Burden of Paradise Live at The Memorial Hall, Pickering
Burden of Paradise recorded Live at The Memorial Hall, Pickering - March 2013. The hall was sold out, members of the audience dancing in the isles... which is the main reason for the questionable graphics to try and cover the camera vibration. The band received a standing ovation and the people of Pickering will welcome them back any time!
Featuring Helen Watson. The gypsy. With a heart of gold and a voice of crystal. Snake Davis aka 007, described by the band as handsome but lethal. Snake was the battle cry of the Sydney Olympics, the soul of M People's Search For The Hero and the heart of Take That's A Million Love Songs. Probably the most distinctive sax sound to emerge from the UK in the past 50 years.
Dave Bowie Jr. The band say he's more intelligent than a bass player needs to be, Dave is clever but remarkably incomprehensible - he counts the Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain, Martha Reeves And The Vandellas and Steve Tilston among his conquests. Mark Creswell: AKA: The enigma. A man of few words and many moods, his chordal contortions have provided a treacherous platform for Mark Knopfler, Ray Davies and Tanita Tikaram.

Author Ron Freethy with Dave Roberts at Eden Camp on Easter Sunday
Reporter: Dave Roberts chats with author and BBC TV / Radio presenter: Ron Freethy about his latest book titled 'Yorkshire at War'. Ron talks about his interest in wartime history and how he has tried to capture the stories of real life experiences, whilst using locations such as Eden Camp Modern History Museum to research and publicise his work.
The video also features a World War Two washing day demonstration presented by: Sandra Day of the UK Home Front Re-enactment group, the group specialise in providing educational displays of civilian life during 1940s Britain.
There's also a little look at what visitors can see when going to Eden Camp. Although it must be said, there are over 30 themed displays at the museum and I recommend visitors allow at least half a day or more to fully enjoy your visit.
If you don't know much about WWII, you most certainly will after visiting Eden Camp.

Bellringing at St Peter & St Paul, Pickering, North Yorkshire
On the next part of my Ryedale ringing adventure, and this is my personal favourite out of all the towers we rang at, St Peter & St Paul at Pickering. Pickering Church is famous for it's paintings on the walls, and Pickering is a town I quite often visited as a child, especially to go on the North York Moors Railway. The bells here at Pickering are a 13 cwt Mears and Stainbank ring of 8 tuned to F, the bells were bast in 1919 and they are rung from the ground floor, which to me is slightly unconventional in a town church, but there are plenty town churchs with ground floor rings out there. These bells are absolutely beautiful, when we rang Queens while ringing call changes, they sounded immaculate!! Also look out for the fidget spinner that appears in the video!!

We're a small town in Massachusetts, population ~1800. Our cute little library was built 110 years ago, for a town of 400 people.
Features of our current library building:
* No running water. The composting toilet and hand sanitizer goes only so far with kids in tow
* So small that our weekly story hours can only accommodate 5 or 6 children
* Librarian must turn away volunteers, since we can only fit two adults behind the desk
* Can't fit people lingering over the stacks; it's in, a quick browse, and out
* No room for students to study
* Zero privacy for people wanting to use one of our two computers
* Can't host any events or meetings for more than a handful of people
* Free wifi (only part of our town has high speed internet of any kind). People sit with their laptops in their cars, since there's literally no room in the building
That's right--there's no room in our cute little library to sit and read a book!
Here's the awesome news: The state Library Commission has agreed that we desperately need a new building, likes our plans for one, and has promised to fund 60% of it. That means they'll kick in $2.1 million -- as long as we raise $1.4 million by June 30. So far, we've raised about $180,000. UPDATE on 5/17/12: since youtube video has gone viral, we're up to $240,815!
A generous anonymous donor has provided us with a $150,000 matching gift. Will you help us reach this goal?
Every little bit helps. mnspear.org
