Is Kamala Harris the next to go?: Democrat could be next to exit race
Speculation is mounting that Kamala Harris could be the next contender to exit the Democratic race after she fired dozens of staff members and shut offices in New Hampshire. The California Democrat, 55, is seeking to inject new life into her presidential bid, which is struggling in the polls and facing money problems as she goes all-in in Iowa.It comes as Beto O'Rourke, the former Texas congressman, announced Friday that he was ending his Democratic presidential campaign, which failed to recapture the enthusiasm and fundraising prowess of his 2018 Senate race. And there was fervent speculation on social media that Harris would be next to drop out as her campaign officials confirmed to Fox News on Friday that only a 'handful' of staff were retained in New Hampshire, the state that holds the first primary. Speculation is mounting that Kamala Harris could be the next contender to exit the Democratic race after she laid of dozens of staff members and shuts offices in New Hampshire Beto O'Rourke, the former Texas congressman, announced Friday that he was ending his Democratic presidential campaign, which failed to recapture the enthusiasm and fundraising prowess of his 2018 Senate raceThree field offices, in Keene, Nashua, and Portsmouth, were also closed and the state headquarters will remain open with a small number of staff. 'From the beginning of this campaign, Kamala Harris and this team set out with one goal — to win the nomination and defeat Donald Trump in 2020. 'This requires us to make difficult strategic decisions and make clear priorities, not threaten to drop out or deploy gimmicks,' wrote her campaign manager, Juan Rodriguez, in a memo explaining the changes, Politico reported. He noted the 'incredibly competitive resource environment,' she faces. But many social media users interpreted the news as a sign she could be next to drop out. RELATED ARTICLES Previous 1 2 Next I knew Rudy Giuliani wanted Ukraine ambassador ousted long... Gifford Pinchot
Gifford Pinchot was an American forester and politician. Pinchot served as the first Chief of the United States Forest Service from 1905 until his firing in 1910, and was the 28th Governor of Pennsylvania, serving from 1923 to 1927, and again from 1931 to 1935. He was a member of the Republican Party for most of his life, though he also joined the Progressive Party for a brief period.
Pinchot is known for reforming the management and development of forests in the United States and for advocating the conservation of the nation's reserves by planned use and renewal. He called it the art of producing from the forest whatever it can yield for the service of man. Pinchot coined the term conservation ethic as applied to natural resources. Pinchot's main contribution was his leadership in promoting scientific forestry and emphasizing the controlled, profitable use of forests and other natural resources so they would be of maximum benefit to mankind. He was the first to demonstrate the practicality and profitability of managing forests for continuous cropping. His leadership put conservation of forests high on America's priority list.

Beto O'Rourke drops out of 2020 race saying he cannot see way forward
Beto O'Rourke announced Friday he is dropping his presidential bid after his campaign spiraled into a free fall despite his shooting out of the starting gate.'Our campaign has always been about seeing clearly, speaking honestly, and acting decisively. In that spirit: I am announcing that my service to the country will not be as a candidate or as the nominee,' he wrote on Twitter.Donald Trump promptly weighed in on the news, lobby a mocking tweet at the former Texas congressman from Air Force One.O'Rourke shot to Democratic stardom with his failed bid to take down Texas Senator Ted Cruz in 2018.He began his presidential campaign like a rock star – with a cover on Vanity Fair and a presumed front runner status.'I want to be in it. Man, I'm just born to be in it,' he told the magazine in March. But his campaign went down hill from there, including struggling with fundraising and dropping to 1 per cent in the polls. He was not on track to make the November and December Democratic primary debates, which had tougher qualifications than the previous ones, in which he was on the stage every time. Instant reaction: Donald Trump tweeted his mocking farewell from Air Force One Over and out: Beto O'Rourke quit as his campaign bled cash and his poll support hit just 1 per centO'Rourke also indicated his campaign was struggling to stay afloat financially. He only raised $4.5 million in the July, August and September. The 47-year-old vowed to support the eventual nominee and work to defeat Donald Trump next year. There are now 18 Democrats left in the campaign. His own future is less clear. Texas has a Senate election in 2020 with Republican John Cornyn seen as a potential Democratic target as Texas' demographics shift in the party's favor. There is a December 9 filing deadline for the party primary.Democrats had already been pressing him to drop out and run for senate, which John Hickenlooper, another 2020 hopeful, has done in Colorado. His staff told the New York Times he had 'no plans' to enter the race - which hardly ruled it out, and his own statement did not address his next steps. 'Though it is difficult to accept, it is clear to me now that this campaign does not have the means to move forward successfully,' O'Rourke said in a lengthy farewell posted to Medium.'My service to the country will not be as a candidate or as the nominee. 'Acknowledging this now is in the best interests of those in the campaign; it is in the best interests of this party as we seek to unify around a nominee; and it is in the best interests of the country,' he wrote in an email to supporters. He vowed to support the eventual nominee and work to defeat Donald Trump next year.'We will work to ensure that the Democratic nominee is successful in defeating Donald Trump in 2020. I can tell you firsthand from having the chance to know the candidates, we will be well served by any one of them, and I'm going to be proud to support whoever she or he is,' he wrote. Lamont was born in Englewood, New Jersey. His father, Thomas W. Lamont, was a Partner and later Chairman at J.P. Morgan & Co.. Lamont graduated as valedictorian of Phillips Exeter Academy in 1920, and magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1924. In 1924 he did graduate work at New College University of Oxford while he resided with Julian Huxley. The next year Lamont matriculated at Columbia University, where he studied under John Dewey. In 1928 he became a philosophy instructor at Columbia and married Margaret Hayes Irish. He received his Ph.D. in philosophy in 1932 from Columbia University.[2] Lamont taught at Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, and the New School for Social Research . In 1962 he married Helen Elizabeth Boyden.[3]
Lamont served as a director of the American Civil Liberties Union from 1932--1954, and chairman until his death, of the National Emergency Civil Liberties Committee, which successfully challenged Senator Joseph McCarthy's senate subcommittee and other government agencies. In the process Lamont was cited for contempt of Congress, but in 1956 an appeals court overturned his indictment. From 1951 until 1958, he was denied a passport by the State Department.
In 1965 he secured a Supreme Court ruling against censorship of incoming mail by the U.S. Postmaster General. His subsequent successful lawsuit set a precedent in upholding citizens' privacy rights. He also filed and won a suit against the Central Intelligence Agency for opening his mail.
Following the deaths of his parents, Lamont became a philanthropist. He funded the collection and preservation of manuscripts of American philosophers, particularly George Santayana. He became a substantial donor to both Harvard and Columbia, endowing the latter's Corliss Lamont Professor of Civil Liberties, currently held by Vincent A. Blasi. During the 1960s he and Margaret had divorced, and he married author Helen Boyden, who died of cancer in 1975. Lamont married Beth Keehner in 1986.
Lamont was president emeritus of the American Humanist Association, and in 1977 was named Humanist of the Year. In 1981, he received the Gandhi Peace Award. In 1998 Lamont received a posthumous Distinguished Humanist Service Award from the International Humanist and Ethical Union.
Still an activist at the age of 88, he protested U.S. involvement in the Persian Gulf War in 1991. He died at home in Ossining, New York.
