2018 China: Pingyao - County Government Office
Located to the southwest of Pingyao Ancient City center on Yamen Street, Ancient Government Office is the largest and best-preserved existing ancient county government office in China. With a length of 203 meters (222 yards) and a width of 131 meters (143 yards), it covers approximately 26,000 square meters (31,095 square yards). One can learn of the bureaucratic culture of Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1912) from its architecture, plaques, and couplets.
Pingyao Ancient Government Office dates back to the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534). The oldest remaining building was constructed in 1346, more than 600 years ago. The County Annals recorded that in 1303 a big earthquake took place in Pingyao and the county government was destroyed. More than 100 magistrates in the Ming and Qing Dynasties reconstructed the government and successively added new buildings. In 1949, Ancient Government Office was replaced with the People’s Government of Pingyao County and most old buildings were dismantled. After the government offices moved out in 1998, this site was restored and opened to the public as Pingyao County Government Museum.
The overall ancient government office architecture shows a traditional Chinese feature of facing south and being symmetrical. There are six rows of buildings along the central axis, respectively front gate, secondary gate (Yi Gate), primary law court, secondary law court, inner chambers and fox spirit pavilion.

EPISODE 7 OF VR CITY TOURS: PINGYAO ???? ???????? | A NEW VR CITY TOUR EPISODE EVERY TUESDAY
Pingyao (平遥) is China’s best-preserved ancient walled town. If you have any China mileage under your belt you'll appreciate the town’s age-old charms; charms squandered away – or forever lost – elsewhere across the Middle Kingdom.
While other ‘ancient’ cities in China will rustle together an unconvincing display of old city walls, sporadic temples or the occasional ragged alley thrust beneath an unsightly melange of white-tile architecture and greying apartment blocks, Pingyao has managed to keep its beguiling narrative largely intact: red-lantern–hung lanes set against night-time silhouettes of imposing town walls, elegant courtyard architecture, ancient towers poking into the north China sky, and an entire brood of creaking temples and old buildings.
Pingyao is also a living and breathing community where the 30,000-odd locals who reside in the old town hang laundry in courtyards, career down alleyways on bicycles, sun themselves in doorways or chew the fat with neighbours.

This ANCIENT Chinese Town Is 5 Months Old | Ancient Cities in CHINA (Changli, Qinhuangdao)
Watch this video to see how the Chinese government is creating these so-called ancient Chinese towns in order to attract tourists to develop the rural parts of China.
Changli (昌黎)is a district of the city of Qinhuangdao (秦皇岛). It was previously just a place to grow grapes but now, developers are trying to bring the public to these places to invest in.
Ancient cities in China are everywhere but this one is interesting because it isn't ancient at all; it's only about 5 months old since the making of this video!
Although this Chinese town isn't old, it still has the traditional Chinese architecture and layout to appeal to many tourists. It's currently quite vacant, but expect this area to be booming with shops, bars and restaurants in the future. These are all part of efforts by the government to further develop the city of Qinhuangdao by increasing investment into rural parts of it such as Changli.

China's ancient Roman city
For many years, some villagers in Yongchang county in Gansu province have been puzzled by their foreign looks. Historians and scholars have argued that they might just be the descendants of the ancient Roman city called Liqian, Chow How Ban reports.

Wander around the Nantou Old Town – Cities, Grow in Difference
Let's follow the filming team and explore the Nantou Old Town, the main venue of UABB2017! The most important events are those little things that happen in the street.
Themed on Cities, Grow in Difference, the 7th Bi-City Biennale of UrbanismArchitecture in 2017 will be a tailor-made one for urban villages, which are the product of the conflict between the rapid urbanization and the urban-rural duality leftover from the planned economy era in China. The unique exhibition environment of the urban village pushes us to redefine and rethink the structure and experience of UABB.

SUMMARY
=======
Shanxi (山西; alternately romanised as Shansi) is a landlocked province of the People's Republic of China, located in the North China region. The capital and largest city of the province is Taiyuan, while its next most populated prefecture-level cities are Changzhi and Datong. Its one-character abbreviation is 晋 (pinyin: Jìn), after the state of Jin that existed here during the Spring and Autumn period.
The name Shanxi means West of the Mountains, a reference to the province's location west of the Taihang Mountains.. Shanxi borders Hebei to the east, Henan to the south, Shaanxi to the west, and Inner Mongolia to the north. Shanxi's terrain is characterised by a plateau bounded partly by mountain ranges. Shanxi's culture is largely dominated by the ethnic Han majority, who make up over 99% of its population. Jin Chinese is considered by some linguists to be a distinct language from Mandarin, and its geographical range covers most of Shanxi. Both Jin and Mandarin are spoken in Shanxi.
Shanxi is a leading producer of coal in China, possessing roughly a fifth of China's total coal deposits. Nevertheless, Shanxi's GDP per capita remains below the national average.

It covers an area of 2,837 square kilometers (1,095.4 square miles), and its five main peaks, positioned east, south, west, north, and in the middle, embrace one another with broad and plain terraces rather than forests on their tops. That is why it bears the name Wutai Shan (Mountain of Five Terraces).

Visit of The Precariously Hanging Monastery of Mount Heng
Hengshan, or Mount Heng, which is located in Shanxi province, is one of China’s Five Great Mountains. Pinned to the side of its cliff face is the Xuan Kong Si, also known as the Hanging Monastery. Despite its precarious position, the monastery has been ‘hanging’ in its original position for more than 1,500 years, a testament to the ingenuity of its builders.
The Hanging Monastery is said to have been built in 491 AD, during the late Northern Wei Dynasty. It is commonly believed that the building of the monastery was initiated by a single individual, a monk by the name of Liao Ran. In time, however, Liao Ran received help from Taoist builders, who were drawn to the site due to its peaceful and serene atmosphere. The site was perfect for those engaged in meditation, as noises from the ground did not reach such lofty heights. In addition, its height ensured that the monastery was safe from floods. The Hanging Monastery is also protected from rain, snow and sun as it is sheltered by the mountain’s peak. This is one of the reasons for the monastery’s continual existence over the centuries.
Yungang Grottoes
Yungang Grottoes, one of the three major cave clusters in China, punctuate the north cliff of Wuzhou Mountain, Datong. The area was excavated along the mountain, extending 1 km (0.62 miles) from east to west, revealing 53 caves and over 51,000 stone statues. The grottoes are divided into east, middle, and west parts. Pagodas dominate the eastern parts; west caves are small and mid-sized with niches. Caves in the middle are made up of front and back chambers with Buddha statues in the center. Embossing covers walls and ceilings.Started in 450, the grottoes is a relic of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534). Absorbing Indian Gandhara Buddhist art, the sculptures here developed traditional Chinese art melded with social features of the time.During the reign of Emperor Xiao Wen a monk named Tanyao took charge of the construction of Yungang Grottoes. The largest cave is No.6, which is 20 meters (65.6 foot) high, standing a 15-meter (49.2-foot)-high pagoda-like column decorated with Buddha statues and designs. On the four sides of the tower pillar, and on the east, south and west walls of the cave, 33 embossed panels depict the story of Saykamuni.

Taiyuan
Taiyuan, Jinyang) is the capital and largest city of North China's Shanxi province. It is one of the main manufacturing bases of China. Throughout its long history, Taiyuan was the capital or provisional capital of many dynasties in China, hence the name Longcheng.

Ep.21-Wutai Mountain Temple Restoration -- BONTV
government of Shanxi Province has raised 70 million RMB for the reconstruction of 14 temples located on Wutai Mountain. Reconstruction of area is planned to last until October 2013. During this time, workers will rebuild drainage systems, set up monitors and smoke detectors, re-enforce building foundations, and touch up any paintings and sculptures in the area.
Wutai Mountain in Shanxi Province is considered to be one of four sacred mountains by Chinese Buddhists. The mountain has five sharp peaks, and is nick-named the five plateau Mountain. The northern section boasts the mountains highest peak, and stands at over 3,000 meters above sea level. A number of temples can be found in Taihuai county.
In 2008, Wutai Mountain was named a UNESCO world heritage site, not only for its beautiful scenery, but its historical and culturally significant temples. In Tibet, this place has been a centre for Tibetan Buddhists to spread their religion throughout inner China. During the 6th century, about 200 temples emerged around the area. And in the 7th century during the Tang Dynasty, the number reached to over 360. Nowadays, 68 temples and over 150 towers that were built during seven different dynasties still exist.
If you want to travel to Wutai Mountain, you can first fly to Taiyuan, the Capital of Shanxi Province, then take a bus to Taihuai County.
