Laurieton, Dunbogan and Camden Head - #2 Camden Haven Tour #CAFAR
Let's continue my personalised guided tour of the Camden Haven by checking out all my favourite riverside haunts on the OTHER side of the river :)
The trip from Laurieton to Camden Head (via Dunbogan) takes in some amazing river and coastal views.
And the visit to Pilot Beach reminds me of why I moved here in the first place, almost 20 years ago in 2000.
It's not hard to see why I fell in love with this place!
Cheers

Camden Haven NSW Tourism Video visitcamdenhaven.com.au
The Camden Haven area on the NSW Mid North Coast offers a great range of accommodation from tent sites in our great holiday parks to luxury tree houses and B & Bs. There are also motels, self-catering apartments and holiday houses. The beautiful Camden Haven is located thirty minutes south of Port Macquarie and forty minutes north of Taree. This ‘Valley of Villages’ hugs the Camden Haven River as it makes its way from the lush Comboyne Plateau to the blue Pacific Ocean. As the river meanders through this magnificent valley it passes through the villages of Lorne, Kendall, Kew, Laurieton, Dunbogan, entering the sea between North Haven and Camden Head. Bonny Hills lies to the north overlooking Grants & Rainbow beaches. Just a further five minutes north is Lake Cathie (pronounced Cat-eye) with its beautiful lake, lagoon and beaches. In the south, on the Stewarts River (a tributary of the Camden Haven River) you will find the villages of Johns River and Hannam Vale and their beautiful rural surrounds.
A key drawcard of the district is the myriad of waterways which make up the Camden Haven Inlet. Watson Taylors Lake, Queens Lake, Pilot Beach and Gogleys Lagoon are some of the natural features which are home to an abundance of marine and bird life. One of the best ways to experience the Camden Haven is aboard the vessel Far-Lap; its shallow draft and low profile allow it to navigate a large area of the districts beautiful waters.
When visiting be sure to call into the iKew Visitor Information Centre at Kew, the ‘Gateway’ to the Camden Haven.

Be The Change: Students in Action
In 2010 the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation supported a tour of the Be The Change pilot project to 6 six regional schools in New South Wales, Australia.
Conceived as an educational 'active citizenship' program, it utilised the award winning documentary, The Burning Season in a secondary school environment. Its goal was to motivate and inspire teenagers (specifically from Year 8 Geography classes) to positively confront climate change by enacting a community quest.
Be The Change included visits to Merriwa, Coffs Harbour, Mullumbimby, Bellingen, Camden Haven and Gloucester.
The students involved with Be The Change felt more empowered, inspired and motivated to be active young citizens. They also reported a very high level of enjoyment and engagement with the project.
This short documentary follows the students journey and introduces a larger, global project inspired Be the Change called DeforestACTION. Millions of students across the globe are now working with acclaimed scientist Dr Willie Smits to save forests in Borneo, replant an entire forest eco-system, rescue and care for orangutans and start a global wave of youth action.
Virgo Productions is developing a 3D movie about the project in collaboration with National Geographic. Students from the Be the Change pilot project will be invited to join Project Borneo 3D and continue their work as active global citizens.
