info:
Planica Slovenia
From Wiki:
Planica is an alpine valley in northwestern Slovenia, extending south from the border town Rateče, not far from another well-known ski resort, Kranjska Gora. Further south, the valley is extended into Tamar, a popular hiking destination in the Triglav National Park.
Planica is famous for ski jumping. The first ski jumping hill was constructed before 1930 at the slope of the Ponca mountain. In 1934, Stanko Bloudek constructed a larger hill, known as the Bloudek Giant. The first ski jump over 100 metres was achieved here in 1936 by the Austrian Sepp Bradl. This was, at the time, the biggest jumping hill in the world, sometimes called the mother of all jumping hills.
In 1969, a new K-185 hill, Letalnica Bratov Gorišek, was constructed by Lado and Janez Gorišek. Since 1985, when Matti Nykänen flew 191 metres, new world records have always been set at Planica rather than any other ski jumping hill (e.g. Kulm in Austria, Harrachov in Czech Republic, Oberstdorf in Germany or Vikersundbakken in Norway).
In 1994, Toni Nieminen of Finland was the first ski jumper in history to jump over 200 metres. The current world record stands at 239 metres, set by Bjørn Einar Romøren of Norway in 2005.
The ski jumping infrastructure is fairly outdated at the moment (ski jumpers must walk uphill for most of their way to the top of a hill). In 2001, the Bloudek's old K-130 hill collapsed and has not been reconstructed yet due to endless bureaucratic troubles. Regardless, the International Ski Federation still allows competitions at the K-185 hill, and many are hopeful that Planica will mature into a modern winter sports centre. In August 2008, the Slovenian government accepted a plan to renovate Planica into a modern winter sports centre until 2013 (with the centre to be able to host the 2009 championships).
Song Translation:
Planica, Planica
Snow Queen!
Who is not aware of
- The beauty of the snow?
Jumpers as birds
fly to the sky
and glory Planica
in the wide world disproportionate
Welcome fearless hero distance,
Friends of steep snow plains!
Glory, honor is
all jumpers in the world!
The heroes get there?
fly like birds,
again the glory goes to the world
for a long number of years!
Planica, Planica,
yet we come back,
in Planica, Planica,
Ponce on in winter paradise!

Zelenci - Rateče / Planica / Slovenia
Zelenci: talni izvir Save Dolinke.

Postojna Cave, Slovenia
The Postojna Cave system is a network of caves over 24km in length cut into the karst rock by the Pikva river. It has been a tourist attraction since 1819 when the Austrian emperor Francis I visited. There has been a railway to visit the caves since the nineteenth century. It is the second longest cave system in Slovenia and I believe the longest cave tourist trail in the world.
In the cave system we can also find olms (also known as proteus (Proteus anguinus)), a fully aquatic salamander. Unlike most amphibians, the olm spends all of its life underwater. Ift is found in the karst cave systems in the Dinaric Alps in what was western Yugoslavia. It was first mentioned in 1689 by the local naturalist Valvasor in his Glory of the Duchy of Carniola, who reported that, after heavy rains, the olms were washed up from the underground waters and were believed by local people to be a cave dragon's offspring. This animal has adapted to living in complete darkness. It is blind but has very good senses of smell and hearing.

IZLET na Gorenjsko. Jezero Jasna in Planica / Excursion to Lake Jasna and PLanica
Mi 4je, Blu, Stella, Maša in jaz Grega smo odšli v svet.

Kranjska Gora Valley View | TUI Lakes & Mountains
What an amazing view at the top of Slemenova Špica and well earned reward for reaching the top. The first valley is the Pišnica Valley that leads back down to Kranjska Gora. The 2nd is the Planica Valley that leads to Rateče and hosts winter ski jump competitions.
