The Hyatt Regency | Yogyakarta, Indonesia

The Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta is no doubt one of the most beautiful resorts we’ve ever stayed at! Set within 22 hectares of landscaped gardens you really feel like you are in a world of it’s own. The Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta is just a 10-minute drive from the city centre and the resort provides a free shuttle service. This gave us easy access to many of the tourist attractions in the city.

The swimming pools are surrounded by structures that have amazing stonework and sculptures. We had the feeling that we were hanging out around an ancient temple. Javi particular loved the slide. Check out this photo on our Instagram

During our stay we decided to splurge a little and booked ourselves a Regency Club room. Despite the extra cost, we highly recommend booking a Regency Club room. This gave us access to their amazing cocktail room every night where we enjoyed some amazing food and drinks before tucking the boys in to sleep every night. We loved it!

Most importantly, we also have to acknowledge the amazing staff! We can’t remember a time where we felt so well looked after while on holidays. Everyone was so kind and friendly towards our whole family. Now that we’re back home we would have to say it’s the beautiful people that work at the Hyatt that we miss the most.

There were quite a few facilities at the resort that we didn’t really take advantage of. But you may be interested to know they have a golf course, a gym, tennis courts as well as a spa and wellness centre.

One of our favourite things we did in Indonesia was visit the Borobudur temple at sunrise. ⁠

The view as the sun rose over the volcanoes in the distance was magical. The giant bells of the temple silhouetted created an intently mystical atmosphere. We felt like we were in another world, or another time.⁠

TRIP TO INDONESIA - YOGJAKARTA JOGJA - TRAVEL VLOG

Welcome to Yogjakarta Indonesia!

In this tour we visit central Java in the city of Yogyakarta (often called “Jogja”) to see Borobudur and Prambanan, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

About 15 minutes from Yogjakarta's airport is Prambanan, the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia dating back to the 10th Century. It contains temples dedicated to the three main Gods of the Hindu Trinity - Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

Next we head to the Sultan's Palace where we see a glimpse into the Indonesian heritage.

We watch the Wayang, or Shadow Puppet performance, which is an Javanese art form listed with UNESCO. The puppets are etched in intricate designs and the stories are accompanied by the traditional gamelan music.

We visit a batik art shop to watch how this unique Javanese art form is created using wax and color on cloth and silk.

Next we try the local cuisine including snake fruit.

Finally, we reach Borobudur, one of the top three temples in Southeast Asia. Built in the 9th Century, it was built as a monument to educate about Buddhism. It is the largest Buddhist temple complete with nine levels topped by a central dome, making it 10, a number signifying perfection. There are 504 Buddha statues, each in different positions ranging from meditation, teaching, to enlightenment.

Mt Bromo, Indonesia | Make Your Own Tour

Mt Bromo, Indonesia is an active volcano in East Java. I didn't hire a guide, I decided to take on Mt Bromo with three new friends. We started our hike at 3am to the best viewpoint of the volcano at sunrise. And later, we hike Bromo and catch sunset from the top. At the end of the day, we were the only 4 souls on the volcano. We had the place to ourselves. This is my story of Mt Bromo, Indonesia.

The mystic Water Castle Taman Sari in Yogyakarta

The Taman Sari Water Castle in Yogyakarta is one of the most famous sights in the city. It is known for the instagrammable spots, which means spots you can take great pictures for Instagram. This fact that visitors love to take pictures there simply means that it is a very aesthetic place. And it definitely is! The architecture of the castle, the tunnel and the surrounding buildings is simply fantastic.
This place is called water castle because it has three swimming pools in it. One for the sultan, one for the guests and the third for the children. Besides the castle itself there is a tunnel which leads to a shrine called Sumur Gumuling which is well known for its patio where four stairs led to a platform in the middle. this is where you want to stand and take a photo and it is also a spot i will always keep in remembrance.

What do you get when you mix 10 novice climbers, a bunch of electronic gadgets and a volcano?

North of Yogyakarta, West Java, we spent 3D2N summiting Mt Merapi, Indonesia's most active volcano and one of the most unique of them all. We trekked through the forests and valleys to approach our basecamp, where we camped overnight and an early morning rise to reach the peak.

It was challenging for some and exhilarating for others. But the outcome was the same, untouched, unspoilt natural beauty of Indonesia's best known secret.

Being above the clouds is an experience like no other. Being surrounded by 5 volcanos scattered across the horizon is a sight many may never experience. Merapi is special and we are glad to have shared this experience with you.

BOROBUDUR TEMPLE & MOUNT MERAPI

We booked a Borobudur Temple Tour through Lovely Borobudur Tours and we were not disappointed. The sunrise tour at the Borobudur Temple was worth getting up early. Borobudur Temple is the biggest Buddhist temple in all of Indonesia and is Indonesia's most popular tourist attraction. After Borobudur Temple we took a Jogja jeep tour up to Mout Merapi. The Lava Tour was very fun but getting to the top was even better the only thing that would have made it perfect was if there were no clouds.

We discovered our passion for traveling, beginning with our destination wedding in Jamaica in 2007. This year we decided to leave everything behind with a goal of traveling to 30 countries. We intend to record our experiences with a day in the life vlog, with the hopes of inspiring others to get out and see the world! Village life | Yogyakarta Indonesia

This is a video about experiencing traditional Javanese and Indonesian culture and living. We stayed at a local village at the base of Mount Merapi, the most active volcano in Indonesia, located in Central Java.

We experienced a home stay with the local people, learned about their traditional ways of living and learnt about the artistic and very effective martial art form of Pencak Silat, as well as archery.
