Place Royale in Quebec is the centre of the Lower Town and at the same time the starting point of the French settlement in North America. Medieval dressed artisans and street performers mingle with the tourists. Here you can experience, why Quebec is the most popular city for tourists in North America.
The middle of the Place Royale adorns a bust of Ludwig the XIV, in whose honour the place was named.
In the little church of Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, a priest encouraged us to take a little bread. The church is dedicated to the patroness of Paris, Geneviève. Many legends entwine around her, but it is undisputed that she was strongly committed to the poor and needy. During the siege of Paris by Frankish tribes at the end of the 5th Century, a famine broke out. Geneviève organized a ship convoy in order to bring wheat from Champagne to Paris. Free bread was given to the poor. This event is commemorated by the church of Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, as a sign that you should also share with the needy in the good times.
By small parks and through narrow streets, from which Château Frontenac appears in ever new perspectives, we come back to the hotel.

Der Place Royale in Quebec ist der Mittelpunkt der unteren Stadt und zugleich der Ausgangspunkt der französischen Besiedelung Nordamerikas. Mittelalterlich gekleidete Handwerker und Straßenkünstler mischen sich unter die Touristen. Hier erlebt man, warum Québec die beliebteste Stadt für Touristen in Nordamerika ist.
Die Mitte des Place Royale schmückt eine Büste von Ludwig dem XIV., dem zu Ehren der Platz benannt wurde.
In der kleinen Kirche Notre-Dame-des-Victoires ermutigt uns ein Priester, das ausgelegte Brot mitzunehmen. Die Kirche ist der Schutzheiligen von Paris Geneviève geweiht. Viele Legenden ranken sich um sie, doch unbestritten ist, dass sie sich stark für Arme und Hilfsbedürftige engagierte. Sie organisierte, als während einer Belagerung von Paris durch fränkische Stämme zu Ende des 5. Jh. eine Hungersnot ausbrach, einen Schiffskonvoi, der Weizen aus der Champagne nach Paris brachte. Die Armen erhielten Brot kostenlos. An dieses Ereignis will man in der Kirche Notre-Dame-des-Victoires erinnern, zum Zeichen, dass man auch in guten Zeiten mit Bedürftigen teilen soll.
Durch kleine Parks und durch enge Gässchen, aus denen Château Frontenac aus immer wieder neuen Perspektiven auftaucht, gelangen wir zurück zum Hotel.

Not far from the port area in Quebec City, there is a 4,665 square meter mural, La Fresque des Quebecois which depicts the 400-year history of Quebec. I knew I was approaching the square as I rounded the corner. I had accidentally set my camera to video and I'm glad I did. The Place Royale is a place of Quebec which is accessed by Notre Dame , the blessed Bread Street and Lane Place.
Located in the Lower Town in the Historic District of Old Quebec; it is considered the oldest French establishment in America 1. It is at the center of the heritage site of Habitation-Samuel-De Champlain 2, classified in 2008, which corresponds to the site of the founding of Québec.
There is Notre-Dame-des-Victoires church., the oldest stone church in North America. This majestic church of yesteryear has a depth of about 33 meters, a width of about 26 meters and a height of forty meters.
