So much to say about this underrated & unbelievably beautiful Country, Sri Lanka truly is like nowhere else...
I began in Negombo, as its closest to the airport. Negombo isnt particularly the most exciting place in Sri Lanka, however it does offer a wide range of accommodations & restaurants to help start the trip. Many small supermarkets, local stalls, a few temples, restaurants & of course my highlight which was the old fish market, which is along side the beach offering local food, groceries, clothing & gifts. Colombo is just south of Negombo, it is also the largest city in Sri Lanka however not the most exciting.
Negombo Highlights:
-Fish Market
-Dutch Fort
-Few Temples
-Beaches
Day two: I headed east to Dambulla, were I stayed in a glamping resort which was a fantastic experience. Highlights in Dambulla was the scenic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, followed by an unforgettable authentic local village experience.
Dambulla Highlight:
-Sigiriya Rock Fortress
-Local Village Experience
Heading south of Dumbulla towards Kandy, stopping at a spice garden then onto the Temple of the Tooth. Both a must do when visiting Dambulla.
Possibly one of my favourite experiences on this trip, exploring the stunning green tea plantations, learning how to pick and operate Sri Lanka's largest export. Then onto one of the World's most scenic Train experience, exceeded all expectations & truly was unforgettable, a must do when visiting Sri Lanka.
I'd say Ella & Mirissa is where you'd want to allocate most of your time. So much to see & do, obviously much more touristy than Negombo & Dambulla as it has the main sites which are centrally located.
Next up was a beautiful and surprisingly easy hike. Little Adams Peak. 10 minutes from Ella township, offers an unbelievably beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, free entrance and isnt a difficult hike. Takes 30 minutes and you'll only need an hour at most on the top.
They also offer zip lining & archery on the way up. Yet another amazing experience, the Nine Arches Bridge. Very touristy but for a great reason, again only a short walk from Ella town centre. Something to take into account is the timing of when the trains will go past. The trains in Sri Lanka are unpredictable and almost always late, they don't operate frequently so either time your visit or stay for a long time and get that perfect picture. Leaving Ella, passing through a beautiful waterfall and also enjoying the amazing surrounding scenery.
Fun fact, Sri Lanka offers the second best Safari in the world, just under Africa..
And yes, truly a unforgettable experience, seeing Elephants, water buffalo's, countless birds and many more other beautiful animals in there natural habbitate.
Making my way to Tallala where I stayed in a Eco retreat which offered such a comfortable, clean and exciting resort.
Spent the day enjoying the warm weather by the pool, then the beach followed by a relaxing & mindful yoga session.
Heading to the vibrate Mirissa, aka the best beaches in Sri Lanka. Offering such amazing vibes, waves and experiences.
Managed to catch 3 waves in a short, with an amazing surfing lesson on Welligama Beach.
Saving the best for last, something possibly a little difficult to come by, but managed to spend a memorable morning with young monks, learning about their beliefs, routine and lifestyle. We spoke, laughed and taught each another our languages.
So, that was all within 11 days..
Managed to experience so much of the rich culture Sri Lanka offers within such a short time frame. Friendly faces everywhere I went, safe, positive vibes and unforgettable experiences. Sri Lanka truly is a Country worth visiting, it is very accommodating for all culture's & tourist, budget friendly and honestly has so much to offer.

Best Places to Visit in Sri Lanka
By [ Kaliappan
Sri Lanka offers a variety of options for travelers; it may be really hard for you to fix on an itinerary. It is tempting to visit almost every place that it has to offer. However, you could take your pick depending on your interests. With surfing and hiking options you are all set to let the adventurer inside you take charge. A 9-day itinerary, would do you good if you plan to visit this gorgeous country.
Colombo: The capital city of Sri Lanka is where you are going to land and while you are at it,you may want to take advantage of going around the city. You could also visit Negombo which is 35kms north of Colombo.
Galle: The drive to Galle from Colombo Airport takes approximately 2.5 hrs. The other options are a train or a bus which would take longer. Spending an afternoon in Galle would be sufficient for you to go to your next stop. Besides Galle, Your best bet would be Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna, which are two lovely beaches, which are 20 minutes apart from each other.
The cultural triangle: You definitely do not want to miss the cultural triangle, traditionally referred to as the king's land. If you are particularly interested in culture and history you would want to visit Anuradhapura, which is an ancient city dating back to the 3rd century BC. The cave temples in Dambulla, the ruins of Polonnawura, and the Sigriya Rock Fortress are the must see's in this region. The beautiful temple architecture and the magnificent statues of Buddha will leave you totally mesmerized. This could easily take 3 days of sightseeing.
Ella: Ella is little village located in the midst of tea gardens. It is a good place for trekking and the hills make the weather pleasant. IT is approximately 200 km to the east of Colombo and is a great place to visit if you want to enjoy some peace and serenity.
Adams Peak: Adams Peak (also known as Sri Pada) is a conical mountain, that stands (7,359 ft) tall. It has about 6 trails that you can venture on. It is advisable to seek local guidance when choosing a trail.
Horton Plains: The Horton Plains are located in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. It is popular for its tourist attraction and is popularly known as Worlds End which is a cliff that stands at a height of 4000 ft. The Horton Plains can be accessed from Nuwara Eliya. The Baker's fall is also a popular tourist attraction in this area.
Yala National Park: The Yala National park is known for its density of leopards. It has a variety of other animals including Sri Lankan Elephants. Yala has safari options and is a treat for wildlife lovers. Now that you do have a list of places you'd like to visit. You could engage a travel operator, who could arrange your trip. Getting a travel operator may help ease the stress of planning out the entire trip, yourself. A local [ operator could offer further advice on whether the places listed are accessible and arrange for your transportation and stay. However if you plan to explore this gorgeous country by yourself make sure you have first done your research well.

DRIVING IN SRI LANKA: 5-DAY ROAD TRIP | FROM SIGIRIYA TO TANGALLE
Hi guys! In this video from December, we went to Sri Lanka, hired a car and realised that driving in Sri Lanka isn't too bad at all. We didn't have any accidents and Pepe quite enjoyed driving in Sri Lanka! On our 5-day road trip, we managed to visit Sigiriya, Kandy, Kalutara, Tangalle, Mirissa and Negombo. Unfortunately, the weather in Sri Lanka in December wasn't great at all, it was raining almost every day, but we still enjoyed the trip a lot!

SRI LANKA TUKTUK ROADTRIP
¡Tú NO!
THANX to ROCKY from Pick & Go Travels for your amazing tuktuk. We miss it!
THANX to ANDREW & AILSA from Polwatte House, Kandy, and the indian girl for the funny conversations with a Lion at the veranda of the house
