Where else in the Bay Area can you buy GMO-free Heirloom vegetable, herb and flower seeds as well as a library of related books, gardening tools and gifts under one roof?
As time allows, to the left of your screen, we will show you a small sampling… the result of over 1,800 varieties of heirloom seeds as well as garlic, tools, books, and hundreds of local hand-made gifts and food items while, to the right of your screen, we’ll take you on a tour of our one-stop shop located in Petaluma, California’s Sonoma County Bank building, constructed in the 1920s, and now home to Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company's west coast location.
Our “Seed Bank” store is a beacon for gardeners, foodies, shoppers, and tourists throughout the Bay Area. Most importantly, everything we offer is pure, natural, and non-GMO!
While it’s worth repeating that we offer over 1,800 varieties of heirloom seeds, garlic, tools, books, and hundreds of local hand-made gifts and food items. We also offer hundreds of locally made items!
Meanwhile, here’s a little history…
Founder Jere Gettle always had a passion for growing things, and at age 3 he planted his first garden. Thus began his love of seeds, which eventually grew into a desire to be involved in the seed industry. So in 1998, at the age of 17, he printed the first Baker Creek Heirloom Seed catalog. The company has grown to offer one of the largest selection of heirloom varieties in the United States.
Baker Creek also carries one of the largest selections of seeds from the 19th century, including many Asian and European varieties. Our company has become a powerful tool to help promote and preserve our agricultural and culinary heritage. Our company and seeds have been featured in The New York Times, The Associated Press, Oprah Magazine, Martha Stewart, The Wall Street Journal, and many others. Gardeners can request a free color catalog. Our catalogs now distribute to over 700,000 gardeners nationally.
In 2011, our company introduced the National Heirloom Exposition right here in Sonoma County. What began as a celebration of pure food and sustainable living has become the world’s largest annual heritage food event. Thousands of people come from around the world to the Expo to celebrate traditional crops, foods, seeds, poultry, and livestock. Featuring the largest display of heirloom produce, many small gardeners and large farmers supply an abundance of fruits and vegetables for exhibiting and tasting. More than 350 related and like-minded vendors include seed companies, tool companies, accessories, food, produce, garden products, and much more.
This is the positive, productive, health-centric culture you will experience when you visit our incredible Seed Bank located at the corner of Washington & Petaluma Blvd. in the heart of the Feed Mill District. Make plans to visit us soon and feel free to call 707-773-1336 for additional information.
Hey Sonoma County! It’s time to resolve Water Supply issues in California with Gabe Griess!
Be with us at
Sonoma is the southwestern county and largest producer of California's Wine Country region, which also includes Napa, Mendocino, and Lake counties. It has 13 approved American Viticultural Areas and over 250 wineries. In 2002, Sonoma County ranked as the 32nd county in the United States in agricultural production. As early as 1920, Sonoma County was ranked as the eighth most agriculturally productive US county and a leading producer of hops, grapes, prunes, apples, and dairy and poultry products, largely due to the extent of available, fertile agricultural land in addition to the abundance of high quality irrigation water. More than 7.4 million tourists visit each year, spending more than $1 billion in 2006. Sonoma County is the home of Sonoma State University and Santa Rosa Junior College.
Gabe Griess has a history of success and innovation within governmental bureaucracy. These skills certainly transfer over to state-level leadership, as diplomacy, passion and the ability to communicate in ways that inspire and unite people is essential when dealing with our budget and the environment. Gabe is the right choice for our district.
California's water policy is about more than farmers. It's about jobs, schools, families and our environment.
Sonoma County comprises the Santa Rosa, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland, CA Combined Statistical Area. It is the northwestern county in the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area region.
For the growing California state water crises, Mr. Griess plans on seeking storage south of the Tracy pumps, improving water recycling and utilizing state of the art technologies such as solar thermal desalination.
Gabriel J. Griess is the best candidate for California 3rd District! It’s time for Gabe Griess!

Petaluma Pete & Grocery Outlet help Coast Guard Spouses
As of this evening, we are now facing day number 30 of a government shutdown that is leaving our Coast Guard serving without pay with many Coast Guard families living from paycheck to paycheck… which is impossible if there is no paycheck.
Luckily, with the approval of the United States Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association, Petaluma Grocery Outlet, in conjunction with an organization right here in Petaluma called The Coast Guard Spouses' Association Petaluma, there is now a clear path for YOU to help spouses of Coast Guard members who live, work, or train at the Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma.
Petaluma Grocery Outlet is providing a path to help funnel your 5, 10, or 20 dollar donation into Outlet gift certificates which is what our Coast Guard families need the most. Food… and the necessary items on an everyday basis to help keep a family with no paycheck going.
Look for this sign and ask your Petaluma Grocery Outlet checkout person for one of these donation coupons, circle the 5, 10, or 20 dollar number, and Grocery Outlet will turn your donation into a gift certificate to be given directly to Petaluma’s very own Coast Guard Spouses' Association Petaluma with the official approval of the United States Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association.
Remember: Living from paycheck to paycheck is impossible if there is no paycheck. Come to Petaluma Grocery Outlet, save on your groceries, and and help our Petaluma Coast Guard families while while you’re at it.
Don’t you just LOVE this town? :-)

Wildflower Seed Bank
This segment is from Horizon International's TV series One Second Before Sunrise, Program I. To save endangered wildflowers until their native habitat is assured of preservation or restoration, Dr. Harold Koopowitz, Director of the University of California Arboretum at Irvine, started the first cryogenic seed bank in North America. He has saved more than 150 species, many of which may have medicinal benefits, and established a plant preservation model for arboreta and botanical gardens. Our Food System - Community Health Connections Episode 103
All over the world, our area is hailed as a food mecca. While we may have some of the finest restaurants, wines, and produce, that is only one part of our food system. Sonoma County actually has three times as many unhealthy food outlets nearby as healthy ones and nearly 20 percent of our adult population is considered food insecure -- meaning they don't always have access to safe, nutritious foods. This episode of Community Health Connections explores our local food system, where our food comes from, where it goes, and what happens to it along the way.
