• 26 Directors
• 26 ways to die
• 26 cinemas
• 26 April 2013
The ABCs of Death is perhaps the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning fifteen countries and featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world's leading talents in contemporary genre film, including the directors of House of the Devil, Hobo with a Shotgun, A Serbian Film, Tokyo Gore Police, You're Next & four British Directors - Ben Wheatley (Sightseers), Simon Rumley (Red, White & Blue), Jake West (Doghouse) & Leeds based Lee Hardcastle, who with his claymation short, won a competition to be the final Director. Inspired by children's educational books, the motion picture is comprised of twenty-six individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free rein in choosing a word to create a story involving death.
This alphabetical arsenal of destruction orchestrated by what has been described as a stunning roll call of some of the most exciting names in horror across the world. is one of the most hotly anticipated releases for 2013. When the trailer received its first UK airing, last year, it was screened to a packed audience at the 13th Frightfest, Empire Cinema, Leicester Square, the 2 minute clip received rapturous applause from the attending audience. The film will receive its UK premiere at the this year's Glasgow Film Festival as part of Film4Frightfest (Tickets for this event are now sold out) and its Irish premiere at the inaugural Twisted Celluloid Film Festival at the Triskel Arts Centre.

Mark Kermode presents Hatchet Job: Love Cinema, Hate Critics
Mark Kermode will be touring our cinemas with his new book Hatchet Job: Love Movies, Hate Critics - on sale now
The UK's most trusted and most outspoken film critic, Mark Kermode, returns to the stage with his unique blend of ranting and analysis.
For decades, the backbone of movie reviewing has been the hatchet job: the entertaining trashing of a film by professional reviewers who are seen by some as cynical snobs. Now, with the arrival of the internet, have the critics themselves fallen under the axe? But are the democratic platforms of the internet really more reliable than the old gripes and prejudices of the critical establishment? And what kind of films would we have if we listened to what audiences think they want?
Expect trenchant opinion, hilarious autobiographical anecdotes, passionate personal prejudices, entertaining diversions and scathing, sardonic humour.
Mark will be answering questions from the audience and there will be a chance to have your copy of the book signed by him.

In 1997 he graduated from University of Brighton with an Honours Degree in Editorial Photography. His photographs are focused on self-directed projects on autobiographical experiences. n Pigs' Disco, photographer Stuart Griffiths captures the brutal reality of life as a soldier in Northern Ireland in the early 90s as rave culture exploded. He explores drug use in the British army through his own memories as a paratrooper in Belfast. As Pigs' Disco – named after a notorious monthly party where soldiers let off steam – is adapted into a film, Griffiths narrates a passage from the book and shares its most striking images. Inna De Yard is a joyous, vibrant film set against a backdrop of the lush green mountains of Jamaica, that sees a superstar group of reggae legends gather to record a new album of infectious hits in an unplugged style that harks back to their roots. The musicians include Ken Boothe, Winston McAnuff, Kiddus I, Cedric Myton and Judy Mowatt whose iconic songs capture the poetry and passion of their homeland.
Directed by Peter Webber (Girl With A Pearl Earring), the film is studded with intimate acoustic versions of classic tracks (such as Ken Boothe's Everything I Own), and dazzling live performances from their unforgettable all-star concert in Paris.
Recounting the history and continuing cultural importance of reggae music, this landmark film paints an unforgettable portrait of these pioneering artists; their successes and failures, happiness and heartache, during a lifetime immersed in this colossally influential music scene.

Peter Hall - Lucky to be 'lumped' near Cambridge (2/40)
To listen to more of Peter Hall’s stories, go to the playlist:
British-born theatre director, Sir Peter Hall (1930-2017), ran the Arts Theatre, founded the Royal Shakespeare Company when he was only 29, and directed the National Theatre. In 1977 he was knighted for his contribution to the theatre. [Listener: John Goodwin]
TRANSCRIPT: Just before the war, a very extraordinary thing happened. We moved to the outskirts of Cambridge because my father became a relief station master, which meant he went to other stations when the regular man was on holiday or was sick, and he covered the whole of East Anglia from King’s Lynn down to Broxbourne, which is near Liverpool Street, near London. I used to travel with him sometimes in school holidays. I went to a whole variety of stations and sat in the signal box for ages. I loved trains. I still love trains. I used to ride on the lunchtime goods train as it shunted the trucks onto the single line at Barnham, where we lived. I missed out one important fact. When I was four, maybe… four, I think, I was taken to see one of those ancient things, which still affect English theatre life and English audiences fully, the pantomime. I was taken to the pantomime at the Old Picture House in Bury, of 'Robinson Crusoe'. All I remember of it, was… is beating drums, grass skirts, black bodies and an extraordinary erotic charge. At four I remember being actually quite sexually excited. I didn't know that's what it was. That was my first experience of theatre and it's a pretty good one looking back on it. From then on I was… and this is the cliché which so many of my profession utter – I… I built model theatres, I wrote plays for my model actors, I cut out actors and drew them and I'd seen almost no theatre but… I mean, I don't know why I did that. I was humoured in it. My father hoped, I suppose, that I would illustrate Gilbert and Sullivan one day but I didn't. And I was… I was just very interested in shows and how… how they were put together and why they were put together, and the… and the kind of excitement between audience and performer. So, I was lucky, aged eight, to be lumped near Cambridge because the next year the war broke out and Cambridge in… in the war, was the most extraordinary festival of arts, largely because so much was evacuated from London.

Listed building
A listed building, in the United Kingdom, is a building that has been placed on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. It is a widely used status, applied to around half a million buildings. The statutory body maintaining the list in England is English Heritage; Cadw (The Historic Environment Service of the Welsh Government) in Wales; Historic Scotland in Scotland; and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) in Northern Ireland.
The term has also been used in the Republic of Ireland, where buildings are surveyed for the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage in accordance with the country's obligations under the Granada Convention. However, the preferred term in Ireland is protected structure.
