Carmen Townsend - @ plan b, Moncton, NB
Read Below: This is a clip from the make up show/last tour rehearsal. We love you Carmen!
The last few days here in Cape Breton have been chaotic, amazing, stressful and full of determination. I'm so happy to be a stubborn Cape Bretoner :) On the eve of our first show on our Cross Canada Tour, my drummer injured his hand. The Van was packed and we were Moncton bound to play for a lovely group of people at Plan B Lounge. Our plans were quickly morphed into sheer panic and dispair when we learned that the hand in question was definitely broken.
Whaaaaaaaat? 17 years of performing, including 6 years of slaving away in every bar across this country, practically living in my car to make this debut album, and now this?? I cried. I sat in complete silence for a good 15 minutes then, we hit up every drummer we knew to see if they were willing to brave blisters on their fingers and learn all of my songs in 2 days and THEN head out across Canada....INSANE....but, guess what? We found Steve Wonder Boy Wilton from New Waterford!!! truly amazing.
I wanted to publicly thank everyone for their support and words of encouragement over the last few days. Once again, I was completely flabbergasted by all the people who were willing to drop everything just to make this happen for us. It was a very emotional experience for me. I was aware people liked the music and the vibe we have, but to know that we have the respect and support from so many people ( mostly strangers!!) moved me to tears many times in the last few days. I even teared up at Long and Mcquade when the salesman behind the counter told me how great the record sounded. :p
Many thanks to Shane O'Handley for being stubborn with me and putting in all the endless ours of rehearsals, Steve Wilton for saving our band and being so professional, talented and generous with his time, Trevor Turnbull for letting us live in his basement for our emergency jams over the last few days and Darren Gallop for helping us really see Where there is a will, there most definitely is a way
My sincerest of apologies to Plan B Lounge and This Ain't Hollywood in Hamilton. We'll make up those shows to you someday. You have my word. See you in Ottawa May 31st @ Zaphod Beeblebrox!!

Jerry Leger - live @ plan b - Moncton, NB
Website:
Genres: Folk, Rock Singer Songwriter
Email: jerryleger@hotmail.com
Label: Golden Rocket Records
Traveling Grey is Jerry Leger's fourthalbum and finds him poised to indelibly add his name to the roll call that hasbuilt Toronto's international reputationas a singer/songwriter Mecca. One ofthe members of that elite group, Ron Sexsmith, has said, Jerry Leger is one of the best songwriters I've heard inquite some time, while another, Fred Eaglesmith, has on several occasionsinvited Leger to share stages with him. Whether it has been one of those nightsin front of someone else's large, unsuspecting crowd, or one of hiscountless weekly performances at Castro's Lounge in Toronto's east end—another nod to his heroes who foundtheir audiences through small club residencies—the experience of hearing Jerry Leger is always the same.
It is here that mention must be made of his band, the Situation, whose innate versatility is in line with the various incarnations of Dylan's Never-Ending Tour supporting cast. Yet, no matter who is listening, they are inevitably drawn into Leger's own little world whenever he sings. In many respects, it is a world that is all-too-real, a side of Canada that has slowly been disappearing in the post-industrial age. The characters that populate Traveling Grey provide the testimonial; some havemade bad decisions and are living with the consequences, like the narrator of Isabella, while some have simply neverhad the chance—Looking out the window of the old hardware store / Twenty-five feels a lot like twenty-four. (Truth Is All Around You) When everything is at a standstill, every word, glimpse, and touch is packed with potential to be lifealtering. Leger catches these moments like June bugs, allowing us to briefly observe their gorgeous nuances in the jarbefore they must be set free back into the ether. That's the sense I got from songs like Wrong Kind Of Girl, andespecially Is He Treating You Good, which cuts as deep as any love song I've heard in a long time: Is he there every dinner, there every night? / Waits for your decisions, does nothing for spite. It's the kind of songwriting that was second nature to the artists who defined country music's golden era of the 1950s and early '60s, and one of them, Nova Scotia's Hank Snow, is surely smiling somewhere knowing that Leger has writtena song as bawdy and rollicking as East Coast Queen.
Whenever I write, I' m just dipping into myself or keeping my ears and eyes open, Leger says. I study conversation, pay close attention to detail. Nowhere is that more evident than in Traveling Grey' s centrepiece, John Lewis, aportrait of a despised man, like Tom Dooley before him, but also of a despicable community eager to pass swift and severe judgment. All we know is that a girl has died, a girl known to associate with Mr. Lewis, and someone must pay. It' s another example on Traveling Grey of Leger' s greatest gift of being able to bring us to the point of knowing the outcome of the tale without explicitly revealing anything. Few songwriters possess that skill. Fewer still even had their names written down. Only the songs themselves have survived over the decades and centuries; survived because they contained undeniable truth. Jerry Leger writes thosekinds of songs. And now you know his name. -- Jason Schneider
Invasives - live @ plan b - Moncton, NB
Invasives are a trio from Vancouver BC formed in 2001 and consisting of 2 brothers Byron and Adam Slack (Vocals/Guitar/Bass) and 1 Hans Anus (Drums). The sound these fine young lads create is a stripped down Punk Rock devoid of cliches and Rock & Roll frippery, rebuilt and refurbished in a way that ONLY Invasives can deliver.
With their fourth full length release Desk Job At Castle Dracula (2010) Invasives continue to tighten their grip and explore the depths of their existence (Which by strange coincidence is identical to your existence!)...Except for the fact that they begrudgingly wrote this and you are the one pretending to read it, disregard this one inconvenient detail and YOU TOO can become Existence Twins with Invasives!
With a live performance honed over 250+ shows spanning the globe from Tofino BC to Skopje, Macedonia, Invasives are not a band to be missed!
So be there or live in a swamp and be perpendicular.
PS. Invasives don't sound like the Bay City Rollers and the Knack being molested by Black Flag and Black Sabbath.
Love,
Byron, Adam & Hans

The Stanfields - live @ plan b - Moncton, NB
Meet The Stanfields, a maelstrom of rock 'n' roll, Celtic and bluegrass. Hailing from the gritty post-industrial towns of Nova Scotia, Canada, The Stanfields play every show like it's their collective last night on earth. Their kitchen party harmonies, thunderous rhythm section, high-octane stage show and genuine chemistry have won over audiences from coast to coast.
Since forming in the summer of 2008, The Stanfields wasted no time making their mark on the venerable Atlantic Canadian music scene. Hailed as The Clash meets Steve Earle by Great Big Sea's Sean McCann and The Bastard Children of AC/DC and Stan Rogers by Halifax's Q104 FM, further accolades began rolling in, including a double win for Best New Artist and New Artist/Group Recording at the 2009 Nova Scotia Music Awards. In November 2010 The Stanfields picked up a third Nova Scotia Music Award for Best Alternative Band In November 2010 The Stanfields picked up a third Nova Scotia Music Award for Best Alternative Band before being voted Halifax's Best Band and Band Most Likely to Make it Big by readers of The Coast magazine. The Coast recognized the band again in 2011 for Best Local Video, Best Single, and for the third consecutive year, Best Band to get trashed to.
The Stanfields continued their winning streak with a 2011 East Coast Music Award for Rising Star of the Year along with three other nominations, including Entertainer of the Year. It's no surprise they've been hailed as Halifax's next big musical export with Halifax Magazine recently declaring, These guys are going to be big. The band has been heavily embraced by the local media and their community, earning the #1 spot on Q104′s Top 104 songs of 2010 and securing cover features in local weekly papers The Coast and Here Magazine.

Sean Ashby
Chances are, if you've had a radio on today you've heard his guitar playing. As one of North America's go-to guitarists, Sean Ashby has played and recorded with Sarah McLachlan, Delerium, Ginger (former Grapes Of Wrath),and many more. Ashby, is a singer /songwriter/guitarist/producer who released his debut album Brass and Gold on Black Sparrow/Universal in April of 2008.
Brass and Gold , Sean's first solo outing after 10 years as leader of the award winning band Jack Tripper, was an eclectic record which showcased an impressive musical palette. The album received favorable reviews in important Canadian publications such as Exclaim magazine and the Vancouver Province, and received airplay on college radio and across the country on CBC radio.
McLachlan's guitarist on the original Lilith Fair, as well as the Mirrorball and Afterglow albums , Ashby appeared with her onJust Like You (Cats In The Cradle) for D from Run DMC's solo CD. Also with Sarah, he received two 4 x platinum US discs and one diamond Canadian disc for studio and live CD's. He has appeared on the Grammy Awards twice, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno five times, SNL and David Letterman three times, as well as other major TV shows. Sean's guitar playing has appeared on CD's with sales in excess of 10 million copies worldwide... so far.
When asked about his hopes for his solo future Sean says I am working at building an audience for my music, playing shows and improving as a songwriter and performer. Since Brass and Gold's release in 2008, Sean has been touring relentlessly, performing over 200 shows a year across Canada and the US, and somehow squeezing in two tours with Delirium as well. He's making new fans , and being asked to return everywhere he goes. His current album 24 Hours of Daylight , showcases Sean's guitar skills and earthy vocals on a new set of strong tunes with a rootsy bent. This record also features his amazing technique on lap steel guitar, a highlight of his live shows. The track- Sweet Tuesday has been featured nationally on CBC radio. Sean is keeping up a heavy touring schedule again this year, visiting most of Canada and the US in 2011.
