Stalling life expectancy: whole BSPS event, 5th July 2019
Since 2014, projected future life expectancy in the UK has fallen by just over a year for both men and women. While early warnings of this trend were denounced by the Department for Health as “a triumph of personal bias over research”, it is increasingly hard to refute. As the evidence mounts it is imperative to discuss why and how this stalling came about, particularly where we are also witnessing a widening gap in life expectancy between the rich and the poor. This event brought together a range of speakers to debate the possible causes of stalling life expectancy and to help encourage those seeking to stop and reverse the trend. Organised by Fran Darlington-Pollock (University of Liverpool), Paul Norman (University of Leeds), and Danny Dorling (University of Oxford) on behalf of the British Society for Population Studies (BSPS); introduced by Piers Elias (BSPS president), speakers (in order) Danny Dorling, Gemma Ware (Society Editor for The Conversation), George Ploubidis (Centre for Longitudinal Studies, Department of Social Science, UCL), Alexander Cooke (ONS), Veena Raleigh (King's Fund), Jennifer Dowd, (Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, King’s College London), Julie Ramsay and Maria Kaye-Bardgett, National Records of Scotland, and ending with a panel discussion chaired by Dame Karen Dunnell, Chair of the Longevity Science Panel. Held on July 5th 2019 in London (at UCL)

Cocaine: Britain's Open Secret
London's cocaine market is now worth an estimated £1bn a year after new tests revealed people in the capital take an average of 23 kilos of the Class A drug every day.
More than half a million doses of cocaine, with an estimated street value of £2.75m, are being consumed in London on average each day - twice the amount of any other European city, according to a study seen exclusively by Sky News.

????Virgil Van Dijk Denies Contract Talks With Liverpool | Ronaldo Aiming To Beat Messi’s Ballon d’Or
????Virgil Van Dijk Denies Contract Talks With Liverpool | Ronaldo Aiming To Beat Messi’s Ballon d’Or !
Virgil van Dijik has insisted that, he has not held talks with Liverpool over a new contract at Anfield.
The Netherlands international still has little under four years left to run on the deal, that he signed with the Reds upon his arrival from Southampton in January 2018.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the centre-back had agreed a new six-year contract with the Champions League winners, with an announcement on the extension set to be made public.
Sancho has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, and it has been reported that the Red Devils are confident of signing the 19-year-old in next summer's transfer window.
However, speaking after Dortmund's goalless draw with Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday night, the England international has insisted that he is currently simply focusing on BVB.
I can't tell the future, Sancho told Viasport. I just take it game by game. I just wanna give 100% for Borussia Dortmund. I really want to do well with Dortmund. Obviously, I want to win titles and give everything.
Cristiano Ronaldo says, he wants to win more Ballon d'Or awards - the trophy for the world's best player - than his main rival, Lionel Messi.
Juventus forward Ronaldo, 34, has won the prize five times - as many times as 32-year-old Barcelona forward Messi.
Messi's in the history of football - but I think I have to have six or seven or eight to be above him, said Ronaldo on ITV's Cristiano Ronaldo Meets Piers Morgan.

Waterpark Drive, LIVERPOOL, Merseyside
Lovely modern semi detached with spacious driveway and sunny gardens. The property offers a lounge, dining room and fitted kitchen along with a ground floor wc and three bedrooms with ensuite shower room and family bathroom.
The location gives access to major shopping areas and motorways and would be ideal for either first time buyes, downsizing or a small family. The house has been maintained to a high standard and an early viewing is recommended.

Newsome Mill demolition machine leaving the site
The week of the fire that destroyed Newsome Mill has been a sad and painful one for the residents of Newsome, for those who grew up here and for many others who love this mill. Here's the machine that demolished the four-storey mill leaving the site on Friday 25th November 2016. At the time of writing, our iconic clock tower and all the other Grade II Listed buildings at Newsome Mills are still standing.
