Pondicherry | Auroville | Pichavaram mangrove forest trip | Tamil nadu | India
Pondicherry (or Puducherry), a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is now a Union Territory town bounded by the southeastern Tamil Nadu state. Its French legacy is preserved in its French Quarter, with tree-lined streets, mustard-colored colonial villas and chic boutiques. A seaside promenade runs along the Bay of Bengal and passes several statues, including a 4m-high Gandhi Memorial.
Auroville is a small town 6 km north of Pondicherry. This town was a vision of The Mother from Sri Aurobindo Ashram at Pondicherry as it's an international town. She envisioned a town where unity will be celebrated and all will have a spiritual vocation. At the moment, in July 2010, 2200 people from 43 different countries are living in the city. About 40% are Indians (more than 15% are French and 15% are German).Auroville is an experimental community in southern India. It was founded in 1968 by the spiritual leader Mirra Alfassa as a town where people from all over the world could live in harmony. Its focal point is the Matrimandir, a futuristic, spherical temple covered in gold discs. Auroville Botanical Gardens protects the region’s tropical dry evergreen forest. Auroville Beach is a long sandy stretch with gentle surf.
Pichavaram the second largest Mangrove forest in the world, near the temple town of Chidambaram, is one of the unique Eco-tourism spots in South India. Pichavaram - Wonder of India
Pichavaram is beautiful backwater with mangrove forest. It is exciting and enjoying experience to move in a boat preferably hand boat. It moves slowly you can capture photos and videos. It is 15 kms from chidambaram (TN) and 75 kms from Pondichery. This 2800 acre mangrove forest is second biggest in the world. It is entirely different experience than well known Alleppey backwater. Don't Miss this to visit. Don't forget to Send me thanks.
