The Association of Collegiate anglers has been visiting Florence, AL and Pickwick Lake to put on premier college fishing tournaments for many years. Florence is a great host site, and Pickwick Lake is a fantastic fishery!
The Bass Pro Shops Collegiate Bass Fishing Series is the largest collegiate bass fishing series in the nation. The series is operated by the Association of Collegiate Anglers, which is an organization designed to provide long-term sustained growth within collegiate angling through assistance with forming institutionally recognized clubs, serving as a sanctioning body and resource for clubs, and providing a unified voice for collegiate anglers. The Association of Collegiate Anglers also provides benefits for school clubs including liability insurance, discount purchase programs, no entry fee tournament opportunities, media exposure, and much more!
In addition to holding the largest events in college fishing the staff of the series works with college anglers to start their own events, learn more about the fishing industry, receive discounts from numerous companies and more.
The Collegiate Bass Fishing series helps college students nationwide create fishing clubs, host fishing events, compete on a nationally televised stage as well as work with numerous companies nationwide. Starting with the very first collegiate bass fishing national championship ever held on Lake Lewisville a decade ago to events now held nationwide, this series has been key in growing college fishing at numerous levels.

2019 High School World Finals- Lake Pickwick Florence Alabama
I had the opportunity to get out to the High School World Bass Fishing Finals in Florence Alabama. The top 400 teams from around the world compete for big scholarship money on Lake Pickwick. And when I say big money, we are talking $100,000 in scholarship money to the first place team. I think there were over a couple of million dollars in scholarship money up for grabs this week.
Teams from all over the country as well as Zimbabwe and Canada were competing for top prize. Male teams, female teams and mixed teams all competed for the top prize.

Fishing the tailrace on Lake Pickwick in Alabama
We’re bringing you exclusive coverage of the 2019 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops! Tune in and witness the nations top collegiate bass fishing teams take to the water at Pickwick Lake and compete for the championship title! Also on the water, we’re joining Clark Wendlandt and Garmin’s Amanda Masters as they get in some quality tailrace fishing time as the championship week activities begin.
Tailrace fishing is angling below natural or man-made dams on rivers, canals, streams, or any other flowing current. Fishing in a tailrace demands a certain set of skills from an angler as fishing the tail race can present many different challenges and is often unpredictable. But with a little patience and attention to how the fish are behaving throughout the day, it can yield some huge rewards for those anglers willing to take a shot at it. Clark and Amanda see the rewards of their hard work throughout the day, reeling in large small mouth, drum, and white bass! This is a trip that Jeremy and Hunter took to try and video some Alabama Rig fishing. There was a lot of rain in the couple of days prior so the TVA was pulling a substantial amount of water (in the 85,000 to 95,00cfs range).
The current below Wilson dam produced some fish (some off camera) but didn't make for efficient fishing for our time frame. We pulled the boat out and put in on Wilson Lake. There was a lot of keeper fish located so we concentrated on getting bites and catching fish opposed to running around the lake.

As the boat captain I wanted to document what the trip meant to me and what you see in the video is from my point of view. We caught more fish than what I show in the video but catching fish wasn't the point of the trip; the point of the trip was to have FUN!

Early Spring Fishing Pickwick Lake with a CHATTERBAIT
Alabama Bass Guide takes the Menkedick boys on a fishing trip and we catch em! Super fun time with these boys. The big brother next to me is my body guard so watch out. We catch most of the fish on a chatterbait with a True Bass Swimbait Little Head 4.5 on the back.
