Depuis les cafés de la place, on se pâme devant ce chef-d‘œuvre néoclassique ! Le Capitole, dont la configuration actuelle date de 1848, abrite aujourd'hui la mairie mais aussi un théâtre ! Les visiteurs peuvent admirer la cour Henri IV, la salle des Illustres ou le fastueux escalier d'honneur !
Un détour s'impose également par le n°3 de la place du Capitole : ce lieu atypique de 400 m2 programme régulièrement de belles expositions d'art contemporain.

Toulouse's magnificent main square is the city's literal and metaphorical heart, where Toulousiens turn out en masse on sunny evenings to sip a coffee or an early aperitif at a pavement cafe. On the eastern side is the 128m-long façade of the Capitole, the city hall, built in the 1750s. Inside is the Théâtre du Capitole, one of France's most prestigious opera venues, and the over-the-top, late 19th-century Salle des Illustres (Hall of the Illustrious). To the south of the square is the city's Vieux Quartier (Old Quarter), a tangle of lanes and leafy squares brimming with cafes, shops and eateries.
The Place du Capitole one of the central squares in the city of Toulouse; in many ways it is the beating heart of the city. Lined with impressive buildings on all sides, the square is notable for the Occitan cross that stands tall in its centre. Since as far back as the Antiquity this square has been a bustling crossroad for communities living in the area, though under many different names. It has been known as the Place du Capitole since 1848.
The square is frequently a venue for major events within the city.
Developed in the 19th century, the Place du Capitole is modeled after the famous square in Madrid. It covers two hectares, making it the city’s largest square and focal point for many public events in Toulouse. A thorough redesigning and restructuring in 1995 allowed space for pedestrians, yet maintained the square’s traditional and historical grace. Restaurants and cafés line three sides of the square, and each side gives a splendid view of the famous pink stone building, formerly a Grand Palace, that now serves as the Capitole.
The Capitole is an impressive building whose neo-classical façade and pink marble columns were completed in 1760 after ten years of construction. Beginning that year, it served as the head office of the old town magistrates. The original 1189 building sat in the same location and ruled Toulouse throughout the Middle Ages. It was also the death place of the assassinated Duc de Montmorency in 1632.
Today the Capitole houses the Theatre National du Capitole, built in 1736, and the Town Hall. The works of local 19th century artists such as Jean-Paul Laurens or Henri Martin are displayed in the Henri-IV courtyard. Nearby, Toulouse celebrities are honored in the Hall of Fame. The doors open out onto the Place de la Capitole, embraced by red-brick buildings and the mark of the Toulouse Cross, a symbol of the town's historic past.

The Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse is an opera house located within the main administration buildings, the Capitole, of the city of Toulouse in south-west France. It houses an opera company, ballet company and symphony orchestra, Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse.
The first performance space, a salle du jeu de spectacle, was created in the building in 1736 by Guillaume Cammas. Following a period of neglect, the current space was created during the rebuild of 1818. The theatre suffered fire damage in 1917, but was restored in 1923. The front of house areas were modernised in 1996. The current capacity is 1156 seats.
Michel Plasson was responsible for the artistic direction of the company from 1973. He was followed by Jacques Doucet in 1981, by Nicolas Joel in 1991, and by Frédéric Chambert in 2009, after Joel's move to the Opéra national de Paris. Chambert's first season was marked by the use of alternate spaces while the theatre was renovated, and the theatre was re-opened for the beginning of the 2010-11 season. The opera company is a member of the Réunion des Opéras de France.

Toulouse, La cité des violettes and the capital of the Midi-Pyrénées region, is a city in the Haute-Garonne department in southwestern France. It lies on the banks of the River Garonne, 150 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea and 300 from the Atlantic Ocean. the Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in France, after Paris, Lyon, and Marseille.
Toulouse is the centre of the European aerospace industry. The city also hosts the largest cancer research centre in Europe.
A city with a typical architecture of Southern France, Toulouse has two historic sites added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Canal Du Midi (shared with other cities), since 1996, and the Basilica of St. Sernin.
