Psar Nath Central Market in Battambang Cambodia ក្រុងបាត់ដំបង
Psar Nath is my favourite market in all of Cambodia. A market catering for locals (as opposed to tourists) it offers a glimpse at what Khmer people purchase and shop for on a daily basis. With plenty of fresh fruits and vegetable stands, hair salons and eateries it's a bustling hive of activity. The nicest part is that you can navigate the market without being hassled. :

Psar Nath market was built in 1936; a well designed Art Déco structure on the location of an open-air market at the river front is since considered to be a significant land mark for Battambang city: battambang-heritage.org/colonial_past.htm
Battambang is noted mostly for its colonnaded shophouse architecture, but right in the middle of the old town is Phsar Nath, a French modernist market. Built in the 1930s by the same architects who designed the famous central markets in Phnom Penh and Saigon, it is a very graceful example of late colonial design. There are two halves of the market, probably dividing it into wet and dry sections. Flanked on all sides by French-era shophouses, it is has become the city's most easily recognizable landmark. It remains a good place to try cheap, tasty local food: tripadvisor.ca
Battambang (Khmer: ក្រុងបាត់ដំបង, Batdambong) is the capital city of Battambang province in northwestern Cambodia.
Founded in the 11th century by the Khmer Empire, Battambang is well known for being the leading rice-producing province of the country. For nearly 100 years, it was a major commercial hub of Siam's Eastern Provinces, though it was always populated by Khmer with a mix of ethnic Vietnamese, Lao, Thai and Chinese. Still today Battambang is the main hub of the Northwest connecting the entire region with Phnom Penh and Thailand, and as such it's a vital link to Cambodia.
The city is situated by the Sangkae River, a tranquil, small body of water that winds its way through Battambang Province providing its nice picturesque setting. As with much of Cambodia, the French Colonial architecture is an attractive bonus of the city. It is home to some of the best preserved French colonial architecture in the country: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battambang

Cambodia Trip July/August 2016 Phsa Wat Leap Battambang
A walk in Battambang market an example of a Khmer market. Psar Nat or meeting market.
In this video I record a walk in the Battambang central market: Psar Nat in the centre of town. This big market It is located in an art deco style building and worth a look although it has a reputation for being the most expensive market in town.
In the building you can find everything: from small jewellery shops, clothes, toiletries, to any type of food stalls. Services are also available such as hairdresser, pedicure, manicure, you name it.
A great place for people watching: Cambodians eating, sleeping, playing cards, or having their hair or nails done.
There are some food stalls in the centre of the market where cheap eats are available. Unfortunately it was too hot for me to stop and try local delicacies. I visited the place in the middle of the day and temp was far above 30+C.
Psar Nat in Battambang is an excellent example of an asian market.

Looking for the laid back romantic city of Battambang , Cambodia
Battambang has had a chequered history which has left impressions on the city's culture and architecture. Thai, Vietnam , Khmer and French culture rub shoulders here. It is not quite the romantic laid back city that guide books proclaim it to be..

: Battambang is Cambodia's second most populous city, and a popular tourist destination due to the many nearby ancient temples, Buddhist shrines and the infamous bamboo railway. It is also the capital city of the Battambang province.
Battambang is known for its statues which seemingly decorate every public place. Most are of animals (mythical and real) and divinities.
The most famous of these statues is on the main road in from Phnom Penh and is of an ancient Khmer King holding a stick which he used to quell rebellions in the Battambang area. The name of the town / province comes from this legend.
Battambang's central market
Check out riverside dancing along the river around dusk. Some serious K-Pop action goes down.
The town also has a number of fine colonial buildings along the river including a very grand French era governors residence: wikitravel.org/en/Battambang

Psar Leu Market Walk
I give you a tour of the Psar Leu Market in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This is a local market. I didn't see another foreigner there, and nobody spoke nor understood English. Yet, I managed to buy a rice cooker! This market ia maze-like and it's easy to get turned around (as you'll see).
But it is awesome! Like and subscribe for more videos. Thank you :)

Phnom Proek in West of Battambang
(08/2015) This phnom (mountain) was near Thailand, almost bordering it in the Battambang province. They had a temple that overlooked it- we didn't go in. The landscape is so beautiful from the highway that runs along it.

I never saw such haggling over a chicken in my life as when my inlaws went to buy a chicken in the Battambang market. Notice the walk away at the end and the pivot on one foot when a deal is made.

The Bamboo Train: (The term train being used loosely - A large bamboo platform mounted on train axles powered by a small go-kart engine). A trip to the train can be booked in most hotels or arranged with a motorbike/tuk-tuk driver. Currently it is regulated by Battambang's Tourist Police, with a standard rate of US$5 per person, minimum 2 people or US$10 for one person, with discounts for larger groups. It is worthwhile to ask the driver to stop at scenic places.

Justice Matters in Cambodia - Battambang
Justice Matters in Cambodia is a Destination Justice's project. It started with the ICC Exhibit brought for the first time to Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, in July 2014. Since then, the exhibit has been taken on a roadshow across the country with a workshop encouraging the Cambodian youth to talk about how justice matters to them.
