In this video we pay a quick visit to peveril castle , an 11th century ruin overlooking the village & one of englands earliest norman fortresses , a steep walk up and a couple of bench stops brought us directly to the entrance , some stunning scenery from all directions and well worth a visit if you are in the area..

The imposing ruins of Peveril Castle stand high above the pretty village of Castleton in the heart of Derbyshire's Peak District. Mentioned in the Domesday survey, Peveril Castle is one of England's earliest Norman fortresses. The keep was built by Henry II in 1176.

In the middle of the Peak District National Park, high above the town of Castleton lies Peveril Castle, a small but distinct triangular Norman castle. Known through much of the Middle Ages as Peak Castle or the Castle of the Peak, Peveril Castle was not only strategically placed but also enjoyed good hunting in the surrounding area.

Peveril Castle (also Castleton Castle or Peak Castle) is a ruined 11th-century castle overlooking the village of Castleton in the English county of Derbyshire. It was the main settlement (or caput) of the feudal barony of William Peverel, known as the Honour of Peverel, and was founded some time between the Norman Conquest of 1066 and its first recorded mention in the Domesday Survey of 1086, by Peverel, who held lands in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire as a tenant-in-chief of the king. The town became the economic centre of the barony. The castle has views across the Hope Valley and Cave Dale.

Hello lovely people. We (as in me, the boy, the man) went on a little adventure this weekend, exploring Castleton and Peveril Castle. Unfortunately it appeared that at some point on the way our 4 year old transformed into a dinosaur, but the dinosaur had lots of fun and ended up with an ice cream, so it's all good. Hope you enjoy, and I really don't mind if you laugh at my absolute DEATH climbing up that hill. Yargh.

Peak District National Park: Peveril Castle
I visit Peveril Castle in Castleton in Derbyshire and give a little information about the history of the castle and a tour of the area.
The castle dates back from the decades following the Norman invasion in 1066 and was built by William Peveril, a Norman knight. Over the years the castle has been built up, with extensive work done during the reign of King Henry II.

Národní park Peak District je nejstarším národním parkem, který se nachází uprostřed jižní části Velké Británie. V Peak District je toho opravdu hodně k vidění. My jsme tentokrát navštívili vesnici Castleton, která je známá svými jeskyněmi, historií a především Peveril Castle.
Náš den jsme zakončili procházku po stezce Pennine Way v Edale.
