The greatest anchor of all time:
While we waited for our Leoapard 39 catamaran to get some work done we had a walk around town and went to the Pirates of Nassau Museum.
Danielle and Dean sold their home in suburbia with the plans of moving to a sailboat and sailing the Caribbean. As a test to see how their businesses run from a remote location, they moved to a cabin in the woods of northern Wisconsin. They enjoyed living there so much, the test run turned into two years of hiking, fishing, hunting, and outdoor fun.. Now, they're on their way to an adventure at sea. Along with enjoying their ups and downs on the waves, you can follow along as Dean takes on the challenge of catching major fish species and Danielle explores the world of beauty from the perspective of different cultures.

Pirates Museum of Nassau Bahamas
Stowaway aboard the pirate ship Revenge and explore the lower decks. Discover what life was really like at sea in 1716 among swinging hammocks, stowed cannon, volatile gambling sessions and on-board surgery under the ship's carpenter! The Golden Age of Piracy lasted for thirty years, from 1690 to 1720 and Nassau was at its heart. Here was a tropical pirate Paradise, which attracted the greatest concentration of pirates ever seen in the New World.
Nassau was well suited as a pirate base of operations, its waters were too shallow for a large man-of-war but deep enough for the fast shallow draft vessels favoured by pirates. From their snug harbour they could employ their hit and run tactics to full effect; they devastated merchant shipping that plied the trade routes just a short sail away. Their pirate gold and goods formed the basis of a thriving community that attracted rogues, merchants and wild women from far and wide.
Begin your journey by exploring a twilit quayside where the smell of tar and sea water mingle in the still evening. Hear the water lap gently against the dark wooden ship. In the tavern close by, her crew celebrate with fiddle and song the capture of a rich prize, laden with Spanish gold.

Tour ATLANTIS RESORT & downtown NASSAU, BAHAMAS including the PIRATE MUSEUM
Hey there, Dave here at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas discovering the best things to see and do at the resort and in downtown Nassau. I review of some of the best attractions at Atlantis like the Aquaventure water park and predator aquarium. Also, the best things to see and do outside of the resort in downtown Nassau. Preview the pirate museum, the national art gallery of the Bahamas, St Francis Xavier Cathedral, the Greycliff cigar factory, tropical drinks on Junkanoo beach, and a Junkanoo parade at the Atlantis marina village.
BOTTOM LINE
- Atlantis isn’t cheap. We stayed at the lowest cost section at the time we booked which was at the Beach near the marina — still over $300/night
- Worth it? Depends on what you’re looking for
- This is a great family vacation spot
- The water park is amazing
- Hotel booking includes waterpark access... without staying at the resort, a day-pass costs $100+ for kids $150+ for adults (price varies by season)
- If NOT on family vacation, it’s a little too kid-centric
- Getting same-day dinner reservations for a group is a challenge — we ended up eating at 9pm or later every night
- The whole Atlantis resort seems like a big facade — like they dropped Las Vegas into the Bahamas
- Disney and lots of other cruise ships drop people off here — Atlantis and parts of Nassau are overrun with tourists
WHAT IS THERE TO DO OFF THE RESORT GROUNDS?
- Pirate museum is a highlight
- National Art Gallery of the Bahamas is inside a historic building
- Attempted to check out the library but it was closed
- The part of downtown where cruise ships drop off is definitely an area to avoid
- A highlight was the Love Shack and other casual beachside spots on Junkanoo beach
STAY TUNED
- In my next video, we’ll be boarding a private yacht to island hop. Rough life, I know. So be sure to SUBSCRIBE!
