Pioneer Village
This is part one of a three part Nebraska / Kansas series, about a trip my family took in, I believe, the fall of 1974.

Not from Wikipedia:
Toward the beginning of this, you can see my brother and myself coming out of a log cabin with a man and a woman. Julie asked who they are and I have no idea. It kinda looks like we're with them, but we aren't.
That little wall we're dicking around on is outside the motel where we stayed. We rarely stayed in motels when I was a kid, so that was a treat. We almost always camped. But, I think this trip took place in the fall so it might have been too cold to camp.
I've been looking at recent photos online of this place and very little has changed that I can see, including that odd color scheme on that locomotive: blood red and baby blue?
The thing that sticks out in my mind the most about the place and the one thing I'd want to see again is that steam powered merry-go-round. I very clearly remember my dad taking the shot of my mom on the carousel. She's telling my dad not to take the shot because it's too dark and it won't turn out. He's trying to get her to look at the camera, but she won't. Ah, memories.
Oh, and of course, every tourist attraction of this kind has to have a stockade or a jail or something to put your naughty relatives in, right? Watch as I demonstrate on how to put yourself in the stockade. Well, okay, not quite.
Thanks so much to my parents and my brother, without whom I would not be able to share these treasured films with you.
The music used is Cattails by Kevin MacLeod.

The Christmas City - Minden, Nebraska
Minden is known as Nebraska’s Christmas City for good reason. Beginning in 1915 when City Light Commissioner J.C. Haws aspired to impress the state convention of the G.A.R., lights were strung from the railroad depot to the town square. Weather problems prevented the lights’ use until Christmas time, when Haws found a new home for the lights: the courthouse dome! Now the spectacular Christmas Lights on the Kearney County Courthouse in Minden, NE can be seen for miles and have been a source of pride for the community and state. “The Light of the World” is a Christmas Pageant that is another source of pride and is performed by local residents on the sides of the courthouse square every year. Every performance is free of charge and culminates in the illumination of over 12,000 bulbs that adorn the courthouse and the square itself. What a site to see and experience! The pageant is held the Saturday after Thanksgiving and the first two Sundays in December.

Overlook: A Journey Through Nebraska's Unsung Beauty
“Overlook” is a tribute to Western Nebraska. Nebraska is known for it’s cows, crops and college football — my intent is to showcase the unique landscapes and dramatic skies that the panhandle has to offer.
I began production in 2016, but my urge to explore Nebraska’s panhandle came after a road trip in 2014. I shot hundreds of timelapse clips since my initial trip, and have narrowed it down to my favorite 25 scenes for this film.
Next time you are planning a trip, or driving down interstate 80, consider a short detour to these incredible locations.

Pioneer Courage Park in Omaha, Nebraska
Pioneer Courage Park in Omaha, Nebraska features a series of sculptures that depict the early pioneers on their dangerous trek westward from Omaha.
Five city blocks of downtown Omaha were transformed into this urban sculpture park, to pay tribute to the city's rich pioneer history.
Created by two Utah-based sculptors Blair Buswell and Ed Fraughton, it is one of the largest installations of bronze and stainless steel in the world.

Wyoming Pioneer Museum
Open year'round, the Pioneer Memorial Museum is located on the Wyoming State Fairgrounds in Douglas, Wyoming. The museum collects, preserves, interprets and displays historical and cultural materials related to the westward expansion, to Wyoming pioneers in particular and the west in general.
The first pioneer meetings began in 1884. Members had to be 21 years of age and either a resident of or doing business in Wyoming Territory prior to July 1, 1884. They began to meet annually in Douglas during the first Wyoming State Fair in 1905. The roster included cowboys, stockmen, freighters and soldiers. There were men and women who played an important role in achieving statehood for Wyoming. The Wyoming Pioneer Association was incorporated on January 8, 1926. Today the Wyoming Pioneer Association acts as an advisory board to the museum and has statewide and national membership. The State of Wyoming is responsible for the museum's operation and maintenance. Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites and Trails is celebrating its' 75th Anniversary. wyoparks.org.
