Notorious for dicey weather at all times of year, but mud, mud and more mud proved quite the challenge.

Te ARAROA NZ HARDEST TRAIL SECTION in the NORTH ISLAND?
TA Levin to Waikanae Section
Thru Hike via the Tararua Ranges in New Zealand.
I completed the hike in 4 days.
Trail 71km long.
This section involves forest and alpine terrain with many steep ascents and descents.
From talking to other thru hikers completing the TA say this section of the TA is the slowest and hardest in the North Island. And the weather plays a big part as notorious for deteriorating rapidly.
Trail notes below

2018 Mt Pirongia Family Tramp
This was a challenging overnight hike we did with our kids and some family friends. We parked our cars and climbed up the Hihikiwi track on the Southern side of the mountain. Overnight we stayed in the new 40 bunk hut on the crater rim. The new hut has excellent views across to Kawhia Harbour and the lights of Hamilton can be seen from the toilet at night. On a frosty mornings I have seen Mt Taranaki and Mt Ruapehu from the helicopter pad near the hut. We met some other trampers in the hut and gave them our car keys so that they could drive our cars around to where their cars were parked at the Grey Road carpark on the Northern side of the mountain. This allowed us to traverse the mountain via Tirohanga and Ruapane.
Mount Titiraupenga Pureora Forest Park New Zealand
my editing is still a work in progress , when you attempt this track please be aware there are no signs and a long gravel road, on the way is the great 1 hour Rimu walk with lots of huge trees and the Centre of the North Island, The summit walk does no longer exist , travel safe, have respect for the place and have human company . on a fine day you can overlook the waikato to national park, this video is from Winter 2019 #BreakTheChainNow

Okura bush walkway
Okura Bush Walkway is situated close to Whangaparoa on Auckland's North shore, only about 28km from Auckland's CBD.
The track starts at the Haigh Access Road entrance and passes through coastal kauri forest along the Okura River estuary up to the historic Dacre Cottage, roughly 4.2km one way. From there we followed the coastal walk back which can only be done on low tide.
This is a very popular walkway that passes through regenerating
coastal kauri forest along the Okura River estuary, you will find a cleaning station at the start of the track to help fight against kauri dieback, please take the time to clean your gear.
Its a well maintained track that includes a lot of steps and some timber broad walks to protect the kauri roots. The track ends at Karepiro Bay, from there its just a short beach walk to the historic Dacre Cottage. Stick to the track and stay well away from nesting birds.
The Dacre Cottage was built in the 1850's and was used as an abattoir at some point, but during the early 1980's it had deteriorated through neglect and vandalism but
was restored in 1984 by voluntary labour.
The grounds are available for use as not just a picnic spot, but for overnight camping as well, for more information please follow the link below:
