Family bringing Pitchford Hall back to life
Pitchford Hall, near Shrewsbury, has lain derelict and unloved for more than two decades. But this has not put off 45-year-old Rowena Colthurst, her husband James Nason nor their three children, Georgiana, 11, Serena, five, and Edward, four, who are restoring it to its former glory
Historic Houses - Pitchford Hall
The owners of Pitchford Hall, Rowena Colthurst and James Nason, discuss their plans to restore the beautiful estate to its former glory.
Described as Britain’s finest half-timbered house, Pitchford Hall was owned by the Colthurst family for more than 500 years before being sold in 1992. Now on the ‘at Risk’ register, the house has been bought back by Rowena and James who are embarking on the massive task of saving it, following 25 years of neglect.

The Tree With The House In It/The Pitchford Chronicles
Hidden away, enclosed by the gentle hills of Shropshire and the rugged peaks of Wales, rests the ancient village of Pitchford. The village's heart and the hearts of its dwellers belong to the old manor house, built from mellow timber and love. Amongst the lime trees that amble over the lawns, is one tree that stands alone.
The Tree With The House In It
.
The tree has stood resolute since the time of the Magna Carta. It has survived damaging winds, destructive storms, droughts and floods. The little house smiles with memories of the joyful laughter of generations of children, and the secret love of courting couples. It is said that the tree harbours mystical powers, borne from centuries of wisdom and knowledge.
It is 1832 and the lives of Lady Louisa, a carefree and compassionate rebel; Noah, a confident and loveable Kale gypsy; Sarah, a lady's maid and Joseph a handsome groom, unexpectedly weave together. They each find themselves on a voyage of adventure, elation, romance and sorrow. Ultimately, their actions invoke a local curse which affects the destiny of the future Queen of the British Empire.

Another station that I finally managed to get my hands on after wanting to go for a long time and we find ourselves on the Welsh border and standing, quite literally, over the River Severn at Shrewsbury station.
Here we see a collection of London Midland and Arriva Trains Wales stock heading to a variety of destinations including Birmingham New Street, Manchester Piccadilly and Holyhead
Also look out for a very special, emotional and last appearance ever from Wrexham and Shropshire as they depart in a blaze of glory, heading for London Marylebone.

THE GLORIOUS DAYS OF EXPRESS STEAM TRAIN
Although British Rail scrapped its own steam locomotives en 1968, after nearly 150 years service, around 1000 engines of all sizes were preserved and many of these can be seen today in working order. This programme looks at surviving examples of the most glamorous of them all –the express passenger stem locomotive.
We illustrate the development of these prestigious engines, from the pioneering designs of the 19th century, to the last examples from the 1950s, when it was still every schoolboy’s dream to be an engine at work, either on privately-owned railways, or in charge of main line and custom-made material of the highest quality, none of which has
been broadcast before.
