Concepcion Wreck. Mexico 4 Reales, 1641/0, “P”. Philip IV
A look at a cob recovered from the wreck of the Concepcion which sank in 1641 off the cost of Hispaniola ( Dominican Republic). This was a significant wreck serving the Spanish with a loss of over 100 tons of silver and gold treasure.
The coin is a small glimpse into this wreck, but we take a look more so for the proper attribution of the coin which was listed by the auctioneer and the salvors as a 1641, but is in favor a 1641/0, and or 41 over 40.
Assayer is Pedro Bezerra, the primary assayer for coins recovered from this wreck. The coin itself is of course dated, the year of the wreck making it a far more appealing coin.
Conception Island, Journey to the Ragged Islands, episode 10
I took this video while sailing from Long Island (The Bahamas) to
Rum cay, then to Conception Island. While freediving on the reef in the anchorage at Conception Island, I saw lots of tropical fish, including a wrasse picking parasites off a grouper. At the end of the video is a lemon shark swimming around checking me out. This video series supports my book Journey to the Ragged Islands, which is available at Amazon.com.

Mel Fisher, a dreamer, a visionary, a legend and most importantly, the World's Greatest Treasure Hunter! Mel Fisher did what many have not - he realized his dream during his lifetime. Everyday he insisted, Today's the Day!
