This series will introduce you to northeastern Thailand, aka Isaan. I hope to show you new places to visit in Thailand and expose a less known side of Thailand, far away from the backpackers, begpackers and the tourist hustle and bustle.
In episode 1, you will discover more about Yasothon province. Yasothon is famous in Thailand for its jasmine rice and its annual rocket festival, Bung Bang Fai.

Public Park Stadtwäldchen , Yasothon
Phaya Thaen Public Park, Public Park Stadtwäldchen, Public Parc Yasothon.

Live: Celebrate the Bamboo Rocket Festival in Thailand泰国火箭节 民众迎雨季
Today is the final day of the annual Bun Bang Fai festival, or the Bamboo Rocket Festival, which ran from May 11 to May 13. Follow CGTN to witness a Buddhist merit-making ceremony and see the procession of Bang Fai floats and folk dances at Phaya Thaen Public Park. Here villagers fire homemade bamboo rockets into the sky with the belief that their prayers for abundant rain and a bountiful harvest will be answered.

Northeastern Thailand video
Northeastern Thailand video. Never been to Ubon Ratchathani Thailand? Wondering what it looks like? Here, I'm filming from the streets of the capital of the north eastern province.
Northeastern Thailand, aka Isaan, Isan, E-sarn, is having almost zero visitors from foreign countries, unlike Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, or Pattaya, for that matter. You'll meet a couple of fellow travelers, and that's about it.
Ubon, however, has got everything: food and clothes markets, museums, cafes, restaurants, simply gorgeous Buddhist temples, busy malls buzzing with shoppers, and then, all of a sudden, just around the corner, a tiny little quiet alley with a row of neat Thai style houses, and a peaceful park with a pond in the end of it.
It's a very unique Thai city you've gotta see, at least, once. I'm sure you're gonna wanna be back every time you're leaving. Time flows differently out there. This is the real Thailand. See you there!

Phra That Kong Khao Noi - ubon
Phra That Kong Khao Noi is an ancient stupa or Chedi, a structure that enshrines holy Buddhist relics. Built during the 18th-20th century in the late Ayutthaya period, the small, square brick pagoda has a distinctive spire. The middle part of the structure is ornamented with decorative doors on all four sides. A brick wall surrounds the pagoda. A sacred Buddha image is also located behind the pagoda. Legend has it that it was built by a young farmer who was repentant after murdering his mother. In a tale that aims to teach forbearance, it is said that the young farmer grew irate when a lunchbox packed by his mother seemed to have a tiny amount of rice. Furious, he killed his mother. It was only when he discovered that there was in fact so much rice he could not finish his lunch, as it was packed tightly, that he realized his folly.
The stupa is located in the rice paddies of Tambon Tatthong. It is 9 kilometers from Yasothon town. Take Highway No. 23 (Yasothon-Ubon Ratchathani Road), and turn at Km. 194. Continue for 1 more kilometer to reach the stupa.
