Platte River Flooding near I-80
Robert Pore, Ag reporter, reports on the flooding around I-80 and local streams.
Planning for Possible Flooding in Nebraska
With Colorado's major flooding comes many questions. Especially for Colorado's neighboring state, Nebraska. Many Grand Island businesses that are on the banks of the Platte River have an idea of what they would do in a flood emergency.
Car Camera - I-80 - Grand Island/Hastings to Shelton, NE Interchanges . 2018 ( 州間高速道路80号線 )
On a very Nebraska windy day - a day that it was hard to keep any vehicle straight on the road ;o ... we continue our journey west on Interstate 80 here in Nebraska, U.S.A. - from the Grand Island/Hastings to Shelton interchanges. Yes, it's been a while since any new Car Camera video was recorded ;p .
As we travel along the Platte River - here in the Platte River valley (the valley beginning just before the Grand Island interchange), we can see the beginning stages and growth of thunderheads overhead. On this day, a moderate risk of severe weather was in place for much of the area. It is interesting to see how much the clouds overhead develop - from the beginning, to the end of this video ;o ~
...and also, unlike times past where the heavier traffic used to clear out at the York interchange when heading west... it now seems like the traffic continues to the Grand Island interchange - and even past ;o . How times do change ^_~ ~
Anyways, please enjoy the greens of late spring and thanks for watching ^^ !!!~

The Great Platte River Road Archway - Across I 80
When heading across Interstate 80 through Nebraska you will surely see the Great Platte Road Archway! If you do not already know, this is actually a museum. A great one at that. When you see it, you surely can not miss it as you approach as it is quite unique. You then can get off at the next exit and double back as this is a quick stop you do not want to miss.

FREMONT, NEBRASKA FLOOD - March 15, 2019
These videos show the devastating flooding in Fremont, Nebraska, which is about 25 miles northwest of Omaha.
PLEASE NOTE: I live in Fremont and filmed only the areas of our city that have been affected by the flooding. Those areas include:
* The south side of Fremont, just south of the historic downtown area and south of the viaduct, where there are Fremont businesses and neighborhoods whose residents and families have been devastated by the flood waters. This includes Broad Street/Highway 77, going south toward the Platte River.
* Also south of Fremont, closer to Bell Street/Old Highway 275, I filmed the property where Costco has been building their new chicken processing plant.
* The east side of Fremont, going toward Arlington and Blair. This includes 23rd Street/Highway 30 and crossing Highway 275, also referred to as the Bypass. You can see how devastating the flood waters are for those homes, families, farms, and fields.
Fremont is being referred to as an island because there are no passable roads in and out of town right now. It has been amazing to see our community come together to help each other. Hundreds of volunteers, together with the Dodge County Sheriff's office, City officials, the Fremont Police and Fire departments, the National Guard, and state officials, have worked tirelessly to keep us safe and work on recovery efforts—not just for Fremont, but for all the other communities affected in eastern Nebraska.
There are five shelters open, including schools and churches, housing hundreds of people who have been displaced by this disaster. Volunteers have worked around the clock for the past several days, watching water levels, filling sandbags, organizing volunteers and donations, coordinating helicopter and small plane transportation for people and supplies getting in and out of Fremont. People have opened their homes and wallets to help each other. It's been truly inspiring. I'm proud to be part of this great community.

Sandhill Cranes Migration-Thousands flying in at Sunset to roost on Platte River
The annual Sandhill Crane Migration through Nebraska will see about 500,000 Cranes stop over on the Platte River in Nebraska for about 3 weeks to feed in the cornfields during the day and roost in the shallow waters of the Platte River at night.
This video is of several thousand Sandhill Cranes flying in at about sunset from feeding the nearby cornfields to roost on the Platte River for the night.
The unusual and hard to describe warbling - bugling noise you can hear in the video gets VERY loud as more and more of the cranes fly in to take up their spots in the shallow protective waters of the Platte River near Grand Island, NE.
An average Sandhill Crane has a wingspan of 5-6 feet, stands about 4.5 feet tall, and weighs about 12 pounds. The Cranes usually mate for life when they are between 3 and 6 years old after a lengthy courtship that includes some very elaborate and unusual dances.
Video was taken from a high blind overlooking the river when the wind was blowing 25-30 MPH - which you can sometimes hear. NebraskaTravels.com
