Walking through Rastoke, Slunj.

What to do and see in Croatia: Rastoke
A visit to Rastoke, a place alternative to Plitvice lakes and not very far from Zagreb. Definitely worth a visit and you can use it as a rest point on your way to the Adriatic sea.

SEEAM - Regional Workshop, Zagreb, Croatia, 14. 12. '17
65 managers and members of the working teams of 31 PUCs in four Western Balkans countries, participants in the ‘Integrated Infrastructure Asset Management’ met at the second regional workshop in Zagreb. The aim of the meeting was to summarize the realized effects of the first implementation phase and to present future activities.
- Over 6,500 km of water supply network provided through asset management teams is an excellent result achieved in short period of time. It expresses the interest of PUCs, their commitment to the project, as well as the support provided through the project, by the Asset Management Centres, UTVSI and Aquasan – said Oliver Nachevski, Project Manager, GIZ ORF MMS.
Such continuous, 24/7 support to PUCs renders the unique tone of the project and makes it equally interesting for all utility companies, regardless of their financial standing or available human resources.
- By inclusion of both larger and smaller water utilities, they are provided with an equal opportunity to become familiar with their own system, their network, customers and water quality, in order to deliver better services to their clients – said Aleksandar Shotic, AM Centre, UTVSI, Belgrade, Serbia.
The regional champion is PUC 'Vodovod i Kanalizacija’ from Loznica, whose working team managed to collect, enter and process the largest amount of data through its field work.
- Continuation of the second and third phase of the project is a necessity, and it will enable implementation of all data in one place and make them functional and usable. The goal is to reduce the costs and provide more quality management of water supply system that will serve future generations in a functional form, adjusted to modern trends and modern market economy - said Zorica Maksimovic, PUC ‘Vodovod i kanalizacija' – Loznica, Serbia.
Infrastructure assets are owned by the citizens, or municipalities, and they deliver such assets to be managed by the PUC. Therefore, gathered data are relevant to all stakeholders.
- Follow-up steps to be undertaken in the forthcoming period, and I see them as very important, relate to the efforts of the water utilities to include their local communities in this project, and to simply establish a relation between the local PUCs and asset owners, namely, the local communities - said Sanel Buljubashic, PUC 'Vodovod i kanalizacija’ – Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina
One of the features of the project is that it leaves ‘open door’ to include companies during the second and third phase of the implementation.
- PUC ‘Vodovod’ from Budva joined the project 10 days ago. We are a bit late, but I hope we will ‘catch up’ the work done so far, said Violeta Srzintic, PUC ‘Vodovod’, Budva, Montenegro
Certificates of gratitude were awarded to the PUCs which achieved the best results.

Waterfalls of Rastoke, Croatia
Waterfalls of Rastoke, Croatia 2015 - 10 - 22, Recorded by Josip G.
If you are travelling to Plitvice National Park on the road from Zagreb to Split, you will first come across Rastoke, the center of the municipality of Slunj. It is here that the Slunjčica river flows into the Korana river, creating dozens of waterfalls along the way. This area is sometimes called “the Small Lakes of Plitvice” but unlike its larger neighbor, this site is free to enjoy.

Rastoke or Slunj Slapovi is an area with several waterfalls in the river Korana and Slunjcice. The waterfalls are located in the town of Slunj in the region Lika Slenj – Croatia Proper, Croatia. You can miss Rastoke when driving to Slunj. Slunj is near the Plitvice Lakes (30 minute drive), which is similar but much bigger.
Rastoke is the historic center of the Croatian municipality of Slunj, known for the Slunjčica river, which flows into the river Korana at Rastoke .At Rastoke, similar natural phenomena are occurring as at the Plitvice Lakes. Rastoke is sometimes known as the Small Lakes of Plitvice, and is connected to the Plitvice Lakes by the Korana river. Rastoke is a place of autochthonous ecologic and ethnographic significance due to its symbiosis of natural and civilizational features. The town of Slunj emerged around Rastoke and the branching of the Slunjčica and Korana rivers. The watermills erected at this place largely contributed to the economic development of Slunj as the center of the region of Kordun.
