Pitons in St. Lucia, Choiseul (Saint Lucia) - Travel Guide
Take a tour of Pitons in St. Lucia in Choiseul, Saint Lucia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
On the southwest coast of the island of Saint Lucia two tall, pointed mountains rise out of the sea like a pair of shark's teeth.
These are the Pitons, two volcanic plugs that still have active sulfur vents and hot mud pools.
The two peaks are known as the Gros, meaning large, Piton and the Petit, meaning small, Piton.
The waters near the mountains are beautiful, clear, and surrounded by coral reefs teeming with life.
This richness of living things extends onto land as well, with thick, colorful rain forests, full of many species of animals.
The Pitons are responsible for the lush surroundings; the fertile volcanic ash and soil intermingle to provide this unique tropical environment.

Review
We booked this trip by contacting Cosol Tours via email. All the information on the website was highly informative and the owner, Nereus, was very happy to answer questions promptly via email. We were met along with about 20 other people from our cruise liner and were introduced to our drivers for the day. We were very pleased to be placed with Livingstone as we had our own new clean air conditioned vehicle and private guide for the day with other passengers. There were a large number of appropriate stops for photos, food tastings (a huge array of foods for breakfast both sweet and savory), rum tastings(!) Piton Beer all fruit drinks all FREE flowed at will. Stops at banana plantation, BEST BANANA EVER ! drive in volcano, mud baths, waterfall, speedy water taxi to a private beach at the foot of the Pitons for an hour's free time to allow for snorkeling or sunbathing. Other Cosol vans in the group stopped at the agreed places and we met up regularly with the 'party bus' which carried local Piton beer, amazing rum punch, spiced rum, water and sodas. We were all in a great mood it has to be said! Nereus himself even stopped by to meet with us and make sure we were all happy before we continued with the trip. I would give our driver, Livingstone, five stars as he was friendly and informative and very efficient at getting us back to our cruise ship in time despite the heavy traffic. On the way back we stopped at a local bakery for hot bread and cheese before returning to our cruise ship tired but very happy. The trip is advertised as 5-6 hours, but may take longer. This trip is excellent value and such fun, professional and amazing value -- don't hesitate to book it!
Exploring St Lucia with Cosol Tours
I have been to many of the Caribbean islands and they have been beautiful...... each with their own personality, but I'm going to have to say that I have truly fallen in love with St Lucia.
My daughter and I booked our excursion with Cosol Tours. They met us just outside of the cruise port where they divided everyone into groups. Each group left with our guide where we boarded an air conditioned minibus.
This was one of the most amazing tours I have ever been on and probably why I fell so in love with St Lucia. The whole tour lasted around 6 hours and is the best way to see the island.
We saw banana plantations, stopped at breathtaking lookout points, ate local food, took a water taxi to the Pitons, ate some of the best homemade bread, and played in mud.

Take a walk around Pointe Seraphine in Castries, St Lucia.
Saint Lucia is an island nation in the Caribbean. It is part of the Windward Islands in the Lesser Antilles of the Eastern Caribbean. St Lucia was named after Saint Lucy of Syracuse by French sailors that were shipwrecked on the island.
St Lucia is known for its volcanic terrain, clear blue waters, lush greenery, and white sand beaches. Saint Lucia’s two volcanic peaks, the Pitons consisting of the Gros Piton and Petit Piton are among the island’s most notable features.
St Lucia was inhabited by the Caribs before becoming colonized by the British and the French. St Lucia gained its independence from Britain on February 22 1979. The independent state is now a member of the Commonwealth with the English crown being represented by the Governor General. Read more on this here:
St Lucia is a member of the Commonwealth, Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Organization of American States (OAS), United Nations (UN), and World Trade Organization (WTO).
The capital of St Lucia is Castries. Points of interest in St Lucia include the Hewanorra House, Heraldine Rock Building, King George V Gardens, Parliament of St Lucia, Bideau Park, Constitution Park, Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC), Bank of St Lucia, Government House, The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission, Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), Inniskilling Monument, Soufriere, Morne Coubaril Estate, Sulphur Springs, Balenbouche Estate, Pigeon Island, the Pitons, and Fort Rodney. Breathtaking views of St Lucia can be seen from Fort Rodney.
The headquarters of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) are located in St Lucia.

St. Lucia Caribbean Vacation - Hiking the Pitons
This year we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving in St Lucia, escaping Michigan's winter weather. The highlight of our trip to St. Lucia was hiking the Pitons (Gros Piton). Our local driver said we were crazy and while that might be true the view was worth it. Luckily we had a nice breeze during our climb, it's known to get uncomfortably hot. If anyone sees our guide Elvin, please tell him that we said hi!
We stayed at James Club Morgan Bay, Saint Lucia, though we've heard good things about the Sandals resorts as well. A piece of advice for those traveling to Saint Lucia, use the excursions offered by locals near your beach vs buying them through the resort. Ask around, it's likely other guests already gave them a try. Please feel free to share the details about your St. Lucia vacation in the comments.

Chris on Cruise … St.Lucia, „Castries“ und „Schnorcheln an den Pitons“
St. Lucia, 09.12.2017

SAINT LUCIA VACATION | Climbing Gros Piton in Soufrière
That's the second time I’m climbing Gros Piton. It was out last week in St.Lucia and we decided that we should do the climb on the weekend before we head back to Europe. It is definitely a MUST DO for anyone in St. Lucia or visiting! ⛰????????
We did the video because we want to show how the trail really is, so that if you are to go and climb it you have some expectations. This idea came about after we asked a few people to join us, but they thought it is too dangerous. I was a bit shocked when I heard that as I had climbed it before and it is a shaded track, with steps and railings at some parts.
Our friendly tour guide Kevin from the Soufriere Regional Foundation told us more about the trail and how to stay safe when climbing Gros Piton. The Foundation is a non-profit and is established by the people of Soufriere to promote, encourage, support, facilitate and coordinate local development initiatives in the Soufriere region. It is doing great at conserving and the Gros Piton Nature Trail. Check them out here

We are staying in Marigot Bay and I will discover all the surroundings. In the small villages I also meet some local Caribbean people, you will also hear a little bit of the local language Creole and in the end of the video you will see me climb up to the Gros Piton of Saint Lucia.
