Pitti Palace tour in Florence
Florence, Italy: Medici Sights
More info about travel to Florence: Florence, Italy, was the epicenter of the Renaissance, the cultural explosion that propelled Europe out of the Middle Ages and into an economic, intellectual, and artistic boom time. Wealth from the Medici family is largely responsible for funding many of the city’s Renaissance icons, including Brunelleschi’s dome and Michelangelo’s David.

Firenze - Galleria Palatina a Palazzo Pitti - Palatine Gallery in the Pitti Palace

Italy, Florence - Boboli gardens (Palazzo Pitti)
Photographer:Samuel Magal (samuel@sites-and-photos.com)
The Boboli Gardens were laid out for Eleonora di Toledo, the wife of Cosimo I de' Medici. The name is a curruption of Bogoli, a family from whom land had been bought to construct the garden. The first stage was scarcely begun by Niccolò Tribolo before he died in 1550, then was continued by Bartolomeo Ammanati, with contributions in planning from Giorgio Vasari, who laid out the grottos, and in sculpture by Bernardo Buontalenti. The elaborate architecture of the grotto in the courtyard that separates the palace from its garden is by Buontalenti.
PALAZZO VECCHIO-MEDIEVAL FORTRESS ON THE OUTSIDE; RENAISSANCE PALACE ON THE INSIDE!
The Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) in Florence, Italy looks like a defensive fortification on the outside, but inside are beautifully decorated halls, apartments, and chapels. The highlight is the magnificent Hall of 500 (Salone dei Cinquecento), a meeting hall where both Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci once worked side-by-side in a competition to paint two battle murals! For reasons that you will hear, neither of these works survived. You will also see the inside of Arnolfo's Tower as we climb to the top to see magnificent views of Florence. There are also elegantly decorated apartments and halls of royalty, some of which were created for the powerful Medici family. The death mask of the famous Italian poet Dante is also here. Amazingly, in the basement of the Palazzo Vecchio, you can see the ruins of a 1st century Roman theater. Interestingly, even today the Palazzo Vecchio continues to function as a city hall. As you will see, the Palazzo Vecchio is definitely one of the must-visit highlights of Florence, Italy.

Флоренция: Палаццо Питти/Florence: Pitti Palace
The Palazzo Pitti (or Pitti Palace) is a Renaissance palace in the Italian city of Florence, which initially was the residence of a banker named Luca Pitti but was later bought by the city's ruling Medici family. The vast palace was bought by the Medici family in 1549 from a Florentine banker Buonaccorso Pitti. Giorgio Vasari enlargened the palace, added the famous Vasari Corridor and the palace served as the main residence of the Florentine rulers until 1871.
The wife of Cosimo I de' Medici commissioned the Medici court artist Niccolò Tribolo to design a large park on the Boboli hill behind the palace. Bartolomeo Ammannati continued with his work after Tribolo's death and also created a large courtyard which links the palace and the garden.
Today it is the largest museum complex in Florence. It houses the Palatine Gallery with 28 rooms filled with Renaissance paintings by Raphael, Titian or Rubens. You can also visit the Royal Apartments that were used by the Medici family and their successors. Some of the rooms were turned into a gallery of modern art which displays mainly artworks of the Macchiaioli movement.
The complex also includes the Silver Museum, Porcelain Museum, Costume Gallery and Carriages Museum.

Pitti Palace, Florence Italy - July 2019
The Palazzo Pitti, in English sometimes called the Pitti Palace, is a vast, mainly Renaissance, palace in Florence, Italy. It is situated on the south side of the River Arno, a short distance from the Ponte Vecchio
Florence: The Pitti Palace - Palatine Gallery and Boboli Gardens
Had Had Lucca Pitti not been as rich as he was, or as ostentatious as he was, we would not have this glorious palace or gardens to visit. His goal was to have the biggest and best palace in Florence, and he succeeded.
This Palazzo is like most palaces, overly decorated with gold everywhere. What is different though is that it has a gallery with some of the best art any palace has to offer: The Palatine. It includes works by Lippi, a few Botticellis and five or six Raphaels, including his Madonna del Granduca, his Madonna of the Stairs, and La Donna Veltata, a portrait of the baker’s daughter with whom Raphael was smitten.
Also see The Grotto of The Boboli Gardens, which is often closed.
360 video: View of Pitti Palace, Florence, Italy
Located directly behind the Pitti Palace, these peaceful gardens are also a fascinating open-air museum with a collection of sculptures ranging from the 16th to 18th centuries.
The gardens were designed for Eleonora di Toledo, the wife of Cosimo I de' Medici, who chose the Pitti Palace as their new residence. The sculptures were added in the 17th century and the gardens continued to be enlargened until the 19th century.
The highlights include the Amphitheatre with statues inspired by Roman myths. The Egyptian Obelisk was brought from Luxor and erected here in 1789. The house of the Lorraine was added in the 18th century as well together with the Kaffeehaus, the Lemon House, and the Palazzina della Meridiana. Neptune's Fountain is located above the amphitheater.
Buy your ticket online to avoid long lines. The ticket allows entry to the Porcelain Museum, the Silver Museum, the Museum of Costume and the Bardini Gardens.

Inside Pitti Palace, Florence, Italy.
Palazzo Pitti in Florence Italy
The Palazzo Pitti, in English sometimes called the Pitti Palace, is a vast mainly Renaissance palace in Florence, Italy. It is situated on the south side of the River Arno, a short distance from the Ponte Vecchio. The core of the present palazzo dates from 1458 and was originally the town residence of Luca Pitti, an ambitious Florentine banker. It was bought by the Medici family in 1539 and later became the chief residence of the ruling families of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
In the 19th century, the palazzo, by then a great treasure house, was used as a power base by Napoleon, and later served for a brief period as the principal royal palace of the newly-united Italy. In the early 20th century, the palazzo together with its contents was given to the Italian people by King Victor Emmanuel III; subsequently its doors were opened to the public as one of Florence's largest art galleries. Today, housing several minor collections in addition to those of the Medici family, it is fully open to the public.
