พระราม ราชนิเวศน์ / Phra Ram Ratchaniwet Palace - Phetchaburi, Thailand
พระราม ราชนิเวศน์
In the southern part of the town of Phetchaburi, located within a military complex is a beautiful European style Baroque and Art Nouveau Palace. The Palace was built as a summer residence for King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) as an esca[e from the humidity of Bangkok in the rainy season.
The German Architect, Karl Siegfried Döhring was the architect chosen by the King. In 1909, Döhring had accepted a position as an architect and engineer with the Siamese Ministry of Interior Construction began in the same year and was completed in 1916 during the reign of King Rama VI.
Although never destined to be used as a royal palace, the building subsequently accommodated foreign state visitors. In the following years, the palace became a teacher training school, aboy scout leaders school and a public school for girls.
During the Second World War, the Palace was used by the Thai military. During 1986 and 1987 the Palace was renovated by the Fine Arts Department and is now in use as a museum.....
Photography is not permitted within the palace. The interior photographs I included were downloaded from the internet.

Phra Ram Ratchaniwet (Ban Pun Palace) in Phetchaburi
Phra Ram Ratchaniwet is a second royal palace. Built in the early twentieth century in European style, it is in an Army compound South of the city centre. This palace gets far fewer visitors than Khao Wang and standing in well maintained park land.
King Rama IV had it built in 1910, the very last year of his reign, to be his retreat in the rainy season. It was a model of the summer palace of Keiser Whilhelm of Germany. Mr. Carl Dohring, the German architect who had designed Bang Khun Phrom Palace, was assigned to supervise the construction which was in Jugendstil style, a mixture between the Baroque and Art Nouveau.
The German architects used the opportunity to showcase contemporary design innovations: Inside there are spacious sun-drenched rooms decorated with exquisite glazed tiles, stained glass, parquet floors and plenty of wrought-iron details.

Phra Nakhon Khiri (Thai: อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์พระนครคีรี) is a historical park in Phetchaburi, Thailand, located on a hill overlooking the city. The name Phra Nakhon Khiri means Holy City Hill, but locals know it better as Khao Wang, meaning hill with palace.
The park consists of three building groups, located on the three peaks of the 92m high hill. On the western peak is the actual palace with adjoining structures. The middle or central peak is a big chedi named Phra That Chom Phet. The eastern peak houses the Wat Phra Kaeo, the royal temple, built in similar fashion to the Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok. The whole complex was built as a summer palace by King Mongkut.

Phetchaburi (Thai: เพชรบุรี (Pronunciation)) is one of the central provinces (changwat) of Thailand. Neighboring provinces are (from north clockwise) Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram and Prachuap Khiri Khan. In the west it borders Tanintharyi Division of Myanmar.
Phetchaburi is located at the northern end of the Malay Peninsula, with the Gulf of Thailand to the East and the Tanaosi mountain range forming the boundary to Myanmar. Except these border mountains most of the province is a flat plain area. With an area of about 3000 km² the Kaeng Krachan National Park is Thailands largest national park, covering nearly half of the province. It protects mostly rainforests in the mountains along the boundary to Myanmar, but also the Kaeng Krachan reservoir is part of the park. The only significant river of the province is the Phetchaburi River.
Several caves are found in the province, most notable the Khao Luang caves near the capital city. Illuminated by a hole in the roof several Buddha statues are placed in the cave.
Bon Voyage!
