North of Superior: Hiking along Pigeon River Provincial Park
Pigeon River is home to many regionally uncommon hardwood species such as bur oak, red maple, black ash, and white elm. The central feature of the park, however, is the impressive 28 metre (90 ft) High Falls which empties into the spectacular Pigeon River Gorge. This park was formerly named Middle Falls after a smaller (6 m/20 ft) falls upstream from the big falls and just outside the park's boundary. The Pigeon River is part of the Canadian Heritage River System Boundary Waters Voyageur Waterway.
One of the cultural features of the park is the remnant of an old sluiceway used to drive great white pine logs that had been harvested upstream around the falls.
Located 62 km (37 miles) south of Thunder Bay on Hwy. 61, trails are accessible from the Ontario Tourist Information Centre at the US border or from Pigeon River Provincial Park.

Pigeon River Provincial Park Hike Jan 21 2018
Here we take a hike through the former Middle falls Provincial Park, now known as Pigeon River Provincial park. The river forms the Boundary between Ontario and Minnesota. The river in the 1900s was used for log driving as well to mills in both the US and Canada.
The Park was very active in her day and was home to lots of activity. The ice cream shop and souvenirs in the small store probably remain a of the things people recall, along with the sunken gardens that was on site. The brick firepits that were at each campsite were also a familiar site. Like many of the parks in the Province the Government has let this one go to the wayside and grown in, and of course no more overnight camping.

I enjoy all aspects of the outdoors, be it hiking, biking, hunting, fishing or canoeing.
Camping and survival are two skills I continually try and work on and stay ready and practiced in the event these lifesaving skills are required.
I have had many teachers in my life and appreciate all that they have taught me, and I try to do the same thing.
Amateur radio is also one of my hobbies and past time, and it as well has taught me lots and has helped me meet people around the world.
Family is of course the most important aspect of my life and has brought me the most enjoyable memories in life.

North of Superior: Pigeon River Middle Fall
The Middle Falls of the Pigeon River is in Pigeon River Provincial park. Pigeon River Provincial Park has been reduced to a day use only park, and there are no signs for it on Hwy 17. You want to head west on 593, just north of the border. You can park at the ranger station. There is an abandoned campground to explore if you wish.
This falls can also be reached from Minnesota's Grand Portage State Park
Downstream of the Middle Falls is the High Falls. The 40' high Partridge falls is upstream.
