Trento’s Piazza Duomo is the buzzing heart of this city, the capital of the Trentino region. Duomo in Italian means Cathedral, and Trento’s Cathedral San Vigilio does indeed dominate the square, but there are lots of things that are equally important and interesting to see in this square.
The square from the middle-ages onwards became home to the civic and religious administration of the city, although before 1000 a.d it was an area beyond the city’s walls. The outward expansion of the city centred on this area, around a church dedicated to the city’s patron St. Vigilius, and with the construction of the Palazzo Pretorio and the Duomo it cemented its position as the main square of the city.
Trento’s Duomo, the Cathedral of St Vigilio is a beautiful Romanesque-Gothic building, with its famouse wheel of fortune window facing out onto the piazza. There have been a number of churches on this site, but the Duomo you see today was started in 1212 by the powerful Bishop Federico Vanga. The Duomo was the scene for one of the most important events in church history, when, between 1545 and 1563 the Council of Trent effectively launched the counter-reformation in Europe.

Trento is a city in the Trentino–Alto Adige region of northern Italy. It’s known for the Buonconsiglio Castle, home to late-medieval fresco cycles. Trento Cathedral, featuring a rose window and a baroque chapel, sits on Piazza Duomo. Also on the square is Casa Cazuffi-Rella, a Renaissance building with a frescoed facade. Southwest, MUSE is a science and natural history museum with high-tech exhibits.
The capital of Trentino is quietly confident, liberal and easy to like. Bicycles glide along spotless streets fanning out from the atmospheric, intimate Piazza del Duomo, students clink spritzes by Renaissance fountains and a dozen historical eras intermingle seamlessly among stone castles, shady porticoes and the city's signature medieval frescoes. While there's no doubt you're in Italy, Trento does have its share of Austrian influence: apple strudel is ubiquitous and beer halls not uncommon. Set in a wide glacial valley guarded by the crenellated peaks of the Brenta Dolomites, amid a patchwork of vineyards and apple orchards, Trento is a perfect jumping-off point for hiking, skiing or wine tasting. And road cycling is huge: 400km of paved cycling paths fan out from here. Those with an interest in early-modern history will also find Trento fascinating: the Council of Trent convened here in the 16th century, during the tumultuous years of the Counter-Reformation, dishing out far-reaching condemnations to uppity Protestants.

Trento: The Painted City (EN) - Trentino-Alto Adige - Italia.it
The City of Trento has always been considered as a bridge between the German and Latin cultures.
Trento's historic center bears numerous traces from the Renaissance, including its historic Piazza del Duomo with the 18th-Century Fountain of Neptune, the Palazzo Pretorio, the Rella Residences and the Duomo (the Cathedral of San Vigilio), which was the seat for the historic Council of Trent.
The city's history is strongly tied to the figure of the Prince-Bishop Barnardo Clesio. The Castello del Buonconsiglio, where he resided, is a magnificent and scenographic structure. On its interior, it is possible to observe beautiful frescoes realized by some of the best artists of the age, while the suggestive Eagle Tower (the Torre dell'Aquila), is a breathtaking masterpiece done in the Gothic style.

Trento or is a city located in the Adige River valley in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol in Italy. It is the capital of Trentino. In the 16th century, the city was the location of the Council of Trent,
