Phu Soi Dao National Park
Phu Soi Dao National Park, named after 2,120 m high Phu Soi Dao mountain, is a protected area at the southern end of the Luang Prabang Range in the Thai/Lao border area, on the Thai side of the range. It is located in Chat Trakan District of Phitsanulok and Nam Pat District of Uttaradit Provinces.

Phu Soidao has the landscape that is similar to Phu Kradung, that is made up of a vast plain of grassland and pinewood. Its outstanding feature is the fields of flowers blooming in the rainy season and in the early cold season.

Running 999 Km for Charity Nam Nao Thailand National Park
Running in Nam Nao national Park. It is located high on a mountain and there is wild elephants. So you are actually running with the risk of running into a wild elephant but I did not sadly. I ran into loads of birds and spiders.

Neo, representing Thailandrun, will run 999km/620.75 miles to increase awareness and raise funds for a number of charities in Thailand.
The run from North Thailand to Pattaya will take Neo 30 days between 11th January and 9th February 2014 passing through 40 Provinces. Neo and Thailand Run under the banner of '999km Run for Water 2014', hope to raise money through sponsors, individual donors and pledges.
On the run Neo will be accompanied by fellow runners from overseas and locally, representing schools, communities, NGOs and government agencies in Thailand.
The run is motivated by the critical educational needs for children, the lack of clean water and the poor prospects for pet animals and wildlife in Thailand. The run and commitment to charity are a part of my 30 year contribution to the solution of such issues said Neo.
Education is the basic foundation for everything and during 6 years in Pattaya I have seen how difficult it is for most people to afford more than the legal minimum time at school. Without higher education most of them will always stay poor, Neo continues.
In spite of the Songkran Festival, when tourist and Thai engage in water war, the water situation in Thailand is far from predictable; Two years ago the flooding in Thailand and the resultant damage to property, spread of disease and loss of life was well documented but the lesser floods and droughts which take place annually, particularly in the north and eastern provinces, largely go unreported. Lack of clean water and education can lead to serious illness which could affect your whole life says Neo.
In Bangkok there are over 130 000 street dogs and there are always more people putting more dogs out into the street. Thailand as a Buddhist country has many NGOs making an effort to save the dogs instead of killing them. Soi Dog an NGO in Bangkok are doing great work and I am hoping to do something similar in Pattaya.
I personally have visited over 40 National Parks in Thailand. Thailand outside the cities has so much to offer and with this run I hope to both promote the beauty of Thailand and raise awareness for Thailand's endangered wildlife, Neo concludes.
You can follow the development of the run with the charities involved, the route with stops and activities and travel blogs at thailandrun.org.
Anyone wishing to to be involved, help raise awareness of the run and the benefitting charities or honor or pledge sponsor support should contact thailandrun.org or facebook.com/thailandrun. Chanthaburi: 2014 Khao Khitchakut National Park Finale Loi Prabad Holy Rock GoPro (unedited)
This is the moment ive been waiting for for the last few hours. My Raison d'être, my Pièce de Résistance, and a whole host of other French phrases and idioms. As I have been doing since the bottom I follow along, blind to the rhyme or reason that has brought up so many others to this spot tonight, but my experience is no less profound. I am here simply to be here, to witness, to soak in, and to be, to breath, to be my breath.
The relationship between the rituals and the dogma of Khao Khitchakut leave me still wanting as why is still somewhat hazy to me even as I write this. But then again why has never really been required to fully grasp the moments such as these, in the blind bewilderment and the awe, not only of the human imagination and experience but also of the planets, the stars and galaxies and the cause and effect interactions of the forces of the universe as a whole. The cosmic of Tandava, the swirling and swelling of Shiva's bosom, with a turn of the wrist and the stamp of the heel, rippling its effects of creation and annihilation across the richness of the cosmos.
And at the same time the ripping wind tearing at my eyes and the sharp eroded stone biting at the soles of my feet all mix in with the heavy scent of incense convecting in my nostrils spin like with gale-like hurricane forces within me. Its not too hard to suppress the urge to hurl myself off the to of the mountain. A quick look tells half of me that id probably end up battered, bruised and broken but not quite dead and the other half of me says something about being late for breakfast.
I don't know quite what I took away from that night, from that experience, but I am still in the daze that followed and yearn still for more, like a man blind with lust from his first taste of ambrosiac fruit, like a man yearning once more for the pain he so realizes he can not live without.
I leave it at that for now...until my return to Khao Khitchakut...I take my leave of it...without ever having left it.

Chanthaburi: 2014 Khao Khitchakut National Park Stage One 4x4 Off Road Taxi GoPro (unedited)
Khao Khitchakut National Park in Chanthaburi is home of the floating rock which is a gi-normous stone which sits on the edge of a cliff. It sits at the apex of the overhang but has not tumbled over in either direction. The park is only open for a few months out of the year so pilgrimages are crowded once the season has opened.
Here is a video of the first tier of the 4x4 ride from the main temple below up to the second tier. There are two 4x4 rides to reach the top and each ride costs 50THB. Once at the top, ine must complete the rest of the pilgrimage on foot for about another hour, depending on traffic & fitness. This ride is quite insane as you will notice (1) the 4x4 driver does not bother to use his brakes...ever (2) there are other 4x4 trucks coming down the mountain on both the left AND the right side of the road (3) the 4x4 top is open air so you have to hold on tight around the corners.
On the way up they call out the numbers on your ticket and you hop onto the waiting 4x4. From the top, its a cluster**** and you just mash your way onto any available truck going down...preferably after the ascending passengers have exited the vehicle but not entirely required.
Some advice:
- its better to go up in the evenings preferably around midnight as the temperature and air are much cooler and more conducive to the ascension
- most day trips to the pilgrimage do NOT provide accommodation. They simply take you to the mountain, drop you off for your hike, then pick you back up and return you home after a quick meal. As such is can be quite a brutal journey. Be prepared both physically & mentally.
- flashlights and headlamps are not entirely needed as there is plenty of light to each pilgrimage location on the mountain. However it is probably prudent to bring it along in case the power goes out or what not.
- one can purchase water and Mama along the way but its advisable to bring ur own water and snacks as it generates far less trash and to pack it out after you are done with them.

The Vietnam War: Reasons for Failure - Why the U.S. Lost
In the post-war era, Americans struggled to absorb the lessons of the military intervention. About the book:
As General Maxwell Taylor, one of the principal architects of the war, noted, First, we didn't know ourselves. We thought that we were going into another Korean War, but this was a different country. Secondly, we didn't know our South Vietnamese allies... And we knew less about North Vietnam. Who was Ho Chi Minh? Nobody really knew. So, until we know the enemy and know our allies and know ourselves, we'd better keep out of this kind of dirty business. It's very dangerous.
Some have suggested that the responsibility for the ultimate failure of this policy [America's withdrawal from Vietnam] lies not with the men who fought, but with those in Congress... Alternatively, the official history of the United States Army noted that tactics have often seemed to exist apart from larger issues, strategies, and objectives. Yet in Vietnam the Army experienced tactical success and strategic failure... The...Vietnam War...legacy may be the lesson that unique historical, political, cultural, and social factors always impinge on the military...Success rests not only on military progress but on correctly analyzing the nature of the particular conflict, understanding the enemy's strategy, and assessing the strengths and weaknesses of allies. A new humility and a new sophistication may form the best parts of a complex heritage left to the Army by the long, bitter war in Vietnam.
U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger wrote in a secret memo to President Gerald Ford that in terms of military tactics, we cannot help draw the conclusion that our armed forces are not suited to this kind of war. Even the Special Forces who had been designed for it could not prevail. Even Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara concluded that the achievement of a military victory by U.S. forces in Vietnam was indeed a dangerous illusion.
Doubts surfaced as to the effectiveness of large-scale, sustained bombing. As Army Chief of Staff Harold Keith Johnson noted, if anything came out of Vietnam, it was that air power couldn't do the job. Even General William Westmoreland admitted that the bombing had been ineffective. As he remarked, I still doubt that the North Vietnamese would have relented.
The inability to bomb Hanoi to the bargaining table also illustrated another U.S. miscalculation. The North's leadership was composed of hardened communists who had been fighting for independence for thirty years. They had defeated the French, and their tenacity as both nationalists and communists was formidable. Ho Chi Minh is quoted as saying, You can kill ten of my men for every one I kill of yours...But even at these odds you will lose and I will win.
The Vietnam War called into question the U.S. Army doctrine. Marine Corps General Victor H. Krulak heavily criticised Westmoreland's attrition strategy, calling it wasteful of American lives... with small likelihood of a successful outcome. In addition, doubts surfaced about the ability of the military to train foreign forces.
Between 1965 and 1975, the United States spent $111 billion on the war ($686 billion in FY2008 dollars). This resulted in a large federal budget deficit.
More than 3 million Americans served in the Vietnam War, some 1.5 million of whom actually saw combat in Vietnam. James E. Westheider wrote that At the height of American involvement in 1968, for example, there were 543,000 American military personnel in Vietnam, but only 80,000 were considered combat troops. Conscription in the United States had been controlled by the President since World War II, but ended in 1973.
By war's end, 58,220 American soldiers had been killed, more than 150,000 had been wounded, and at least 21,000 had been permanently disabled. According to Dale Kueter, Sixty-one percent of those killed were age 21 or younger. Of those killed in combat, 86.3 percent were white, 12.5 percent were black and the remainder from other races. The youngest American KIA in the war was PFC Dan Bullock, who had falsified his birth certificate and enlisted in the US Marines at age 14 and who was killed in combat at age 15. Approximately 830,000 Vietnam veterans suffered symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder. An estimated 125,000 Americans fled to Canada to avoid the Vietnam draft, and approximately 50,000 American servicemen deserted. In 1977, United States President Jimmy Carter granted a full, complete and unconditional pardon to all Vietnam-era draft dodgers. The Vietnam War POW/MIA issue, concerning the fate of U.S. service personnel listed as missing in action, persisted for many years after the war's conclusion.
