NCL: Boston to Bermuda 2015, 7 day cruise on The Dawn in 4k
The Norwegian Cruise Line's 7 day Boston to Bermuda cruise is the perfect island getaway for us. We tried the other cruise lines to Bermuda, and other island trips, this is our favorite.
This was our third trip to Bermuda and we are still finding new things to do. One of the best things about this taking the NCL Dawn down is your ship is the only one in port until the last day. This makes a big difference on how crowed all the activities get. Last year when we went down with Celebrity cruise line the ship held a lot more people, and there was another massive ship in port the whole time. It made getting around on the one main road difficult until you got past Hamilton. This trip we found a great cave that you can swim in, and natural mangrove pool. It made the trip, and well worth the hike. You really need to be shown where it is because it is a 20 minute hike into the park. The porthole balcony ended up to be great, a lot more private then the other type. The front of the boat is not for everyone though, seas can be rough on the second day and you first day after leaving Bermuda.
Other activities that we we didn't get a chance to do this time that we highly recommend are swimming with dolphins at the fort where you dock. Going out the Crystal Cave out past Hamilton, and going up to the top of the lighthouse just before horseshoe beach. We filmed these in other videos you can check out on this channel.
Cruise Ship in Bermuda Triangle Storm
This video was shot on the last day of our Caribbean cruise aboard the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas cruise ship in which it encountered very rough seas when the ship passed through the Bermuda Triangle. The Bermuda Triangle storm didn't make anyone on board nervous because the Allure of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world and can easily handle these common Caribbean storms.
On the topic of the Bermuda Triangle… Some scientists now believe that the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle may be solved. Hexagonal clouds creating intense 170 mph “air bomb” winds are perhaps be to blame for an alarming number of disappearing ships and planes. What do you think?

The Hamilton Princess Hotel in Bermuda is hard to miss. The massive pink mansion is Bermuda’s oldest hotel, founded in the 1850s as the Princess Louise hotel. Today it’s home to a superyacht marina, an impressive art collection, and a private beach club, all wonderful features to enjoy when you’re not snorkeling the island’s coastline or out on the water chasing the America’s Cup.

Bermuda is a British overseas territory in the North Atlantic Ocean. Located off the east coast of the United States, its nearest landmass is Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, about 1,030 kilometres (640 mi) to the west-northwest. It is about 1,350 km (840 mi) south of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and 1,770 km (1,100 mi) northeast of Miami, Florida. Its capital city is Hamilton.
Bermuda is the oldest and most populous remaining British overseas territory, settled by England a century before the Acts of Union created the Kingdom of Great Britain. Bermuda's first capital, St George's, was settled in 1612 and is the oldest continuously inhabited English town in the Americas.
Bermuda has a very affluent economy, with finance as its largest sector followed by tourism, giving it the world's highest GDP per capita in 2005. It has a subtropical climate. ( source Wikipedia)
10 Things I Love About Bermuda
10 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT BERMUDA
(Read this piece and see pictures on my blog missmjxoxo.com)
1. Monetary Exchange Rate. The Bermuda dollar is equal to the US dollar in value so it wasn't hard figuring out how much change I should get back after every dollar I spent.
2. The Beaches. We visited Horseshoe Bay which is a long stretch of beach in itself, but you will find other beaches along the sandy path. We followed a pathway to Jobson's Cove which is like a natural swimming pool. Where the waters were rough on Horseshoe Bay, Jobson's Cove had calmer waters that didn't run too deep which made it great for my daughter and me who are both non-swimmers. Each beach boasts beautiful rock formations, not to mention pink sand and breathtakingly gorgeous shades of blue water. I also loved Shelly Bay, located in Hamilton Parish. Once again, with its calm, shallow waters, it was the perfect place for my daughter and me to enjoy. The beach was so serene and the waters looked like a bed of jewels sparkling in the sun.
3. Ginger Beer. Whether Goslings or Barritt's, Bermuda Ginger Beer is delicious especially served over ice and garnished with a cherry. I enjoyed a glass everywhere I went on the island, but my favorite was at LITT, Lost in the Triangle Seafood Restaurant and Lounge. If you're in Hamilton be sure to stop by LITT for their thirst quenching glass of Ginger Beer. They also serve delicious food and their music selection is perfect for those who love good tunes.
4. The People. New York is probably not the friendliest city so to have random strangers in a foreign place greet you as though they've known you for years is definitely a pleasant experience. The people of Bermuda are warm and very friendly. They are always excited to help. They will answer all of your questions without an attitude. They seem to have a laid back and relaxed approach towards life and that’s a great way to live.
5. I Felt Safe. Living in the Bronx, you know to lock the doors behind you, but we stayed at an Airbnb in Ingams Vale in Spanish point where our doors and windows were open during our entire stay. I don't think Bermuda has a high crime rate and although you should take great precaution anywhere you go, Bermuda is one of the places I felt the safest visiting.
6. No Panhandlers. It felt so good visiting a place where no one is aggressively trying to sell me something on the beach or at the market. I respect that poverty often forces people to peddle goods, but while on vacation I don't like being harassed into buying a beaded necklace with a shark tooth pendant. Besides one guy slowly driving by us to sell us sea shells, we did not encounter heavy soliciting which made for a very relaxing time away.
7. Fish Cake. The fish cake is probably Bermuda's signature food along with wahoo bites. I didn't try the wahoo bites, but I had two variations of the fish cake - one on a cinnamon raisin roll with tartar sauce at the Dock Yard's Pastry Shop. The fish cake I had at CoCo Reef Resort definitely took the cake. The serving was too small to be called an entree, but the flavors are beyond magnificent! A fish cake on delicious crab bisque topped with a curry aioli. The Gods have spoken and the fish cake at CoCo Reef Resort’s Café Coco is truly a must have when visiting Bermuda.
8. A Fully Functioning Transit System. This is great for anyone on a budget or even the adventure who chooses to get around like the locals. You can take a bus to pretty much anywhere on the island. There is also a ferry that takes you from the Dockyard to Front Street in Hamilton. It's an easy system to follow and the buses run quite frequently. We rode the bus with the local school kids and it was a fun experience.
9. If public transportation isn't your thing, Taxis are Readily Available. It is very easy to catch a taxi around town. We got lost on two occasions and were able to easily hail a cab who took us to our destination safe and sound.
10. It's Only a 1 hour and 45 minute Flight from New York City. A short, straight flight via JetBlue will get you to this gorgeous island destination in no time. Even though it’s a popular cruise stop, a quick flight will get you there in no time!

From Flyboards to Mopeds — 8 Adventurous Ways to Explore Bermuda
Ah, Bermuda, how can such a small island contain so much beauty? Many vacationers venture to the picturesque island intent on sipping a rum drink while relaxing on the beach. Others come to play a little golf or work on their backhands on the tennis courts. But if you’re looking for a little adventure on your next trip to Bermuda, you won’t have to look far: The island is full of thrilling and exhilarating experiences. In between your beach naps, here are some adventures you won’t want to miss.
Bike tour
Exploring Bermuda by bike is a great way to see the island. (Photo: Brittany Jones-Cooper)
Operator: Island Tour Centre
Cost: $75 per person (tour lasts about 3.5 hours)
Ride like a local on the sightseeing bike tour in Bermuda. After you hop on your mountain bike, your guide will take you on a ride along the backroads known as the Old Bermuda Railway Trail. During your trip, you’ll also see Gibbs Hill Lighthouse and other historic sites in Bermuda. In addition to bike tours, Island Tour Centre leads snorkeling, boating, and whale-watching excursions.
Jet Ski
Zoom! The open water is perfect for a Jet Ski. (Photo: Thinkstock)
Operator: Sea Venture Watersports
Cost: $125 per person for an hourlong tour
If you’ve got a need for speed, then see Bermuda from the water on a Jet Ski tour around the island. Your tour guide will take you through Somerset Bridge (the world’s smallest draw bridge) into Ely’s Harbour and along miles of beautiful beaches and bays. There’s even time to stop and feed the fish.
Flyboard
A flyboard instructor shows us the ropes in Bermuda.
Operator: Coconut Rockets
Cost: $165 for 30 Minutes
At first glance, people on flyboards look like superheroes. It’s like Magneto meets Iron Man, and it’s certainly a tad intimidating. But the crew at Coconut Rockets takes extra care in making sure you feel confident while you’re flying. The Flyboard is propelled into the air by water pumped through a hose connected to a Jet Ski. It takes focus and balance, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll feel like you’re walking on water.
Paddleboard
Operator: Just Add Water
Cost: $25 per hour
Glide over the water with the greatest of ease while standup paddleboarding in Bermuda. The crew at Just Add Water is very laid-back and can offer up a variety of boards depending on your experience. If you’re interested, your instructor might even introduce you to a little cliff jumping.
Zipline and high ropes
Operator: Outward Bound
Cost: Contact Mark Norman at mnorman@bps.bm or cell: (441) 717-0496
Outward Bound provides outdoor education activities for people of all ages. If you’re looking for a little family-friendly adventure, then maybe a high-ropes course or a rock climb is just what you’re looking for. The trained staff will keep you safe during all the exercises, so embrace the feeling of being out of your comfort zone.
Kayak
Operator: Tucker’s Point Dive & Water Sports
Cost: One-man kayak $25 for the first hour and $10 per hour after that
You can stare at the beautiful water in Bermuda, or you can get in it! Rent a kayak and explore the waterfront of beautiful Castle Harbour. All kayaks include towels in a dry bag, bottled water, snacks, snorkel gear, and life jackets.
Hydro bike
Operator: HydroBike Bermuda
Cost: $25 per hour
You might not be able to walk on water, but now you can bike on it. Hydro bikes are a fun and safe way to ride the beautiful waves in Bermuda. And best of all, they’re affordable!
Moped
Operator: Elbow Beach Cycles
Cost: Starting at $29 an hour
Let’s be real: A moped is just a glorified motorcycle … and there is nothing more adventurous than riding a motorcycle! As you make your way around Bermuda, you’ll immediately notice that many locals use mopeds to get around town. Take a page from their book and rent one from a local operator. It can be challenging to drive on the left side of the road, so be sure to follow the road rules, wear a helmet, and take it slow.
