Pinecrest Lake, California is a picturesque lake nestled in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains. It is part of the Stanislaus National Forest and is a peaceful outdoor retreat. This was the first time Ben and I had visited, and we fell in love with the raw beauty the mountains offered.
About a month ago, our family invited us to hike, swim and play at the lake. A special thank you to the Dupont family! You can rent boats, kayaks, paddleboats and more at the marina for as little as $15 an hour. Hiking around the lake is free and fun! Plus, you can jump into the lake when you get too hot! Our favorite part was cliff jumping.
During the winter months, nearby Dodge Ridge is a lovely place to ski or snowboard. Be sure to check this place out if you are in the area!

I will show you some things to do in the Sonora area, a mountain town in California, in the Sierra Foothills!
Indigeny reserve
14679 Summers Ln, Sonora, CA
Indigeny reserve is a 160 acre apple ranch, ciderworks and distillery.
They make hard cider and apple brandy. There’s an Indigeny Reserve tasting bar where you can try all their flavors. On weekends you can tour the distillery and barrel room. And there’s a picnic area that's fun for family gatherings, especially on holidays. It’s a fun place to bring kids and is very family focused.

30 miles east of Sonora is Pinecrest Lake. There are a lot of fun things to do at Pinecrest Lake, including bbqs, hiking, boating, swimming, or just relaxing at Pinecrest Lake.
Columbia State Historic Park

Columbia State Historic Park is a historic California gold rush town, and the largest of its kind in California. Walk through it’s captivating streets and stumble upon historic buildings from the Gold rush era. This California gold rush town has many interactive exhibits including candle dipping and gold panning. They also host California gold rush events throughout the year.
Twain Harte

Sonora and Pinecrest are also near a charming town called Twain Harte. Twain Harte is very popular for travel and vacation rentals, with lots of outdoor activities nearby all year round. It’s inviting downtown area has many unique shops and is a fun place to walk around.

Upper Crabtree - Pinecrest, CA
Cruising down the top section of Crabtree in Pinecrest, CA near Dodge Ridge. Highly recommend this trail especially since you can shuttle it.
2017 Fish Plant at Pinecrest Lake, California
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife planted rainbow trout from the Moccasin hatchery at Pinecrest Lake on Friday, August 11, 2017. Half the fish were three pounds or more. They were part of a broodstock relocated to the Moccasin hatchery from a Central Valley hatchery in 2017.

Camping at Pinecrest Lake
I have had students who camp every summer at Pinecrest Lake. This was my first time camping there. It is great place. I recommend hiking all the way around the lake, swimming in the lake and trying to walk on the floating logs.

Pinecrest Campground and Cabins - MO
We enjoyed riding at this privately owned and operated family campground in Salem, Missouri. The owners, Ethan and Marie, are friendly and very attentive to the needs of their guests. The campground and facilities are extremely clean and neat. The trails have a nice variety of flat wide trails to single track trails in higher elevations. There are horse trails that pass crystal clear ponds, cross the Current River, and ride along side the river with nice views of the river bluffs. This is a great place to camp and ride. The campground has electric and water at each site and covered stalls nearby each site.
