Plaza Del Salcedo. Vigan City, Iloco Sur. Philippines. + Aerial View
Here's Plaza Del Salcedo in Vigan City, Iloco Sur, Philippines. Lots of history here with the old Spanish buildings and cobblestone streets.
Vigan is a city in the Philippines, on the west coast of Luzon island. It's known for its preserved Spanish colonial and Asian architecture. Calle Crisologo dominates the Mestizo district, with its cobblestone streets, malecón, horse-drawn carriages and rustic mansions. Near the white baroque Vigan Cathedral are Plaza Salcedo, offering fountain light shows, and Plaza Burgos, known for its street-food stalls.

DANCING FOUNTAIN AT PLAZA SALCEDO, VIGAN, PHILIPPINES
Vigan's one of the many tourist attractions that you shouldn't miss if you're going to visit Vigan Ilocos Sur

PLAZA SALCEDO DANCING FOUNTAIN SHOW - VIGAN ILOCOS SUR
Plaza Salcedo Dancing Fountain Show - Vigan Ilocos Sur
The Dancing Fountain located at Vigan Plaza of Vigan, Ilocos Sur as added to the influx of tourists in Vigan which was formerly just a city passed by on the way to other destinations. Now tourists opt to stay overnight so they could see this spectacle during weekends.
I have put my own music to the video courtesy of Epidemic Sound.
Right in front of the Saint Paul Cathedral is the Plaza Salcedo, named after the Spanish conqueror, Juan de Salcedo who subdued the early native settlement in Vigan and established upon it Villa Fernandina for the monarchs of Spain in 1572. With this, Juan de Salcedo founded the third of many Hispanic settlements in the Philippines.
To honor this Spanish conquistador, a monument was erected in the city square, surrounded by all the important edifices of the town. From Plaza Salcedo, one can see and walk leisurely to not only the Saint Paul Cathedral but the Arzobispado or Archbishop’s Palace, the Vigan City Hall and the Ilocos Sur Capitol as well. All were seats of power over life and death in the olden times, and now places of tourist interest, too. In Salcedo Plaza, visitors will find the Salcedo Obelisk which was placed in the elevated plaza during the 17th century as the plaza’s centerpiece. It is literally the focal point of the city’s Spanish urban design.
Salcedo Plaza is best visited early morning or late afternoon to avoid the hot sun at its strongest and to fully enjoy the quieter atmosphere of this elliptical plaza with its cooling fountain display. The plaza’s lagoon was added in the seventies to store water. The city saw this as a creative solution to the need for water during times when fire occurs in the city. Vigan has suffered destructive fires many times in its history.
It is also important to note that Plaza Salcedo was the site of the execution of Gabriela Silang in September of 1763. The first woman leader of the Philippine revolution was publicly hanged there to serve as a warning to the restive populace.

One attraction that should make its cut to your Vigan travel list is this safari adventure resort that’s just 10 minutes away from Calle Crisologo.
This hundred-hectare zoological park and resort complex is owned by the former Ilocos governor Luis “Chavit” Singson.
There is no entrance fee to wander at this amazing animal sanctuary. You can even have a family picnic on the green landscape or dine at Baluarte’s in-house cafeteria.

Every seven in the evening, locals and tourists staying in Vigan quickly make their way to the most popular park in the city to visit a lights-and-sound spectacle you would not want to miss– the Dancing Fountain right at the center of Plaza Salcedo in Vigan!
Named after the Spanish conquistador Juan de Salcedo, Plaza Salcedo is both the city’s central attraction as well as its town center.
One of the most significant events to happen at Plaza Salcedo was the execution of Gabriela Silang by public hanging in September 1973. Gabriela Silang was the first woman leader of the Philippine revolution to fight against Spain.
Moreover, at the middle of the park is the 17th-century monument of Juan de Salcedo, the oldest of its kind in Northern Luzon.
The dancing fountains start at 7 every night, taking place every 30 minutes. On weekends, a second show is held at 8:30 pm.
Photographers also love Plaza Salcedo as it makes a great foreground for when they take photos of the Vigan Cathedral, originally called the Saint Paul Metropolitan Cathedral, originally built in 1574 as a chapel, which was then replaced as a church in 1641 and was rebuilt in the 1800s.
The Vigan Cathedral is a part of the city’s stamp as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Cᴀʟʟᴇ Cʀɪsᴏʟᴏɢᴏ-
Famous for its array of old stone houses built centuries ago and the cobblestone streets where numerous calesas stride across the street, visiting this old town will bring you back to the Filipino-Spanish colonial era.
Named after the prominent Ilocano poet, writer, playwright and politician Marcelino “Mena” Crisologo, this historical street is where you’ll find abundant ancestral homes of Ilocano descendants still standing strong up to this date.
These Spanish-style houses are a perfect representation of the simple yet elegant living of the Filipino-Spanish families back in the day.
A way to enjoy a tour along Calle Crisologo is through walking or riding the traditional “calesas” or horse-drawn carriages. These calesas are used as a mode of transportation back in the 18th century.
Now, tourists can rent a calesa and relish in historical sightseeing around the area.
The best time to tour Calle Crisologo is early morning when restaurants and souvenir shops start to open, and during nighttime when the street is lit with tungsten lamps that give off an 18th century vibe.

Plaza Salcedo Vigan ( Dancing fountain)
The beautiful and famous Dancing fountain in Vigan
Calle Crisologo Vigan Ilocos Sur | #DancingFountain Plaza Salcedo Philippines #TravelDiary 8
At sundown I come back to #CalleCrisologo to experience how the street comes alive at night. The feel on this street at night is very European and the warm weather allows the outside dining by restaurants located on the street. I noticed that there are more foot traffic at night, lots of people taking photos, selfies. The restaurants have plenty of patrons, souvenir shops making a roaring trade selling well priced nik naks.
After having a Vigan #empanada and #Longsilog (Vigan Longganisa ,Rice, Egg) for dinner i made sure i had enough time to walk to Plaza Salcedo and view the famous Dancing Fountain that started at 730pm. The show lasted more than 1/2 an hour, I did not stay til the end because I have an early start the next day.
I hope you enjoyed this video.
On the next video I travel to Baguio City and the bus was scheduled to leave at 3am.
