Paddling Pittwater beaches
A great place to paddle is Pittwater 1hr north of Sydney. I explored the beaches on the northern side which is a national park and can only be reached by boat or bushwalkers. This was a weekday in May perfect weather and no one around, magical paddling....and a great day out. So if the rat race is all getting too much for you buy a kayak (the cheapest way to get out onto the water). So close to Sydney yet you feel you are a million miles away, truly...great for the spirit, I have paddled here with dolphins... but didn't have the camera. Enjoy the magic of Pittwater beaches but there is so much more to see and I'll show you that next time. If you love nature, birds, peace and quiet or just being out on the water, keep watching as I'll sure you many other great places to paddle within 3 hrs of Sydney.

Pittwater YHA Kayaking
Pittwater is just North of Sydney and is part of the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park. Pittwater YHA is a great little gem, with fantastic views and lovely hostel accommodation it a must for any backpacker. On the weekend I visited, it was running a Bush Regeneration project or weeding project. The idea being you stayed at the hostel and weeding invasive plants for four hours a day and then you got the afternoon off to do what you liked. Opt-ing to go kayaking, both afternoons I went out with two fellow volunteers both days over the weekend.
The kayaking was fantastic. The water was warm and full of sea creatures, from jellyfish to sting rays. Just a great place to visit as you will see from the video.
Pittwater YHA

Palm Beach + Barrenjoey Lighthouse Day Trip | Australia
Here's another video from my Australia trip in August 2018. It was winter in Australia but this day was a bit warmer. Water was still too cold at the Palm Beach though.
We took an hour bus from Manly to Palm Beach and hiked our way up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse for some spectacular views. This was on a Sunday and the Opal card is capped at AUD 2.70. Best day of the week to travel.
This was just taken using my android phone so pardon the quality.

A 75cm flattie we got at Pittwater (my mistake, a dusky of course) I was using my mates rod and plastic after I just finished rigging it :o) Oh and by the way my mate said 'to big for the plate' meaning large flathead aren't as nice to eat, well this girl wasn't in danger of being eaten anyway ;o)

PITTWATER KINGFISH
Just a couple of rat king fish caught in Pittwater
Sea kayaking along Sydney's northern beaches: red algae and an inquisitive shark
During a sea kayak trip from Narrabeen to Mooney Mooney, Sydney: red algae, nudged by a shark and jelly fish. The shark swam alongside me for about 5 minutes, then got more bold. The tip of its dorsal fin can be seen just to the left of the bow of the kayak at 5 secs, again very brieflly coming at the kayak on the right, at 10 seconds. At 29 seconds it hit my paddle - causing me to miss-stroke and hit the deck - you can hear the clunk.
