उत्तराखंड के सोरघाटी पिथौरागढ़ में स्थित, किला अपने आप में इतिहास समेटे हुए है. जिसे 18 वीं सदी में गोरखा शासकों द्वारा निर्मित किया गया था. जिसका नाम बाउलिकीगढ़ रखा गया... 1815 में सुगौली की संधी के बाद ब्रिटिश शासन काल में इस किले का नाम बदल कर लन्दन फोर्ट रख दिया गया.... वर्तमान में किले का सौन्दर्यीकरण कर, इसे पर्यटन मानचित्र में पेश करने की तैयारी की जा रही है....

History Of Pithoragarh - पिथौरागढ़ का इतिहास

Pithoragarh is a western Himalayan town with a Municipal Board in Pithoragarh district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.
It is the largest unorganised village cluster in the hills of Uttarakhand. This place is strategically important from defense point of view for India as the district shares international boundaries with China and Nepal.

The district is named after its headquarters town, Pithoragarh. Tradition has it that during the reign of the Chand Rajas of Kumaon, one Piru, also called Prithvi Gosain, built a fort here and named it Prithvigarh which, in the course of time, got changed to Pithoragarh.

छोटा कश्मीर के नाम से मशहूर शहर पिथौरागढ़ के बीचों बीच स्तिथ यह गोरखा कालीन किला जिसे लंदन फोर्ट या बाउल की गड के नाम से जाना जाता है, 1789 में जब गोरखावों ने हस्तिदलचोतरिया एवं गोरखा वीर खड़क बहादुर की अगुवाई में कमाऊं पर आक्रमण किया तो हवालबाग के छोटे से युद्ध मे चंद वंशीय राजा महेंद्र चंद को पराजित किया तो कमाऊं में उनका अधिकार हो गया। तब गोरखाओं के द्वारा इस किले का नाम बाउल की गड रखा गया था। उसके पश्चात 1815 में जब अंग्रेजो ने गोरखाओं को पराजित किया तो सुगौली की संधि के बाद कमाऊं पर अंग्रेजों का अधिकार हो गया और उन्होंने इस किले का नाम बदलकर लंदन फोर्ट कर दिया। 1881 से इस स्थान पर तहसील थी जिसे अब यहां से हटा कर इस किले को अब पर्यटन को बढ़ावा देने हेतु इस किले को विकसित किया गया है।

Independence Day Celebration in Pithoragarh | School Rally | City Pithoragarh

73वें स्वतंत्रता दिवस के मौके पर पिथौरागढ़ शहर में विभिन्न सरकारी व गैर सरकारी स्कूलों के बच्चों द्वारा स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में शहीद आन्दोलनकारियों और शहीद सैनिकों की जयकार में एक रैली का आयोजन किया गया. देशप्रेम के गीतों के माध्यम से बच्चों ने शहर में सभी को देशभक्ति, भाईचारे और एकता का संदेश दिया.

रैली की शुरूआत माननीय जिलाधिकारी डॉ विजय कुमार जोगडंडे द्वारा हरी झंडी दिखाकर की गई. इस मौके पर शहर के सभी प्रमुख विद्यालयों के साथ साथ 24 UK Girls Bn NCC Almora के कैडेट्स ने भी प्रतिभाग किया.
स्वतंत्रता दिवस पर बच्चों में जोश और उल्लास जमकर देखा गया. बच्चों के बीच देशप्रेम की इस भावना ने शहर को देशभक्ति के रंग में रंग दिया. हाथों में तिरंगा, जुबान में वंदे मातरम् के नारे, और दिल से देश की आजादी का जश्न मनाते इन सभी बच्चों ने इस रैली को सफल बनाया.

Pithoragarh is at 29.58°N 80.22°E.[2] It has an average elevation of 1,514 metres(4,967 feet).[3][4] It is situated in Soar Valley. The valley is spread across around 50 square kilometers.

The district is named after its headquarters town, Pithoragarh. Tradition has it that during the reign of the Chand Rajas of Kumaon, one Piru, also called Prithvi Gosain, built a fort here and named it Prithvigarh which, in the course of time, got changed to Pithoragarh.[3]

Kailash Ashram in the suburb of Wadda. The ashram is run by Mahamandaleshwar Santoshi Maa, who has her akhada in Haridwar. Every year around April, there is a yagna organised with grandeur.

Chandak Reserve Forest , 7 kilometers from city centre. . Leopard sighting is common during night.

Mostamanu Temple is famous among locales for serenity and scenic beauty.

Maharajke Park is situated in cantonment area. During 1965 Indo-Pak war, Soldiers of Kumaon Regiment captured the Pakistani post of Maharajke in Jammu and Kashmir. This park is constructed in remembrance of the Shahids of that operation.

Kapileshwar Mahadev Temple is situated on top of kapileshwar hill. I Temple has a 10 meter long cave.

Thal Kedar Temple is located at approximately 18 kilometers from city centre. Banj Oak trees are in abundance here. This forest is home to Asiatic black bears and Himalayan leopards.
