Photography-Tour-China-2012-Photo-Walk-Beijing.mov
At the end of a full day photographing I had the choice of battling peak hour traffic and heading back to my hotel for an early dinner or continuing my walk, with camera in hand, and see what photo opportunities Beijing offered. The late afternoon and early evening light did not disappoint and I continued my exploration for several hours.
This presentation provides useful tips on how to approach a photo walk in Beijing on a winter's day.
I will be running a Photography Tour to China in January 2012 which will include The Temple of Heaven and The Forbidden City in Beijing; The Bund and Nanjing Road in Shanghai; Ice World and Snow World in Harbin; and several days on the stunning Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) in Eastern China.
Top Instagram Spots in Beijing! Featuring The Forbidden City and more!
Beijing in China is home to some of the most gorgeous spots to take some incredible photos. Join J Lou as she takes us on a photography journey through the city and shows us the best places to spice up our Instagram feed. We visit some of the most iconic locations in China such as The Forbidden City, The Temple of Heaven and The Great Wall before weaving our way through Wudaoying Hutong, one of the tiny back alleys to experience a more authentic Beijing. We go and check out the unique 798 Art District, filled with reconstructed military facilities that still hold traces of Mao’s time before spending the afternoon at Houhai Lake, playing ping pong with the locals and taking selfies with some new friends. It’s all here in our latest episode of Shorts, where we discover the best parts of the world in bite-sized format.

Visiting Photo Expo in Beijing
Today at a photography trade show in Beijing, I saw many aspiring photographers who are at least 70 years old! Photography for them is more than just a recreational activity to kill time. And their art? Way better than I expected - amazing perspectives and solid skills. I guess 'Made in China' affordable equipment had helped these pensioners develop their visions into passions.

My love/hate relationship w. BEIJING STREET PHOTOGRAPHERS
In the hip, fashionable district of Sanlitun, street photographers are a permanent fixture. During my time in Beijing, I've come to see them as the 'Beijing fashion police'.

Beijing journey: A photographer in China
Lois Conner first went to photograph China in 1984, for eight months, on a Guggenheim Foundation grant. Her large-scale panoramic photographs are characterised by their narrative sweep, and implicit attention to history and culture. Conner's works are now in the permanent collections of many museums, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, as well as the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Library, London. In 1993, the Arthur M Sackler Gallery in Washington DC, presented a retrospective of her work titled Landscape as Culture. Conner has also been teaching for three decades, at institutions such as Yale, Princeton, Stanford and the New School, among others, and currently teaches at Bard College. Her books include Beijing: Contemporary and Imperial (2014), Beijing Building (2012), Life in a Box (2010), Twirling the Lotus (2007) and China: The Photographs of Lois Conner (2000).
