Battle of Shiroyama 1877 ( 城山の戦い ) Satsuma Rebellion | Total War Shogun 2 Historical Epic Battle
The Battle of Shiroyama (城山の戦い Shiroyama no tatakai) took place on 24 September 1877, in Kagoshima, Japan. It was the final battle of the Satsuma Rebellion, where the heavily outnumbered samurai under Saigō Takamori made their last stand against Imperial Japanese Army troops under the command of Generals Yamagata Aritomo and Kawamura Sumiyoshi. The battle culminated in the annihilation of Saigō's army as well as his death, marking the end of the Satsuma Rebellion.( Can't find Tom Cruise model in Steam workshop :P )

The place where Saigo Takamori died
Birthplace of Mr.Saigo Takamori : Hero of Kagoshima!
I came to the birth place of Mr.Saigo Takamori.
This is just the place where the hero was born and he changed the history of Kagoshima Prefecture and whole Japan!
Saigo Takamori was not born in a high-class aristocracy but in a low-class Samurai family. The feudal lord Shimazu Nariakira of that time discovered Saigo's extraordinary talent and employed him as his key servant. This was the beginning of Saigo's political life.
Nariakira Shimazu is famous as an inventer of Japanese national flag Hinomaru.
His birthplace is only a stone throw from Kagoshima Chuo Station. It takes only 15 minutes by foot. The Kotsuki River flows near the birthplace.

Shogun 2 TW - Saigo's last stand Prologue!
This is a prologue to my next TW Machinima! Saigo Takamori, The True Last Samurai. Unfortunately the progres is slow so I desiced to make a little preview. :) A sort of a prologue to the actual battle.
I have used many mods and a custom map for the video. The commentary voice is from the game but i have added some nice little effects there.
Most of the uniforms are from Noif's Modern army mod:
Feel free to ask any questions about the video! If you liked the map, I may share it too...
Welcome to Kagoshima! Mr. SAIGO Statue looks cute with a bird on his head
Many people like Mr.Saigo very much.
He is the hero of Kagoshima and Japan.
When I took the video of the statue, a bird was taking rest on his head.
(His origin)
He was born in Kagoshima City.
When he was young, he made plan to improve the agricultural situation of Kagoshima.
Because this plan was so nice that he was appointed to the important position of Kagoshima government.
(Important accomplishment)
He played an important role in Meiji Restoration.
He succeeded in making Satsuma and Choshu alliance, which eventually defeated Shogun Dynasty.
While many other politicians went abroad to study western countries, he took a complete control of the new government.
(Death)
After Meiji Restoration, Samurai system was abolished.
Samurai could no longer bring swords and they were not satisfied with the new government.
Some of Samurai planed rebellion to change the government.
Mr. Saigo suggested that Japan should attack Korea in order to soothe the compliments.
But his suggestion was denied, and he returned to Kagoshima.
Ex-Samurai worriers in Kagoshima started rebellion.
At first, Mr.Saigo was opposed to this rebellion, but later he agreed to become their leader.
The Seinan Civil War started.
This is the last civil war in Japan.
He committed suicide during the battle in Shiroyama, Kagoshima City.

Shiroyama – The Satsuma Rebellion – Sabaton History 007 [Official]
What will you do when your traditional way of life is threatened by a powerful force in your native lands? The samurai didn't hesitate to answer this question with: our swords. During the Satsuma Rebellion, the samurai and its leader Saigō Takamori fought the Japanese Imperial Government. Their rebellion ended with the Battle of Shiroyama, where in 1877 the samurai prepared for a last stand.
The letter demanding Saigo's surrender: As the leader of young vigorous men of the nation and resisting a great and famous army through many fierce battles, your fame is already well enough know to the world. But now most of your brave generals are dead or injured, and your military power is daily growing weaker. It is already clear that as last your Satsuma army is unable to keep its spirit. I don’t know what further things you can hope to achieve, except a hopeless defensive battle. If you, Saigõ, rather than lengthening the rest of your days a little, prefer to cause hundreds and thousands of dead and wounded from both armies, there is nothing that I, Aritomo, can say to you. I beg you to judge for yourself as you hold matters in the palm of your hand, and that you will save both armies from death and injury. Ah, you are a man famous and known in the world. About our national constitution naturally it is not only Aritomo who knows what you really think. But the matter has been settled over many years of public debate. I, Aritomo, earnestly beg you as your old friend. Writing this my tears fall like rain, and I cannot express myself at all. Please sympathise with the sincerity of my pain.

Bakumatsu
Bakumatsu refers to the final years of the Edo period when the Tokugawa shogunate ended. Between 1853 and 1867 Japan ended its isolationist foreign policy known as sakoku and changed from a feudal Tokugawa shogunate to the Meiji government. The major ideological-political divide during this period was between the pro-imperial nationalists called ishin shishi and the shogunate forces, which included the elite shinsengumi swordsmen.
Although these two groups were the most visible powers, many other factions attempted to use the chaos of Bakumatsu to seize personal power. Furthermore, there were two other main driving forces for dissent: first, growing resentment on the part of the tozama daimyo, and second, growing anti-western sentiment following the arrival of Matthew C. Perry. The first related to those lords who had fought against Tokugawa forces at the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 and had from that point on been excluded permanently from all powerful positions within the shogunate. The second was to be expressed in the phrase sonnō jōi, or revere the Emperor, expel the barbarians. The turning point of the Bakumatsu was during the Boshin War and the Battle of Toba-Fushimi when pro-shogunate forces were defeated.

Messed Up Things You Didn't Know About The Samurai
The samurai! As one of the most legendary warrior classes in history, samurai are a staple of pop culture and high culture alike. Because of their popularity, we know a lot about the samurai, but some of the more obscure things are pretty dark. Here are messed up facts about the samurai.
History explains that seppuku is a ritualistic suicide method where a samurai slices his stomach open with a small sword. Ever since it emerged in the 12th century as an honorable method for losing samurai to die on the battlefield, Japan has wrought all sorts of abdominal-slicing doom upon its elite warrior class. According to ThoughtCo, there were two basic ways of doing the deed. The more awful variation had the performer cut his abdomen open with a vertical and a horizontal cut, then wait for death in excruciating pain. However, most opted for the softer variant, where a helper decapitated them immediately after the first cut.
Outside the battlefield, seppuku was an elaborate process, where the participants made a day out of it with rituals such as the writing of a death poem and having a good drink of sake before grabbing the blade. Usually, there were even spectators present. Samurai warriors could perform seppuku as a political protest, or to show their overwhelming grief over the death of a beloved leader. It was also a form of death sentence: Shoguns and daimyos could command their underlings to perform seppuku for real or perceived slights, at which point the person had to follow through, or else he'd bring shame to himself and his entire family.
