Beatbox brilliance | Tom Thum | TEDxSydney
Never miss a talk! SUBSCRIBE to the TEDx channel:
Tom Thum: Armed with just a microphone, Thum pushes the limits of the human voice to create incredible soundtracks of impossible beats and phenomenal sounds, with scratched vinyl, the Michael Jackson back-catalogue, the didgeridoo and an entire fifties jazz band amongst his vocal repertoire.
You can follow Tom on FaceBook (TomThummer) and Twitter (@tomthummer)
Quoting from ABC's Triple J Unearthed website:
TOM THUM, THE VERSATILE VOICEBOX 'Tom Thum appears to have swallowed an entire orchestra and several backing singers' The Guardian (UK)
'There are not enough superlatives to describe the wonder of this beatboxing virtuoso - I am still trying to figure out how he got those sounds out of his mouth' The Daily Telegraph (UK)
'The mic master seems to have an orchestra living in his throat: trumpet blasts, guitar strums and samples from classic songs including Michael Jackson's Billie Jean effortlessly spout from his mouth' Time Out, NY
These are apt quotes to describe the performance of one of Australia's most prominent and respected beatboxers and serial pests. Only in his mid-twenties Tom Thum has achieved and experienced more than most artists could hope to achieve in a lifetime. From winning the team battles (alongside Joel Turner) in the World Beatbox Championships in 2005, to fulfilling every artists dream and performing on Broadway in New York with the Tom Tom Crew, Tom has seen his fair share of accolades and well and truly paid his dues. Raised by the small but accommodating Brisbane hip hop scene, Tom started out as a graffiti writer and a Bboy but slowly rose to recognition through his ability to produce unhuman sounds and his natural knack for performing and weaselling his way on stage...
Although the stage seems the ideal habitat for Tom he is also no stranger to community and has been helping the scene improve through conducting a plethora of workshops in many places that usually wouldn't have access to such knowledge and skill. Tom has travelled from the very top of Australia teaching in the Indigenous communities of Mornington and Thursday Islands all the way to the very bottom with a series of workshops in Tasmania and Adelaide.
He has also spent considerable time teaching on Palm Island and in Charleville and many other places that would otherwise be Starved for education about proper hip hop and the positive message that music preaches.
As Tom's experience within the music industry expands, he plans to push the limits of the human voice as far as inhumanly possible. Enrolling the help of numerous loop stations, Tom has been conducting DJ sets using only his voice and nothing else, propelling crowds across the country into a frenzy of jaw-dropping disbelief, as he re-creates and remixes classic joints and jams from all eras and genres. At present Tom is working on an album ranging across many different generes and features and hopes to have it finished by early 2012. You might see him on a stage at a festival looping up a storm or supporting anyone from the Hilltop Hoods to Blue King Brown, or you might catch him annoying the hell out of commuters on public transport. Either way, you will notice him soon enough. Keep an ear out for Tom Thum.

This is truely a revolutionary step in early management and prevention of acne scars that has taken Specialist out of the medicolegal stone age of scar revision and accutane-oratane debate. The earlier the acne scar intervention, the less scars, and the better the results.
Finding a method for your acne scar type will give you the highest success rate. This includes lasers, micro needling, PRP, subcision, surgical excision, punch elevation, surgical elevation, filling, grafting, steroid injections, energy and non energy based microneedling,, Radiofrequency, ReCell and many more skill sets. A specialist must have mastered all these skill sets to treat acne scars and not rely on a machine or device. The biggest scam to those suffering from acne scars is a machine or 'aesthetic clinic' driven acne scar program. I hate these clinics with a passion as they do not look after the patient. Manual target scar revision gives the best results, not marketing, not the latest lasers.
Never visit a clinic that offer only one or two solutions- especially micro needling or skin needling- derma roller. This will give you minimal improvements as this treatment is not scar directed. Do this at home safely and save money!
Here are the World leaders in acne scar revision- all are Board Certified Plastic and Dermatologist who Specialise in acne scars.
Professor and Department Head Tony Chu
Chiswick, London
Dr. Emil Henningsen
Denmark / Nyborg, Sweden- great skills with subcision.
Prof C.L. Goh

Dr. Philip Young

Dr. Nelson Lee Novick
NYC, New York- one of the most honest and skilled in manual subcsion of acne scars.
Dr Steve Weiner- Florida United States. World authority on INFINI RF treatments and pioneer for stems.
As for me, ....I'm still learning, as there is no finish line. I learn form these experts, develop new techniques, evolve, improve on their techniques, and deliver peer reviewed lectures to other specialists. I am not the best, I LEARN from the best to one day be the best. Seek these experts Worldwide, and you will get results. My job is to guide you.

Scuba diving has been through a series of different marketing strategies throughout the years. When scuba diving was marketed as dark and dangerous to appeal to the lads and adventurers, fewer families signed up. When it was made to be light and happy and safe, the adrenaline seekers went elsewhere so the public view on scuba diving shifts between the light and the dark but the rules around scuba diving rarely change and there are some big scuba diving No-Nos.
Yes scuba diving has become safer and safer and most of it takes place in the sunny and warm waters of the tropics but it’s still a serious activity and the rules you learn in your courses are there for a reason, and while some of these are definitely in your textbook some of these you have to learn on the waves. As a general rule of thumb, never say any of these words or phrases to a scuba diver as a few bonus no-nos, never ever say: Goggles, flippers, oxygen tank

Australian woman finds 30kg beehive in her wall
Thousands of bees invaded a home near the Australian city of Newcastle and left thick walls of honeycomb in the wall cavities, according to local media.
Sharing her videos and photos with Reuters, Megan Sutherland said she heard the buzzing on Saturday (September 23) outside her house and then saw a 'cloud' of bees swarming.
She then found that the bees had set up their hive in the wall cavities of her house. Sections of the plaster walls had to be cut open to remove the bees and honeycomb.
Sutherland said she has collected around 30 kilograms of honeycomb and several jars of honey.

What It Was Like to Fly in the 1930s (Passengers Slept in Real Beds!)
Getting on a plane to go somewhere today is almost as simple as catching a train or a taxi. But a century ago it was way more complicated. If you look at photos of aircraft passengers from the 30s, they’re rarely seen without their jackets or coats on. That wasn't just for the sake of fashion. It was really chilly inside since heated cabins were still rare back then.
There were some things you couldn’t fix just by donning an extra layer of clothing. Remember those vomit bags that are still present on most jets, even though hardly anyone ever needs them anymore? They originated from a time when not puking during the flight was a real challenge.

SUMMARY:
- The low pressure at high altitudes makes it more difficult for the body to absorb oxygen. Air travelers felt queasy and found it hard to breathe. ]
- But the first commercial plane with a pressurization system didn’t emerge until 1938.
- Another drawback of not having the normal pressure on board was turbulence. Without pressurization, pilots couldn’t rise further than 15,000 feet from the ground.
- In the 1930s, many aircraft had either weak or no soundproofing at all. So people onboard had to deal with the sound of wind blasting by, and roaring engines.
- During the 30s, one air trip from New York to Los Angeles took about 25 hours!
- To get from one point to another, aviators needed to make over a dozen stops, as well as refuel a couple of times.
- In 1938 you’d have to pay $243 for a week-long bumpy trip from London to Brisbane, Australia. That’s about $17,000 in today’s money!
- And yet the 20s, and especially the 30s, were dubbed the golden age of flight, and for a reason.
- Passengers had big and comfortable seats, and passengers could gaze out windows that were much more similar to train windows than the tiny plane ones we’re used to today.
- The voyagers ate at real tables while their food was served on fine china dishes.
- It’s hard to imagine, but these ships also had separate bathrooms for women and men, and even bunk beds for sleeping.
- If the average cruise speed in the 1920s hovered around 100 mph, a decade later they could fly at about 200 mph.
