Exploring Center Grove and Mooresville Indiana for our first home
FINDING HOME EPISODE #11 | Earlier this day we met with 3 different realtors to pick one to help us find our home.
One of them recommended a new part of Indianapolis suburbs to check out. She said that Center Grove was the Carmel of the south. Center Grove is a neighborhood in Greenwood.
We also checked out Mooresville and really liked that area :)
So why are we trying to find home?
In almost 7 years of marriage, we’ve traveled to all 50 states together and took one year to travel the world to 62 different countries.
Finally, we want to settle down and buy a home so we can start the adoption process as soon as possible!
The house prices in Colorado Springs caused us to broaden our search.
We want to find a home where the mortgage payments are closer to 20% of our take home pay - the recommended amount so you can still save, give, etc. and be completely debt free sooner.
We searched across the United States to find the best place for us to buy a home. In February 2019 we visited our top 2 states and chose Indiana :)

Old U.S. 36 | 2013 | Cameron, MO to near Utica, MO | Front
Come ride on the old highway bypassed in 1960! Starting in Cameron, we take Old U.S. 36 passing Hamilton, Nettleton,Breckenridge, and Mooresville to it's end near Utica. This is one of the longest orphaned roadway I have encountered that had not been renumbered by the state. Maintenance is minimal, and between Hamilton and Utica the road is almost impassable. Even the locals will take the newer highway.
Some of this route has been reused by other state highways, but most has been given back to the county for maintenance (though I had seen and videotaped MoDOT crews patching the road) and the county has little motivation to repair a lightly traveled road near a modern 4-Laned expressway. In that regard the road sports it's original pavement from the 1920's to 1930's and it's fun to think at one time you could go 70MPH down that road!
Currently this route is publicly owned and is open to traffic. If you have time to kill and don't mind dodging potholes or going like 20MPH then this road is a fun diversion for you.
MoDOT has some real old maps up online. Follow this link to see the maps here:
