Pyeongchang Trout Festival
평창송어축제
Pyeongchang in Gangwon-do Province is host city of the Winter Olympic Games. Prior to the international event, the city organized the Pyeongchang Trout Festival to make the winter truly unforgettable.
Let’s take a glimpse of the festival to enjoy the seasonal beauty.
Pyeongchang is one of the coldest and snowiest areas in Korea. Because of the cold weather, all the rivers freeze to a thickness of up to 30cm or 12 inches every winter. The trout festival takes place on a 25,000㎡(square meter) frozen part of Odaecheon Stream in the city.
This festival provides many fun winter activities, including open-ice fishing, tent fishing, and barehanded fishing, which is the most popular activity that takes place twice a day. It also has various programs for children, so the entire family can enjoy quality time.
Offering the unusual experience of ice fishing, this festival draws over 50,000 visitors from all across the country every year.
The first step to catching trout is to make a hole in the ice. Then drop a baited line below the ice hole. There are some special tips for trout fishing.
Fishing requires patience. While waiting, we have to jerk the bait to give fish the impression that it’s alive. That way, everyone can catch trout.
Fishing is all about waiting... and more waiting. The anglers are waiting for their trout in all different ways.
I’m lying down here to see trout swimming through the hole. It’s very interesting.
After gently holding the rod in the cold weather for a while...They get trout they’ve long been anticipating. Trout are a cold-water fish that live only in the cleanest water with a translucent quality. Since trout fishing is relatively easy, children can also enjoy fishing.
It's a cool experience to come out here, and enjoy something that I really don't get to do anywhere else. So I think it's pretty cool.
I'm really excited to be here, excited to catch some fish,...and participate in Korean culture.
The whole family can engage in this ultimate winter festival, making treasured memories together.
I’d like to catch as many trout as possible, but I’m happy regardless as my children are having fun here.
Cause I get to bring my daughters with me and my father, so it make this is into a family event...so I think it's a lot of fun.
The festival organizers stock the stream with trout every 20 to 30 minutes to enable the visitors to catch as many trout as possible.
We release about 4 tons of trout every day, which is about 14 to 15 thousand.
Pyeongchang is the first city in Korea to develop trout farming back in 1965, and now it's the biggest producer of the fish in the country. The trout at the festival were also raised in Pyeongchang.
Fishing is not the only way to catch trout at this festival. Visitors can also get them with bare hands through the noodling event. To participate in the event, visitors have to wear shorts and t-shirts in the sub-zero weather. Then they have to go into the icy water to catch trout barehanded. The key secret is to corner the fish and quickly grab it.
My toes are really cold.
I can eat as many trout as I want here. I came after many failed attempts at fishing.
The real highlight of the festival is eating the freshly caught trout on site, either raw or grilled.
Cheers
How does it taste?
Actually get to catch the fish and watch it go through the cycles...and once it's in your belly, it's nice and full, it's fresh, it's delicious, and here.

Phoenix inn Ski resort
During the 4-day Lunar New Year's weekend I enjoyed some snowboarding! I went to one of the most famous resort complexes in South Korea, Phoenix Park Ski Resort, which is located in Gangwon-do Pyeongchang-gun (about 2 hours away from Seoul by bus).
[Review] Yongpyong Ski Resort in Pyeongchang, South Korea (용평리조트 스키장)
Yongpyong Ski Resort was the first ski resort to open in Korea. The resort’s accommodations are located nearest to the ski slopes, which makes it a popular venue amongst skiers. The resort has a diversity of slopes as well as 7.4-kilometer long round-trip gondola. With the resort’s high amount of annual snowfall, visitors can enjoy both an exciting ski trip and a beautiful winter getaway. Yongpyong Ski Resort has hosted the alpine competitions for the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

Introduction
The Pyeongchang Trout Festival takes place during winter in the town of Jinbu-myeon in Pyeongchang-gun district. Visitors to the festival can enjoy a variety of programs including ice and lure fishing for trout, snow programs, ice programs, folk programs, and more. There will also be traditional folk games including sledding and top spinning, and visitors can try out sports such as riding 4-wheel ATVs, snow rafting, sleigh trains. Any trout caught from ice fishing and lure fishing can be prepared right away at a nearby restaurant.
Trout farming first started in Pyeongchang due to its cold, clear waters. Trout offer plenty of nutrition, and their natural taste makes them delicious when eaten raw.

【Korea 韩国旅游】首尔-滑雪,生吃活章鱼,放烟花~ Seoul Korea Trip_Day 1,2
第一站 - 仁川綜合鱼市场吃海鲜,生吃活章鱼。
Seoul Korea Day 1- eat seafood and live otopus.
Seoul Korea Day 2 - Ski Experience, firework

Winter Olympics 2018: 'I-pod' unable to defend halfpipe title
One defending champion was ruled out of the Winter Olympics on Friday, while curlers hit back at those who question the athletic element to their sport. On the day of the opening ceremony, there was little meaningful action in Pyeongchang, with no medals decided, but there was no shortage of interesting developments.Skiing superstar Lindsey Vonn and her four-legged friend stole the show in a media conference, while it was announced Iouri Podladtchikov would be unable to compete for a second straight halfpipe gold. Here's our round-up of Friday at the Games.Podladtchikov was ruled out of defending his crown due to injuries suffered at the X Games last month. The Russian-born Swiss suffered a heavy fall in Aspen towards the end of January, landing hard on his face at the bottom of the pipe and sustaining a broken nose.Podladtchikov, who defeated Japanese duo Ayumu Hirano and Taku Hiraoka to claim gold in Sochi four years ago, had hoped to recover in time to feature in Pyeongchang. But having practiced on Friday, the man known as 'I-pod' decided he could not compete, despite a recent MRI showing improvements. My state of health remains far too unstable to allow me to compete at the level of Olympic competition, Podladtchikov said. With the Swiss set to miss out, the halfpipe medals are likely to be decided between Hirano, two-time champion Shaun White and Scotty James of Australia.Vonn is one of the more recognisable faces at this year's Games, but the American was forced to share the spotlight as her pet dog, Lucy, accompanied her to a news conference. She's usually in the hotel room whenever I'm racing, Vonn said. She enjoys sleeping the majority of the day.I always have her with me, I got her about a year and a half ago. It's extremely lonely on the road and since I got divorced I've had a lot of free time on my hands at night and being in a hotel room is often extremely difficult. She travels with me everywhere.I questioned whether to bring her because it's a long trip but she's always with me so I figured I need her for the most important event. Armchair fans could be forgiven for thinking curling is not a physically demanding sport. But Canada's John Morris - who combined with Kaitlyn Lawes for a 10-4 win over China in the mixed doubles on Friday - says that perception could not be further from the truth.Back in Canada, we have people coming over to us all the time who tell us they could do it, said Morris. And then they actually try it and they're like, 'Holy smokes, it's hard'.One of the best examples I can give you is from the Vancouver Olympics.A month beforehand, the Canadian ice hockey team went curling as a team-building activity and a few weeks later, Sidney Crosby admitted to us, 'I thought I was pretty athletic and then I tried curling. The next few days, there were muscles in my body which hurt, that I didn't even think I had'.It's something that looks very graceful and easy on TV but give it a go and it's definitely a challenge.
