Victoria, capital of British Columbia, sits on the craggy southern end of Vancouver Island. With abundant parkland, it’s known for outdoor activities. The city's British colonial past shows in its Victorian architecture, including stately Craigdarroch Castle mansion. Butchart Gardens, with 55 acres of vivid floral displays, plus statuary, water features and a carousel, is one of many formal gardens in the city.
VISITING VICTORIA, BC in 1 DAY! | Butchart Gardens + Afternoon Tea + Downtown Victoria Tour
Greetings from Victoria! In today’s video, we bring you the final episode of our Vancouver Island road trip. After experiencing several days of torrential rains in the last few episodes, we’re happy to say that the sun came out to bid us farewell, which meant we had a really nice day visiting Butchart Gardens and exploring downtown Victoria.
Butchart Gardens are hardly a well-kept secret, but we can assure you that they are worth the hype! These are some of the most beautiful gardens we have ever visited and I, for one, spent the whole morning ooh-ing and ahh-ing at the beautiful displays.
I added the Sunken Garden to our Trover list, because who knew a former quarry could be transformed into something so beautiful?! You seriously can’t miss this place if you come to Victoria.
And now we’re going to take you to the Butchart Gardens’ Dining Room Restaurant, where we ordered afternoon tea for lunch! Oh, yes, that’s how we roll.
The menu featured scones with cream and jam, Cornish pasties, leek and cheese quiche, and savoury sandwiches with salmon, cucumber and egg salad. We also got a plate of delicious house-made sweets. It was all delectable and we tried to savour each bite to the max!
Arriving in Victoria was quite the contrast after spending the majority of our trip in the north part of Vancouver Island. It’s surprising how quickly we got used to being in small towns surrounded by forest, and all of a sudden we were in a city with traffic, and streetlights, and lots of people! Our senses were slightly overwhelmed, but we still had a nice time visiting the inner harbour and hitting up a few of the main attractions.
The British Columbia Parliament buildings are home to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. The buildings were constructed in the 1890s in a mix of renaissance, Romanesque and classical styles, and they are stunning. Once we set foot inside, we were wowed by the mosaic floors, the elegant dome and the beautiful stained glass windows. In short, it was a feast for the eyes! I also added this place to Trover because I didn’t even know the parliament buildings were open to the public, but it turns out they are, plus it’s free to visit, AND you can do a self-guided tour and go at your own pace.
After wandering along the harbour a bit longer, we decided to head back to the apartment because we had some leftover afternoon tea treats calling our name. We had a quick stop at Clover Point Park to snap some pictures and befriend the dogs out on their afternoon walk and that was the end of our day. But now some final thoughts on our two weeks on the island!
And that’s a wrap for our Vancouver Island road trip! Once again, we want to give a huge thank you to our partner Trover for making this trip possible. For those of you who are curious about all the places we visited on the island, I’ll link our Trover profile in the description below, with a list of all the places we went to. And if you missed an episode, we’ve also got a whole Vancouver Island playlist waiting for you on the end screen. Thanks again for watching and we’ll see you soon with more adventures!

Butchart Gardens, Victoria B.C. Sep 2015. A walk through video with still photos added
Becky and Mike, with their awesome Australian Shepherd Deacon, visited Butchart Gardens in Canada as part of our trip up the west coast of the united states. This is the edited version of the video with odd noises removed and 200 high quality still taken by Becky. It gives you a much better walking experience as you enjoy the grandeur and beauty of this famous garden, that Becky insisted we visit.

If you are wondering what to do in Victoria B.C., then this is the vlog for you. We are going to share with you our top ten things to do in Victoria B.C. Put on your pedometers and fitbits because most of them are in walking distance in downtown Victoria and you will have bragging rights about the number of steps you walk each day. Some of them are a short drive out of town if you have a car. We have shared our best free things to do in Victoria and some of the things that are well worth the money.
#10 Whale Watching Tours with BC Whale Tours
Whale watching in Victoria BC is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It is worth the extra money to go out on a whale watching tour. If you are in Victoria and you have the time and money, make sure you go whale watching at least once.
#9 Fan Tan Alley in Chinatown
One of the most interesting things to do in Victoria BC is visit Fan Tam Alley in Chinatown. The Alley is great for photography and shopping. My personal favourite is Kid Sister Ice Cream.
#8 Shopping in Victoria BC, Lower Johnson to Government Street
My favourite place to shop in Victoria BC are the shops on Lower Johnson and then walk along Government Street. There are lots of independently owned businesses with local artisans that you will not find anywhere else.
#7 Victoria Bakery
Victoria BC has no shortage of fabulous bakeries. Our personal favourite is Crust Bakery on Fort Street. I would recommend their cronuts, a cross between a croissant and a donut.
#6 Beacon Hill Park Petting Zoo - Running of the Goats, Goat Stampede!
The gate to the Beacon Hill Children’s Farm open’s at 10 am in the summer and everyday at 10:10 am there is the adorable “Running of the Goats,” 30 seconds of sheer joy.
#5 Beacon Hill Park
Beacon Hill Park is over 200 acres of gorgeous parkland in downtown Victoria BC. There are bridges, lakes, ponds, paths, gardens, trees, flowers, running streams, ducks, birds, wildlife, eagles, and blue herons. It is a beautiful place to go for a walk or sit on a park bench.
#4 Goldstream Provincial Park
If you have a car you can take a short drive out of town to Goldstream Provincial Park. The park boasts some beautiful old-growth trees including Douglas firs and Western Red Cedars. Some of them are 600 years old. You can walk the flat trails around the lower part of the park or if you are feeling adventurous take a hike up to the Railway Trestle.
#3 Mount Doug (Mount Douglas Park)
Again if you have a car you can drive out to Saanich and take a drive to the top of Mount Doug from noon to dusk each day. Churchill Drive allows you to drive to the top seven days a week, or if you are feeling fit, you can take any of the trails from the bottom to the summit for spectacular 360 degree views of the city.
#2 Eat at Red Fish Blue Fish
Our favourite restaurant in Victoria BC is Red Fish Blue Fish. Red Fish Blue Fish actually isn’t a restaurant, you have to line up and for a long time at an up-cycled cargo container in the Inner Harbour for your fish and chips or tacones. Then you get to sit on the wooden pier and eat your seafood with a view of the sea planes, sailboats, kayakers and seals in the inner harbour. I will say it again, is worth the line up!
#1 Feed the Seals at Oak Bay Marina
Our number one thing to do in Victoria BC is to feed the seals at Oak Bay Marina. The harbour seals are super fun and entertaining as you throw them frozen fish pieces. You will love capturing their cute faces for your instagram feed. This is always the highlight of our visitors’ stay.
So there you have it. Our top 10 things to do in Victoria BC. What are your favourite things to do in Victoria BC? Would you change the order of our list? What would you add? What would you take away? Leave your comments, let us know.
Thanks for watching, please subscribe, turn on notifications and like this video.
See you next week!

This week Andy from A Taste of Victoria Food Tours is taking us on a walking food tour of Victoria B.C.
We met Andy through one of Tim´s modelling client´s Jessica. Her boyfriend and her run A Taste of Victoria Food Tours together and so we thought it would be a great idea for the vlog one week. We met at Victoria Marketplace which Tim and I were at recently for a photography gig of his called, Well Fed Beauty 2017.
One of the first places that we visited was called Olive the Senses. This is one of my favourite places in Victoria B.C. for balsamic vinegars. These are for much more than making salads. They have loads of great recipes on their website.

We made our way into China Town and Andy taught us so much about the history of China Town and all the alleys. There is even a time capsule that I didn´t know about. In Fan Tam Alley we stopped at an ice cream shop I had never tried called, Kid Sister Ice cream. This was honestly some of the best salted caramel ice cream I have ever had. It is dangerous this place is so close to our home.
Another big hit on our tour was Sult Pierogi Bar who makes homemade pierogies. They were simply delicious and we are looking forward to go back to try some of their unique pierogi creations.
As a local, I found new places to eat that I have never tried before and, I saw my town with fresh eyes and I learned things about my town that I didn´t even know. I think I would definitely check out food tours in other towns to find out all the best places that the locals eat and to get the lay of the land so to speak.
If you liked this vlog, please give it a thumbs up, subscribe and turn on notifications and let me know the best place to eat in your town.
