EGYPT: Philae Temple / Temple of Isis - Aswan
The temple complex of Philae was originally build on Philae, an island in the reservoir of the Aswan Low Dam (Lake Nasser), Egypt. Since the initial construction of the Aswan Low Dam in 1902, the area have been flooded so the temple complex was dismantled, piece by piece, and moved to the nearby Agilkia Island as part of the UNESCO Nubia Campaign project, protecting this and other complexes before the 1970 completion of the Aswan High Dam.
Although there are several temples and buildings located on Philae, the largest and the most famous is the Temple of Isis. Here, the ancient Egyptians worshiped the goddess Isis as well as Osiris and Horus (her son).
The Temples of Philae were venerated from the Pharaonic era through the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine periods with each ruler making their own additions to the stones here.

Philae (/ˈfaɪli/; Greek: Φιλαί, Arabic: فيله Egyptian Arabic: [fiːlæ], Egyptian: p3-jw-rķ' or 'pA-jw-rq; Coptic: ⲡⲓⲗⲁⲕ, ⲡⲓⲗⲁⲕⲭ[1]) is an island in the reservoir of the Aswan Low Dam, downstream of the Aswan Dam and Lake Nasser, Egypt. Philae was originally located near the expansive First Cataract of the Nile in Upper Egypt and was the site of an Egyptian temple complex. These rapids and the surrounding area have been variously flooded since the initial construction of the Aswan Low Dam in 1902. The temple complex was dismantled and moved to nearby Agilkia Island as part of the UNESCO Nubia Campaign project, protecting this and other complexes before the 1970 completion of the Aswan High Dam.

Hi, I am Eileen from Belgium, nice to meet you. I started this channel two years ago but was not updating on a regular basis. After making some videos for friends and family, I realized this is something I love to do. Philae Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Philae in Egypt.
The Temple Of Philae lies on a small island on the river Nile, just a few kilometres away from the Egyptian city of Aswan. The construction of the Aswan Dam meant that the holy island of Philae was under threat from the waters of the Nile. However, due to a major international rescue operation, its temples and numerous buildings were relocated to the island of Gelkia. The great Isis Temple Of Philae is acknowledged as one of the most well preserved Egyptian holy places dating from Ptolemaic times and some of its foundations are believed to derive from far older religious buildings. Next to the smaller Hathor Temple, fourteen magnificent columns and capitals rise majestically into the sky. The ‘Nilometer’ was reassembled on Gelkia. This device was the official measurement system for Egyptian taxes. Thus, the level of taxes was closely associated with the water level of the Nile. Egyptian life was dominated by the Nile and thus the foundation of the development of ancient Egyptian culture was due to its life-giving presence.

Philae Temple in Aswan Egypt
_____________________________
Philae temple is located in one of the most important monumental sites in Aswan “The Nubian City“. It was a rocky island that was called in Hieroglyphic “Apo” which means Ivory. It is located 12 km south of Aswan on Aglika Island, downstream of Aswan Dam and Lake Nasser. It was originally located near the expansive first Cataract of the Nile in Upper Egypt but it was relocated to nearby Agilkia Island as part of the UNESCO Nubia Campaign project. It was a sacred site as an ancient pilgrimage center for the cult of Isis. This amazing temple was reopened in 1980.

Philae Temple - Exploring the temple of Isis - Aswan Egypt temples
The Philae temple is a beautiful island complex dedicated to isis and reclaimed from the rising waters of lake nasser , this temple is current location on Agilkia Island .
Isis was a major goddess in ancient Egyptian religion whose worship spread throughout the Greco-Roman world. She was believed to help the dead enter the afterlife as she had helped Osiris, Her maternal aid was invoked in healing spells to benefit ordinary people. Originally, she played a limited role in royal rituals and temple rites, although she was more prominent in funerary practices and magical texts. She was usually portrayed in art as a human woman wearing a throne-like hieroglyph on her head.

Philae Temple Complex
The Egyptian island of Philae was the center for worship of the goddess Isis and attracted pilgrims from all over the ancient world. The original island is now completely submerged under the waters of Lake Nasser. But in a spectacular rescue operation, the great temples and monuments of Philae were pulled out of the water and re-erected on a nearby island, now renamed Philae.
Temple of Philae, Aswan, Egypt Part 1
As part of my tour of Aswan which included the high dam and the unfinished obelisk, we also visited the Temple of Philae.
Built by the Greeks to honor Isis, it has some fascinating tidbits that my guide pointed out. Such as the scratches made to the images by the Coptic Christians, the first depiction of baseball and you'll have to watch to see the rest!
Highly recommended visit.
Entrance fee is about 80LE, plus 20LE for the boat to get there and back. If you prefer to stay longer, take a private guide as the group guides will shuffle you in and out.
I had 2 hours on location and I was comfortable with that. Also bring water and snacks as just like everywhere, the prices for these items are inflated.
I apologize for spelling Philae wrong in the title card.
