Diving at Apo Island
Highlights of my dives around Apo Island, Dumaguete from Sep 1 to 3, 2014. Thus far, the best dive site I have visited in the Philippines. Balicasag would come in second. Anilao (although quite convenient for those coming from Metro Manila) would be third. I have gone scuba diving in El Nido but it was plankton season according to the locals (Jan to Feb), which results in poor visibility underwater. Hence, I reserve my judgement on El Nido until I have returned under better diving conditions. Next on my target list of dive sites are Puerto Galera, Verde Island, Apo Reef (Occidental Mindoro), Coron, Siargao and Tubataha Reef.
Apo Island's eco-tourism industry is an excellent success story that can be emulated by many coastal communities in the Philippines. In spite of the catastrophic damage to the marine sanctuary of the island brought about by the super typhoons over the past few years, it's coral reefs around the other parts of the island are still in great shape--better than those I have encountered in Anilao and comparable, if not better, than those in Balicasag. In addition to the marine sanctuary, the local community appears to have a genuine appreciation for the marine life--allowing them to grow to impressive sizes for conservation, eco-tourism and, ultimately, additional livelihood. In Apo Island, I am reminded of the unspoiled coral reef of Casabangan Bay, Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro. That was over 30 years ago. I also see its future, if the town's Sangguniang Bayan quits dribbling and delaying the passage of the ordinance of the proposed marine protected area at Casabangan Bay. Inexcusable, unacceptable and an extraordinary waste of government in so far as government is already a waste in most every respect. A bunch of self-important over-entitled morons who expect extra-ordinary reward and recognition for ordinary day-to-day tasks they conduct at the pace of a sea slug.

Who says science is all work and no play? Here in the University of San Carlos Marine Station, nothing ever feels like work as long as these nerds are there with me.
It's too bad I couldn't get a proper video of the bioluminescent ones we caught- but I'll find them again someday and will have a better camera at the ready.

Yup, you read that right. I bet you didn’t know you could rent an entire island in the Philippines through Airbnb without breaking the bank.
And yes we’ve all had that dream of living on a private island away from everyone else. So why rent a fancy room on a 5-star island resort if you and your friends can own an entire island for the same price.
Luckily you can do just that with Floral Island, a Tropical paradise in Palawan surrounded by crystal clear waters and a coral reef unlike any other.

SWIMMING WITH WHALE SHARKS // OSLOB, PHILIPPINES
Swimming with the whale sharks of Oslob is one of the most amazing experiences the Philippines has to offer, and one of the best overall experiences I had while creating this Philippines travel video series.
The small fishing village of Oslob has developed a relationship with a group of 40K lb whale sharks by regularly feeding them their natural food- plankton. They invite tourists to snorkle and swim alongside the massive whale sharks during the gathering.
As I mention in the video, there is some controversy surrounding the whale shark encounter. Just for the sake of staying informed, here is an article that outlines the reasons the practice might not be the best idea.
Personally, I did not witness any physical interactions or injuries to the whale sharks during my time in the water.

PHILIPPINES BEST KEPT SECRET | PORT BARTON // TRAVEL VLOG 24
Port Barton Philippines was an absolute gem and is quite possibly one of the Philippines best kept secrets! It is a small tourist town between Puerto Princesa and El Nido. We had received a few recommendations that we should stop by and do some island hopping and snorkeling and it was one of our best days of travel yet!
We stayed at Miguels AirBnB (next door to Jambalaya restaurant). It was 500 Pesos/night for a private room with a private bathroom.
Next door at Jambalaya they have pretty good food, try the Mango shake, and garlic rice was delicious with the set breakfast. In town, there is a burger joint that makes a MASSIVE burger... try to eat it all if you can (although I didn't think the burgers were that great overall).

MUST SEE: CORON ISLAND HOPPING 2019 | Super Ultimate & Island Escapade Tour | Philippines Vlog Ep04
Hey, I'm Michael!
Coron, Palawan, is a dream. There's nothing else I can say. Simply watch my moods & impressions I shot while participating in these tours:
CORON ISLAND ULTIMATE TOUR:
1. Twin Lagoon
2. Smith Coral Garden
3. Atwayan Beach
4. Luluyan Lake / Barracuda Lake
5. Kayangan Lake
6. Siete Pecados
ISLAND ESCAPADE TOUR:
1. Bulog Dos
2. Banana Island
3. Malcapuya Tour
I highly recommend these tours.
Well, it took a while to finish this vlog. It's not only my longest video so far. I'm also proud that the video editing & color grading was done entirely on my iPhone Xs Max with the LumaFusion app.
It's amazing that I used 10bit Lumix GH5 footage, partly 4K, without any lagging or choppy playback while editing.
I wish Premiere Pro could be as intuitive as Lumafusion.
Enjoy watching!
