Jiuzhai Valley in Sichuan, China
Jiuzhaigou is a spectacular tourist attraction in China. It has beautiful valleys, rivers, lakes, waterfalls that will take your breath away! We were so blessed to see its natural beauty just before the earthquake happened that devastated the scenic spots on August 8, 2017.

Our Jiuzhaigou National Park Tour | Jiuzhai Valley National Park
Today we tour Jiuzhaigou National Park, also sometimes referred to as Jiuzhai Valley National Park. It's an incredibly beautiful park but you won't find yourselves wandering in silence through Jiuzhai Valley.
Jiuzhaigou National Park, while not well known internationally, always has a lot of Chinese tourists. We visited during the July Summer holidays so there were a little bit more tourists than normal, but we felt it was still manageable. If you have the chance to tour Jiuzhaigou you should definitely do it!

Huanglong map:
Jiuzhaigou map:
Flying into the heart of China, Jiuzhaigou, was breathtaking! (and cold), leaving the big cities behind and seeing the rocky snow-capped mountains upon arrival I felt like I was in an entirely different place altogether! I had two days here the first day I visited the snow-clad mountains of Huanglong Valley and trekked all the way up to the famous Multi-colored Pond, after coming back down from the mountains I couldn’t find my taxi driver, the nice Malaysian people I was sharing the ride with and my luggage! about an hour later and all was sorted (was starting to get a bit worried for a bit until the drivers mysteriously turned up and Malaysian group started to appear out of the exit) and then it was a gruelling 3/4 hour taxi journey late into the night to the mega busy Jiuzhaigou, and more trouble with my accommodation and nowhere accepting visa cards but that’s another story… next day was spent in what can only be described as one of the most scenic places I’ve ever been to in my life “fullstop”. Needless to say I let the photo’s do the talking from this point…
Longqingxia Scenic Area,Beijing,china
Longqingxia Scenic Area is located at the mouth of the Yanqing Old City River, in the northeast of Yanqing County. It is 53 miles (85 kilometers) from Beijing City. The scenic spot is famous for its gorge. Visitors compare the scenery of the gorge to the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, but its mountains are much steeper than those along the Yangtze. The scenery also resembles the Li River in Guilin, but the water here is much clearer.
When you arrive at Longqing Gorge, the first thing you will see is the Longqing Dam. The 230-foot-high (70-meter-high) dam is inset between hills. Looking to the north side from the dam, the picturesque scenery of hills and white clouds reflected in deep green water can be appreciated.
But how do you get onto the dam? Use the elevator inside the body of an artificial dragon. The elevator is hidden in the majestic dragon. It is 846 feet (258 meters) long and can take people to a height of 295 feet (90 meters).
Getting down from the dam, you have to enjoy the river and hills by cruise. Every turn around a hill in the river will surprise you because of the new view. The scenery here combines the charm of rivers in southern China and the magnificence of mountains in northern China, which will give you a deep impression. Along the river you will see the heavily forested steep cliffs and the bare limestone in different fantastic shapes, eroded by the natural power of water. To some extent, it is much like Li River. Many of these rocks and hills have their own names, such as: Comb Hill, Immortal Taoist Temple, Flowers Cave and Jingang Temple.
The most important spot that you must have a look is the Comb Hill, also known as Solitary Beauty Peak, which is 230 feet (about 70 meters) high and surrounded by water. It is the landmark in Longqing Gorge.
Flowers Cave is another must-see spot of Longqing Gorge, which covers 0.74 acre (3,000 square meters). There are more than 1,650 kinds of artificial trees and flowers decorated with birds and other animals in the cave. The flowers in the cave are divided into several themes like: Blooming Flowers and Northern Scenery, which will, of course, leave a deep impression for visitors.
After enjoying the beautiful natural scenery on cruise, there are many other activities. Bungee jumping from a hill, taking cableway to appreciate the blue sky and the clean water, or boating by yourself on the river are some good choices. However, these items are charged independently for different prices.
In addition, Longqing Gorge is special for its ice lantern show in winter from January to February. Although every year the lantern show has its own theme, the spectacular icefall against the dam wall is always the highlight. If you are keen to see the marvelous combination of natural wonder and human creativity, you can go there during the winter.
Ways to get there:
1. Take bus 919 or 919 Express from Deshengmen Station to Yanqing Dongguan Station. Then transfer to bus Y15 and get off at Longqingxia (Longqing Gorge) Station. From Yanqing Dongguan, tourists can also transfer to bus Y40 and get off at Longqingxia Lukou Station.
2. Take bus 919 or 919 Express from Deshengmen Station to Guishui Beijie Nan Station. Then take bus 875 and get off at Longqingxia Station.

Stunning beauty of Koktokay in China's Xinjiang
There are many places you should visit in northwest China's Xinjiang. Come to Koktokay scenic spot first to enjoy its extraordinary natural scenery. The region, with abundant mineral resources, has provided rare raw materials for China's national defense industries.

The afternoon passenger train arrives in Bagou and the entertainment commences.
Most of our June 2009 video ended up on the cutting room floor as it didn't fit with the rest of 'Shibanxi Gold' which was filmed in the early Spring time in 2010/11.
Biking in Yangshuo: Gorgeous sights in the Chinese countryside (CC)
After we checked in to our guest house, the hubs and I rented bikes and rode to nearby Moon Hill. His prediction for the ride? I'm gonna get a sunburn and die of dehydration. What really happened was we saw cows and gorgeous scenery--karst mountains, rice paddies, lovely villages. We got a little muddy. We climbed a BAJILLION stairs. We were exhausted. But happy--very, very happy. (Closed captioned.)
Background: Yangshuo is a beautiful town in Guanxi province, near popular tourist spot, Guilin. We decided that Guilin was a little too crowded for our tastes, so we went a little off the beaten path to Yangshuo, a quieter place. (Of course, Yangshuo isn't exactly off the tourist map--there are plenty of sightseers there, too. It's just not quite as crazy as Guilin.)
We stayed outside of the city at The Giggling Tree inn, where we rented the bikes we rode to Moon Hill. The scenery could not have been more idyllic.

The Backdrop: We spent May-July in China (eight weeks in total). For the first month, I co-led a study abroad trip that brought sixteen college students to the Nanjing University of Science and Technology to study beginning Chinese. I also co-taught a Travel Writing class. As part of that trip, we went to Beijing, Nanjing, Suzhou, Shanghai, Yellow Mountain, and Slender West Lake. Once the students left for home, my husband Jesse and I traveled around China for a few more weeks. Our travels brought us to Xi'An, Chengdu, Leshan, Jiuzhaigou, Yangshuo, and Hong Kong. It was a life-changing adventure!
