(pronounced Carrycoo). The wind upon the hill is very powerful. Jack Adams Island, Sandy Island, Mabouya Island and a few more can be seen from the hills also Paradise beach, Lauriston Point, McIntosh Point and Sister Rocks.
Both Carriacou and Petite Martinique depend on rainfall for water because there are no rivers on the Island. Houses have cistern tanks to catch water.

In the southern Village of TRIO, 5C's and Ya’axché Conservation Trust work to bring smart agriculture and thousands of cacoa seedlings to the village association to ensure sustainable development in a first of it's kind concession in a reserve. Across the Caribbean Sea, the 5C's with continued support from UKDFID, asseses and installs SWRO systems on the two smaller islands and a photovoltaic system on Carriacou.

Grenada ist ein Inselstaat der Kleinen Antillen am südlichsten Zipfel der Windward Islands („Inseln unter dem Winde) und liegt vor der Küste Venezuelas. Zum Territorium gehören auch die südlichsten Inseln der benachbarten Grenadinen, Carriacou und Petite Martinique. Grenada besteht zu weiten Teilen aus einem Höhenzug vulkanischer Bergspitzen, deren Hänge und Ausläufer wegen des tropischen Klimas und der fruchtbaren Vulkanböden dicht bewaldet sind. An den Küsten im Süden gibt es viele kleine Buchten und Häfen. Grenada ist das ganze Jahr über ein sehr gutes Reiseziel.
Die Gewürzinsel Grenada lädt zum Urlaub in der ursprünglichen Karibik ein. Bei einer Rundfahrt lassen sich die Sehenswürdigkeiten der Insel am besten erkunden. Für historisch interessierte Besucher sind die am Ufer des St. Patrick-Flusses im Dorf Mount Rich erhaltenen Schnitz- und Steinmetzarbeiten der karibischen Indios und das Wahrzeichen Carib's Leap sicher ein Erlebnis. Interessant sind auch die Nationalparks Grand Etang (120 Quadratkilometer Fläche mit Grand-Etang-See auf 530 Metern Höhe) und Levera (Küstenpark mit u.a. Seegrasflächen), das Naturzentrum La Sagesse, Lake Antoine im Krater eines erloschenen Vulkans sowie die Gewürz- und Kräutergärten in der Gegend von Lauras. Lohnenswertes Ziel sind auch die heißen Quellen am River Sallee und die 20 Wasserfälle.
Die Gewürzproduktion von Grenada kann man bei einem Besuch der Dougaldston Spice Estate Gewürzplantage oder in einer der Muskatnuss-Verarbeitungsanlagen in Gouyave und Grenville erleben. Die Rumbrennereien Dunfermline bei Grenville, River Antoine und Westerhall sind ebenso zu besichtigen wie die Grenada Sugar Factory, eine Zuckerfabrik in Woodlands bei St. George's, ebenfalls mit Rumproduktion.
In der Hauptstadt St. George's ist die Carenage -- der innere Hafen -- mit seinen georgianischen Gebäuden besonders schön. Hier ist auch der Sitz der Touristeninformation Grenadas. Historische Gebäude sind unter anderem die verschiedenen Kirchen aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, die Festungen wie Fort George (1706), das House of Parliament sowie das Finanzgebäude am Ende der Carenage. Äußerst lebendig und fröhlich geht es auf dem Markt von St. George's zu. Er ist der Hauptumschlagplatz für einheimische Produkte, Schauplatz für Paraden, politische Reden und religiöse Zeremonien. Der Veranstaltungskalender der Insel umfasst das ganze Jahr über diverse Feste und Aktivitäten -- Musikfestivals, Segelregatten und Karneval im August.
Sehenswert sind das Grenada National Museum mit einer Sammlung an Kunstgegenständen, die Geschichte und Kultur der Insel widerspiegeln, sowie die Grenada National Library (seit 1892) in einem ehemaligen Lagerhaus an der Carenage. Das Marryshaw House ist ein lokales Universitätszentrum der University of the West Indies und beherbergt ein Theater. Die Palette an Veranstaltungen auf Grenada reicht von Sportveranstaltungen, verschiedenen Musikwettbewerben, über religiöse Feste bis zum bunten, karibischen Karneval im August. Für Abendunterhaltung ist in den meisten Hotels, Bars, Livemusik-Lokalen und einigen kleineren Diskotheken gesorgt.
Grenada hat 45 weiße Sandstrände und neun Strände mit „schwarzem Lavasand. Der Strand von Grand Anse auf Grenada zählt zu den schönsten der Karibik.
Grenada ist ein Zentrum der Segler in der östlichen Karibik. Von hier aus können Sie zu den schönsten Karibiktörns starten. Die Korallenriffs und das glasklare Wasser machen die Karibikinsel zu einem Mekka für Taucher. Zu den vielen Tauchplätzen zählen beispielsweise The Hole, The Valleys of Whales und Dragon Bay. Am Whibble Reef liegt das größte Schiffswrack der Karibik -- das 180 Meter lange Kreuzfahrtschiff Bianca C. Es gibt acht Marinas bzw. Tauchbasen auf Grenada. Angeboten werden zudem Kajakfahren, Yachtcharter für längere Segeltörns und Sportfischen. Weitere Sportmöglichkeiten sind: Golf (Neun-Loch-Golfplatz des Grenada Golf & Country Clubs), Fitness-Clubs (in Hotels sowie lokale Studios), Reiten (The Horseman), Tennis (in Hotels sowie öffentliche Tennisplätze in Grand Anse und Tanteen), Mountainbiking und Wandern.

Uprising Youths U19 (Carriacou & Petit Martinique)
Carriacou based club Uprising Youths are competing in the Grenada Football Association's (GFA) Under 19 Football Tournament for the first time and have traveled to the main land Grenada.
We speak with Head Coach Shane Thomas about the team's participation along with Captain Duquan Alves and Under 15 player Timothy Stanisclaus who has been incorporated in the Under 19 structure.
Head Coach is happy to be in the tournament but will like to see more done on the sister-isle for the overall development of football.
