert full of fun. We start with what we call “the baby dune”, here your instructor will explain the basic techniques and start your sandboarding experience.
After finishing the practice, we descend between two and three times the high dunes, where our driver will wait at the bottom of the hill so you do not have to climb back up. Our instructor will take care of the photos, ending this adventure, we return to our sandboarding shop to leave our equipment and can use the toilet services before returning to your hotel.
