Το Κάστρο του Πλαταμώνα είναι ένα από τα ωραιότερα και καλύτερα διατηρημένα κάστρα της Ελλάδας. Βρίσκεται σ’ ένα λόφο πάνω από τη θάλασσα νοτιοανατολικά του Ολύμπου, στρατηγική θέση από την αρχαιότητα από την οποία ελέγχεται ο συντομότερος δρόμος που συνδέει τη Μακεδονία με τη Θεσσαλία.
Το Κάστρο είναι χτισμένο στη θέση της αρχαίας Ηράκλειας (ή Ηράκλειο). Κτίστηκε από Λομβαρδούς Σταυροφόρους το 1204. Μετά την κατάληψή του από τους Βυζαντινούς, τον 14ο αιώνα το κατέλαβαν οι Τούρκοι και το 1770 καταλήφθηκε για μικρό χρονικό διάστημα από τους Έλληνες.

The Platamon Castle is one of the finest and well preserved castles in Greece. It's located n a hill above the sea southeast of Mount Olympus,strategic location since ancient times which controls the exit of the Tempe valley, through which passes the main road connecting Macedonia with Thessaly and southern Greece.
The Castle is build in the position of the ancient Greek city Heraclea (or Herakleion). It was built by Lombards Crusaders in 1204. After its capture from the Byzantines, in the 14th century it was occupied by the Turks and in 1770 it was occupied briefly by the Greeks.
