Landscape Photography - Banff National Park and Jasper National Park in 7 Days!
The Canadian Rockies had been on my list of places to photograph for many years. In June 2017, it finally became a reality. We decided to focus our 7 day landscape photography trip in Banff National Park and Jasper National Park. We had high expectations and were not disappointed with the amazing and diverse scenery that was seemingly found everywhere we explored. Since it was summer time, daylight lasted very long and we wanted to make the most of it! We averaged 19 hour days to catch both sunrise and sunset, always eager to experience the next location (and the journey to it!). In addition, Canada was celebrating their 150th Anniversary, so national park passes were on the house! These two parks were amazing to see, but are just a fraction of the beauty Alberta and Canada have to offer. We will definitely have to return and explore more! Hope you enjoy the video!

Moraine Lake Bucket Shot | 4K UHD Landscape Photography Travel Vlog | Banff
This video is the first edition created in October 2018. To see the director's cut (the second version) click here:
4K UHD video: This was a dream bucket shot photo op! My bucket list shot has always been Moraine Lake in Banff National Park under fresh snow, but it is next to impossible to get. Here is why:
1. The 11 Km (7 mile) road to Moraine Lake closes every year on October 10th.
2. The lake often freezes over before there is a fresh snowfall, and you want the water in its unfrozen state to get the reflections.
3. Often the skies are cloudy after a snowfall. It is next to impossible to get clear sky at the same time as snow on the trees.
To get all three factors to line up is practically impossible, especially considering that I live 12 hours away by car. Being there at the right time is incredibly difficult.
But this time the stars came into alignment. I was there the day after a fresh early season snowfall, and when the sky was clear. Even better, I was the only person there during a time when normally there would be hundreds of people at the viewpoint. How was this possible? You need to watch the video to find out!
Moraine Lake is the most beautiful place in all of Canada. Photographs of Moraine Lake under snow, in high resolution, are not all that common. I have wanted this photo for my entire adult life and finally it happened. It has literally been my bucket shot. This 4K UHD video travel vlog is my landscape photography journey to get this bucket shot.

A TOUR OF THE MAJESTIC ROCKY MOUNTAINS Banff National Park
The Highlights of our trip to Banff in Autumn 2016. We were there in the middle of September 2016. The day we arrived had snow, then we had nothing but pure sun for the week!! and Temps in the low 20s...with chilly mornings..A few days after we left they had a huge dump of snow!! About 30cm...So we dodged two bullets!!
Astro Photography in Banff National Park
I had one night and one night only to shoot photography in Banff National Park on my most recent trip to Alberta, Canada. Thus, I wanted to make sure I got the absolute most out of my time. So, I decided to do a crazy night of shooting night photography and star photography in Banff National Park. The conditions for star photography weren't exactly perfect, and I didn't run into any auroras, but it was still a beautiful night.
Banff National Park is easily one of the best places in the world to shoot star photography, and it's especially beautiful in the winter time. You get nice clear skies, incredible scenes, and no people. In fact, my whole time shooting the night images, I didn't see a single other person. It was quite amazing.
Anyways, check out the video for tips for shooting star and night photography with footage from my trip out to Banff, Canada.

Landscape Photography in Banff National Park
To see the full-sized images from this trip to Banff National Park, check out my travel photography blog here:
Home, sweet home. It's always fun going back to places I've been before. There's no way to explain how fun it is to go back home. I've been away from Alberta, Canada for 14 months now, so getting back to the land that made me has been great.
This week, Volkeswagen Canada was kind enough to give me the keys to their amazing 2014 Touareg which is a really fantastic ride. In 3 days, we put over 700 kilometers on it through Banff National Park hitting up famous sites like Moraine Lake, Lake Louise, Mount Rundle, Johnston Canyon, and more. Of course, as a travel photographer I had my camera handy for the assignment. Travel photography in Banff National Park is fairly easy. There are just so many amazing sights. Of course, you need to be shooting at sunrise and sunset to get that nice soft light and dramatic skies. Thus, we were up before dawn each day shooting, and were rewarded with some amazing light at the sights. I've shot Moraine Lake about 5 times, and never did I get such cool light as this time. Gotta love that!
Anyways, lots of cool content still to come from Banff, Alberta, and beyond, so stay subscribed.

Adventure Photographer Paul Zizka Captures Stunning Canadian Winter
Landscape Photography in Banff National Park
Landscape photography in the summer can be tricky because there's just not time to sleep. Enter, the night shift.
My Instagram:
My Camera Gear:
I've started the landscape photography summer night shift which essentially means that I'll be sleeping in the day and up all night doing photography. It just makes more sense in the summer when sunset it 1030pm and sunrise is 5am. If I want to photograph both, here in Canada, I'd only get a couple hours of sleep each night. So instead, as I share on this vlog, I'm switching my life schedule and will be up on the night shift to make the most of my photography opportunities here in Canada for the next week or so.
On this photography vlog, I'm over in Banff National Park photographing Bow Lake.

Winter Photography: Catching the Train in Banff National Park
#landscapephotography #banff
After getting caught in a snow storm on the Icefields Parkway I re-routed and headed for Morant's Curve in Banff National Park to capture several winter scenes at this classic lookout. The landscape looked spectacular but the driving snow made shooting challenging. I managed to come home with four very different images from the same place.
