Lake Agnes to Plain of Six Glaciers Hiking Loop (Lake Louise, ALberta, Canada)
A look at a huge hike for us beginners. We started in the village of Lake Louise, went up the Lake Agnes trail at about 7am. The first stop was Little Beehive for spectacular views ! Even got a Cloud Carpet view over the valley!
From Little Beehive we went down to Lake Agnes and saw the Tea House. Then it was across the Highline Trail to the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House. There we got to rest our legs before the last ascent to the view point over Victoria Glacier. Finally heading down along the Plain of Six Glaciers trail back down to Lake Louise to finish up this hike.
The Route we took was 25kms with total elevation gain of 850m. It took us 9 hours, that is with stop for lunch and tons of photo taking!! We Went in mid-September and the weather was perfect for hiking!

PLAIN OF SIX GLACIERS TEA HOUSE
The less-travelled to of the Tea Houses, the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House Trail offers stunning views of the glaciers and mountains that surround Lake Louise.
The Tea House was built in 1924 by Swiss guides employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Constructed to house mountaineers en route to Mount Victoria and Mount Lefroy, today the Tea House offers refreshments and food to hikers. Like the Lake Agnes Tea House, it has no electricity or running water. Supplies are flown in by helicopter at the start of the season, and additional goods are packed in by horses or staff.
The hike to the Tea House is moderately challenging, and can be accomplished by people of average fitness.
unquestionably ... one of the most gorgeous hikes in the world, culminating in the oasis of a Tibetan-style tea house.
– Bill Thompson, The Post and Courier, August 2015
Trail information
The Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House hike is 5.3 kilometres (3.4 miles) one way, with a 370 metre (1,215 feet) elevation gain. It takes most people around 4 to 6 hours for the round trip. It’s well worth making a short side trip from the Tea House to the Abbot Pass viewpoint, to take a look down into crevasses on the Lower Victoria Glacier.

Vraiment impressionnant.

Hiking Plain of Six Glaciers behind Lake Louise
We started our hike at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and walked along the Lake Louise Lakeshore for 2 km. This trail is accessible to hikers of all abilities. At the end of the lake we saw the milky creek that gives the lake its magical colour.
We continued to the Plain of Six Glaciers trail for 5.3 km (365 m elevation gain). This trail offers a collection of impressive peaks and glaciers. We stopped at the Swiss-built tea house for a short break.
We continued towards the Abbot Pass Viewpoint (1.5 km one way, 50 m elevation gain), but had to turn around halfway in order to catch the last shuttle back to our overflow parking. At the end of this trail, you can see the Abbot Hut, the second-highest permanently habitable structure in Canada. The hut was originally built in 1922 by Swiss guides working for the Canadian Alpine Association to shelter clients attempting to climb Mount Victoria and Mount Lefroy. The hut was designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1992.
Overall, we hiked 15.6 km in less than 4 hours!

Not many people are aware there is a second tea house in Lake Louise besides the Lake Agnes Teahouse. In the summer months hundreds of people visit the Lake Agnes Tea House but only a fraction of those numbers hike to the Plain of Six Glaciers. The walk to the Plains of Six Glaciers and the Tea House is most definitely something to remember. The Tea House is a bit of a hike and strenuous, however well worth it. The trail to the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House takes you up close to the heart of Mount Lefroy, Mount Victoria and the Victoria Glacier. You can order food and drink in this remote Tea House and really savor the beauty of the mountains. Most hikers end their hike at the Teahouse. If you continue on one more mile the view is even more outstanding. Taking an additional (less than one mile trail) past the tea house along a lateral moraine arrives at the Abbot Pass where the view is also really impressive.
Plain of Six Glaciers to Teahouse Hike, Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Canada
This was one of our must do hikes while we were in Canada and it lived up to our excitement. It is a reasonable hike with great views, good food and tea at the Teahouse and if you continue past the teahouse the views become ever more dramatic.

We spent 10 days in our RV in Banff National Park campgrounds and want to share the experience with you and share travel tips we learned while we were there.
Instagram was considering renaming itself Banffogram a while ago. Why? Because of the crazy flood of pictures of Moraine Lake, Lake Louise, Peyto Lake, Bow Lake….there’s a theme here somewhere.
While “Banffogram” is an outright lie, the truth is that there is a crazy amount of hype surrounding Banff. So….does Banff live up to the hype?
Hang out with us as we provide camping tips on where to stay in the park and how to remain BEAR AWARE. We'll even take you on the Plain of six glaciers hike with us!

ABOUT US:
We’re traveling full time, living on our own terms and showing you the up-close-and-personal details of us figuring it out along the way. Sometimes it’s about navigating big, life-altering decisions. Sometimes it’s about navigating the seemingly lawless free-for-all that is driving in Hanoi. It’s moments of triumph and moments of panic. The good, the bad, the ugly – and most importantly, the real and real funny.
We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.” Just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem. We believe the world’s a more interesting place when people reject convention in favor of what they actually care about. This is us putting that idea to the test – one budget spreadsheet, RV renovation and mountain-peak drone video at a time.
